T-Will Gets Second Triple-Double

Terrence Williams is proving he's too good for the D-League.

For the second straight game, T-Will finished with a triple-double as the Springfield Armor lost to the Fort Wayne Red Ants in overtime, 130-124.   While his first T-D was heavy on assists and rebounds, his second was dominated by scoring.  He finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.  He shot 12-22, including 4-5 from three.  In two games, Williams is averaging 24 points, 12.5 rebounds and 12.5 assists.

Craig Brackins, the 6'10" foward dispatched to  Springfield by the 76ers, finished with 15 and 12 while Scottie Reynolds, one of the league's leading scorers, had only seven for the Armor. The Mad Ants' two guards combined for 59 points. Walker Russell, their point guard, went for 31 points and 13 assists. Roderick Wilmont, the Mad Ants' shooting guard, finished with 28. Tom Barrise, the Nets' assistant coach, was in Springfield.

The Armor play again Sunday at 5 p.m. vs. the Maine Red Claws in Portland.

bring him back soon plz.

lesson learned. for the nets at least. and that lesson is t-will can play. if he produces even 1/3 of these numbers in the nba it would be more than what we’re getting from our wing players most the time.

Cmon guys! Twill sucks. He should be traded. He was late to some practices.

Those who wanted Twill traded, i hope you undertstand how talented this guy is. He has major ability and once we realize he is a good player, maybe well be smart to enough to start making this team talented again.

LeBron came in the league talented. The NBA and Its polatics made him a star. You can take 80% of the players with the backing of the team, they can be stars. If we market Twill a groom him, he can be a D’Wade.

Championship team

Wade found his place on a team lead by Shaq. Twill has been restricted by the team. Sure the team thinks their helping him out but it obviously not. I believe Twill think himself an all-star, the Nets veiw him as a good part of the team. One of The worst thing anyone can
do is restrict another. I could be wrong but it goes hand and hand with the banishment.

Puheleeese

You can’t be serious by mentioning Lebron James, Dwane Wade and Terrence Williams in the same sentence, can you? T-Will’s problem is T-Will himself. If he had work ethic of that two players mentioned he’d be very very solid player in the NBA. But because he doesn’t, he dominates D-League.

by Belarus4life on Dec 5, 2010 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

I say the same to you

I see the same talent level in Twill, that Wade has. The only difference is that they get to shoot as much and when they want.
I’m not the only person who thought Twill would be a star by now. We hoped/expected so much from him. What happened? Is he not good. Tell me something that is just not the normal response. True objective comment. If you can answer the 2 ? I’d go with your veiw.

by Zartan on Dec 5, 2010 11:31 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

For every 1 good shooting game T-Will has, wade has like 10.

T-Will cant shoot to save his life, he lucks up on occasion but he would not be Wade and he doesnt have the physical dominance or passing ability to be Lebron. To say T-Will has the same talent level as D Wade is ridiculous, thats like spitting in D Wade’s face. Let’s not get carried away by 2 games in D-League. When T-Will can get those numbers in the NBA and without turning the ball over 8 times then I’ll be impressed. Right now he’s just a run of the mill 2nd stringer. Does he have potential to be a fringe starter? Yes. Will he be a Superstar? No. That’s my opinion

by TheMann2 on Dec 5, 2010 1:01 PM EST up reply actions

I'm right here...

I am a fan of T-Will. I am NOT, however, a fan of his immaturity along with his tardiness. Punishment should come with being late to practice. Just because you’re in the NBA you should get a bye? Not so much.

This is common rule from when you step into the classroom for the first time to when your heading into work 22 years later. If you’re late, you suffer the consequences. It is complete and utter BS to not be able to show up on time when you’re making over 2 million to do so.

I can’t support that, nor will I ever. I could give a s*** less if he’s dropping triple doubles in the D- League, because I already know he’s capable of producing in the NBA RIGHT NOW. Keep him down there for a few more games, and then bring him back on up after this soaks in some more.

Anyway wanted to make this point earlier

I know we like Outlaw’s shooting in the starting lineup. I know Devin and T Will doesn’t make the best shooting little men. However they wouldn’t play together all the time. It does give you two guys at can blow past someone and make plays.

Devin’s shooting has improved. When Outlaw’s shots aren’t falling he doesn’t give much else.Twill can pass rebound and probably defend better. Having said all this, this may be worth trying however T Will wasn’t scoring in the manner he should be.

People need to kick his butt into working on this. He need to be using his first step. Getting to the rim and the free throw line. Just like Brook don’t take it up soft with some fancy layup or ill timed floater. Go for the dunk. Just some of my thoughts.

T Will is obviously very talented we saw that at the end of last season. I mean he had a triple double in his rookiee year which is really hard to do. This team definitely needs talent so we need him back here ASAP but his hand needs to be on straight.

Rod Benson once had 28 rebounds in a D-League game

Morris Almond once had 54 points. Julius Hodge nearly averaged a triple double in the D-League three years ago…24, 8 and 6. The D-League isn’t even as good as the Russian league. It’s about on par with the NBL in Australia.

by Net Income on Dec 4, 2010 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

What's your point?

And no, 24 8 and 6 is not close to averaging a triple double.

by Iron_Fist on Dec 4, 2010 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

I mean really, when did Julius Hodge even post those numbers? 2003?

What pick was he even taken with?

The DLeague has grown a lot since it’s inception. It certainly isn’t on par with the NBL. Every scout on the planet will tell you that the DLeague is behind only the NBA and the Euroleague in terms of talent.

by Iron_Fist on Dec 4, 2010 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

One more thing. Isn't the very first line of this article: "Terrence Williams is proving he's too good for the DLeague?"

Can’t have it both ways. Either he’s doing just what the first line says he’s doing, or he’s on par with guys like Julius Hodge…

by Iron_Fist on Dec 4, 2010 10:59 PM EST up reply actions

He's not saying that Williams is on par with Julius Hodge

he’s saying that Terrence putting to TD’s in the D League means nothing

When he starts playing to the level of march/april this year, when he was doing this stuff in real games, everything will be fine.

Terrence's statline is irrelevant

This is about gauging his leadership skills, his maturity. Is he making the right pass at the right time or going for the flashy, risky play instead? Is he playing within Dee Brown’s system or going rouge ala Sarah Palin? He’s clearly the most talented player on the floor and has substantive NBA experience, so is he leading and helping his teammates along to a win or just looking out for his statline? That’s really what this is all about on the court, and then there’s the obvious off the court stuff.

I understand he has been an idiot lately and be settling for jumpers rather than dunking on people but I am excited to have him back on our team. He can play 3 different positions. He rebound great. He passes great. His dribbling is ok and he dribbles into defenders and gets no where sometimes but thats where his vision comes in. Please bring him back and leave Graham and Uzoh on the bench forever. Its unreal to look at youtube videos of Uzoh dunking on people yet he cannot even get an open look when he drives? Leave him in Springfield for another 2-3 games. I know there have been, and will be some games coming up where we could reallly use his talent, but let’s try to focus on the long term health of his NBA career, and his long term value to our team. This is the third WIlliams during my time as a fan, that we have had behavioral issues with. Let’s not blow it with TWILL. I trust Avery’s judgement, over that of a 22 year old, any 22 year old.

we don't know everything

that has gone on behind the scenes to warrant this. The Nets have tried to keep the problems with Williams, either it be lateness or insubordination, in house for his own good and for the team’s sake.

And constantly being late for a job that is paying you 2.2 million dollars this season and 2.3 million next season is insubordinate behavior and it’s a sign that he’s not taking things seriously. We all have to show up for work on time otherwise we’re fired. What makes Terrence so special? All of the other Nets seem to have no problem following instructions and getting to work on time. Williams deserves another chance to prove himself to his teammates, the organization, and the fans, but he doesn’t deserve pity because he got shipped down to the D League. Boo hoo.

He needs to apologize to his teammates. His behavior has hurt them more than anything else.

I'm glad you mentioned the word "insubordination"

Because David Aldridge recently reported that he’s been told Nets management doesn’t view Williams as insubordinate. And he’s also been told King doesn’t think Williams’ actions are that bad at all.

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/david_aldridge/11/29/morning-tip-dwight-howard/

But management, I am told, does not view Williams as insubordinate. Team president Billy King has a history, shall we say, with players who are habitually late to practice — he fined Allen Iverson more than $100,000 one year when AI never made more than a handful of Larry Brown workouts — and I’m told that King does not think Williams’ actions are nearly as bad or damaging.

by Andres B on Dec 5, 2010 8:03 AM EST up reply actions

The Nets actually want this kid to succeed

of course they aren’t going to kill him in the media. This isn’t last year where you had buffoons leaking bogus stories about Williams and CDR driving Del Harris away from the team when it was really behind the scenes garbage going on between Thorn and Kiki.

His actions haven’t been criminal, they’ve been immature. You can try to paint things as many ways as you want to, but Williams was not playing to the fullest of his capabilities and showing up late all of the time says to me that he wasn’t taking his job seriously.

And you know I’m one of this kid’s supporters on here, but I’m not going to lie or make excuses for him when he’s being dumb. It should have never come to this.

I don't understand how this valid critique

is a form of hating.

Williams gets injured trying to dunk on Brook in practice, yet in games, he avoids contact and doesn’t attack the rim hard, opting to throw up floaters instead. He wants to show the world that he can dunk in practice, to the point where Joe Smith had to put him in his place, but in games you never see him ever attack the basket with malicious intent. This pisses me off. Why are you so eager to dunk on your own teammates to the point where you get injured, but in games you want to play timid and show everyone that you can shoot threes?

I like T-Will as much as anyone on here(save Aunt-B, of course) but lets be real here. Lopez is getting killed on here for playing soft, Williams did not do anything to exempt him from being criticized. I think that his play so far has been soft, and added with being a fool who doesn’t appreciate the opportunity given to him, he deserved to be embarrassed. But as we can see, this is a waste of time, and we can use him. But here’s the thing:

He can post as many triple doubles in the d league all he wants. He all of a sudden wants to play aggressive now because he got punished. This doesn’t impress me. Impress me by coming into games with your head on straight, getting into the painted area to create a shot for yourself or your teammates, grab some boards, pass the ball like you have some common sense instead of looking to make a highlight pass all of the time, and make plays defensively. I’ll be impressed then because that means the Terrence from April of 2010 has returned. Until then, I’ll assume that when he comes back he’ll resort to throwing up dainty floaters in the lane like a coward and settling for threes and jump shots instead of putting the ball on the floor and handling business.

Impress me with getting to the line and force the defenses to make a decision.

Harris and Hump are the only two Nets that have been aggressive for pretty much every game. When Williams starts playing as hard as those two guys, in real games, wake me up. None of this is a surprise.

Everyone OVERRATES the Dleague

TWill is a good NBA player, he was sent to the Dleague as a punishment, not because he was struggling and needed playing time. Everyone saw the same thing happen with Thabeet last year. There aren’t many good players in the Dleague which allowed him to get monster triple doubles, but he had already shown to get triple doubles in real games, so none of this is a big deal. That said, I think this whole Dleauge punishment idea failed

Well, I think that's because the general perception around the league is that

his time has come and gone. Supposedly they can’t relate to today’s players and whatnot. Like, coaches of his vintage wouldn’t be successful in today’s NBA. Right or wrong — that’s what’s keeping him back. The perception that he’s too old for today’s NBA. Put it another way: That he’s been unemployed for so long that employers feel his skills probably have eroded to the point where he’s no longer hireable. I just read an article on Friday about this phenomenon in the NY Times regarding the long-term unemployed and how difficult it is to get back in the workforce the longer you are unemployed.

for the same reason Avery was unemployed for 2 years?

I don't recall him ever expressing an interest in returning to coaching

He’s not unemployed, he has some pretty sweet jobs working for YES etc.

I don't think that Avery is a bad coach

Despite the losses, the team has been in most of these games and they’ve played hard but they can’t execute down the stretch to save their lives.

But Avery’s weird rotations(read: playing veteran players in an effort to win so that his record doesn’t suffer too badly) and absolute cluelessness offensively are starting to become an annoyance because they are coming at the expense of team development.

If the Nets had a better offensive system than the crap that we’ve been seeing, they wouldn’t have as much trouble scoring.

Sorry if I'm not drinking the koolaid

with you but then again you do follow the Nets blindly.

Still think the Melo deal is more like VC than KG???

I will tell you “I told you sooooooooooooooooooooooooo”

Avery is horrible but then again you taught Outlaw coming here was a good deal.

Byron or Frank but Avery Johnson has gottta go

by killa kadafi191 on Dec 5, 2010 8:26 AM EST reply actions

bad for the Nets

the Hornets told dude no and how have their season been so far??

Yea Outlaw and Petro. Yea Avery has a real eye for talent.

Avery is building for the future I’m so excited when I see he is giving players like hump murphy petro and outlaw minutes,

I know once we reach BK we will have a solid core.

While Favors plays 15 mins a game.

Avery is such a good coach. He is upset with Twill but not with Outlaw shoot selection or on the court decisions.

Avery is suchhhhhhhhhhh a good coach.

Outlaw gets minutes but hey he is an Avery guy.

Avery saw him and said he is a starter on the Nets. “Yo Prop you have to sign Outlaw he is going to be great.”

Petro he is going to be our Gortat.

Avery doesn't deserve to be fired

but his approach to offense has been horrible so far. The Nets need to move the ball around, set screens with a purpose, mix it up with Lopez operating out of the high/low post, get Favors and James some minutes/touches, and get some better movement without the ball. I’m sick of watching one dude dribbling and 4 dudes standing around twiddling their thumbs while someone commits a stupid turnover or while Brook catches the ball and WAITS for the double team to come.

watch tonight. He will catch the ball, and instead of making a move, he looks and waits for the help to come

I'm saying he has gots to go because this is year one

and I see what this guy is doing.

Imagine 3 more years of this??

I bet Favors doesn’t start next year either. Heck I bet we sign a veteran PF and give some crap on how he is going to school Favors.

I see the BS already.

They are going to try and flip it and say how Favors will be a great sixth man.

I rather clean up the dog crap now before it stinks up the whole house.

Come on Killa

Fire Avery? Really?

Have u seen the talent on this team? Starters and bench

Yes, his substitution pattern has been ugly- it appears he is reaching by playing guys like Graham. Looks like hes caught in a quandary- develop youth and take those growing pains or playing vets, who probably arent good enough to be key players on other rosters, but are for us. Bottom line, is we lack talent. Theres a reason they are willing to offer just about anything for Melo because when u look at this roster, there is a significant lack of talent.

Harris, who as we all know is always hurt
Twill- who cant show up to practice on time
Lopez- a jump shooting 7fter who cant pass out of a double team
Morrow- needs someone to create for him (a shoot 1st pg leads this team— good luck with that)
Outlaw- a spot up shooter who needs somene to create for him (see above comment with Morrow)

Should Favors play more? Yes, Should he start right now. No. Hes not ready.

And if u want to clean the dog crap—-it should start with the roster. Thats where the crap resides.

He brook have something in common

heck Avery couldn’t do it as a player in the league. Heck if the D League was around back then how many times would Avery been sent to the D league?

one thing's for sure

A BUM like Stephen Graham wouldn’t crack the Mad Ants’ rotation, LOL! Yet he has minutes on the Nets. Hahahahahaha, depressing.

The real on TWill

I don’t think that by any means its a shock that Terrance Williams is talented. He was sent to the D League because he was late a few times. I don’t think it was about his talent level. The dude has game but can be very wild on the court and try to do way too much. Triple double is impressive no doubt but until he understands the true concept that doing what it takes to help the team get wins instead of his own stat line then the D League is where he belongs. I believe the record for those triple double games was 1 and 1?!? Let’s focus more on leading the team full of developmental players and not trying to be the leader in stats. It will take u a lot further in the long run.

Listen, I’m one of the biggest T-Will fans you’ll find. Currently, he’s my favorite player on the Nets and I’ve been saying for a while that he can be an all-star in this league, but he still hasn’t fulfilled his requirements in the D-League.

Avery said he wanted to see T-Will drive hard to the rim and finish with his superior athleticism. Yes he dropped 32, but he still hasn’t fulfilled his requirements. I’m not sure why T-Will doesn’t attack the rim more — Vince left the year before he got here, so that’s not an excuse — but now that he’s in “The Dee” he shouldn’t be brought up until he gets that in his head. It will pay dividends for his production on the court and his growth as a player.

TWill has always been a stst sheet stuffer

But I imagine the Nets are looking for more than points out of him during this stint. Good to see his assists up.

TWill is embracing this right now. He knows he is lucky to have this chance to prove himself and I’m glad he’s taking it on.

It’s that type of professionalism that will get him back to the Nets soon.
