John Brennan, the Record's sports business writer, blogs about the various ways to get cheap seats, even free ones, to Nets games. The move to Newark has led to more energetic but not full houses for the team. So, the team is using ticket resellers to make a certain number of heavily discounted or free seats available each game.

Why? Brennan says Nets executives hope that fans who wind up with low-priced seats now will get hooked enough to buy season tickets later. He also notes that at least one reseller also sells airline tickets. So the stranded passenger at Newark might like an opportunity to jump on NJ Transit for a three minute trip to Penn Station and a Nets game.

This is how I've been going to games for years

Few years ago I was a season ticket holder and found I was going to more games via Stubhub and Ebay. Last year I sat courtside 12 times (twice row A center court) for an avg price of 40 a ticket. This year setas haven’t been as cheap but for about 30 a ticket I’ve been sitting in Section 10 row 1 and 2. I’ve been to 4 games so far this season. Its just like being a season ticket holder accept your not paying for the games you don’t attend. Wish more people used these tricks to pack the house.

I used to go on StubHub ad hoc because the commute to Izod prohibited me from season tickets

This year, with me living next to the Grove St. PATH train, I’m not a 20 min subway ride to the stadium – so I invested in the team with the prospects of John Wall, Lebron, etc.

When we didn’t get anything but Outlaw, Farmar, and Petro I was disappointed, but excited about being a part of the family. However, if we don’t get Carmelo Anthony, I’m not sure I’m going to renew next year.

The second-hand market is just so affordable, I can go to games as I please, and save nearly $100 per game I attend.

This isn’t the Nets fault, I know they tried, but until they succeed in building a team that I feel confident in spending big money on, I’m not likely to maintain.

This is the number one thing some fans forget… we are all paying customers.

I considered buying 1/2 season tix or even 10 game package

but secondary market is much cheaper. i have been searching online, but no way have i found row 1 center court for $30-40. until i see with my own eyes, its’ just not likely. the best $30-40 i found was about row 5+ center court. its a moot point because there are so many empty seats for those games.

would i buy season packages for Brooklyn? no, I live in jersey. but i will go to the occasional game.

would i consider buying season package now so i can snag prime season seats in Brooklyn? no, because I know Yormark wouldn’t reward us little guys. Yormark is focused on the corporate buyers. and I’m sure Yormark sell personal seat licensing fees. Yormark knows no loyalty.

Outlaw is the new Yi - just with more money and longer contract without the 7.2 rebounds and occasional shooting streak.

@ RP and 3point

Trust me there are seats THAT cheap out there. I don’t want to say which sight I use because, well heck I don’t want to be out of my tickets quite frankly. But here are some tips.

Stub Hub- In the right corner of the tickets page (once you select a certain section and row) there will be a counter. This tells you for how long the tickets will be up (usually the time can be till about an hour before tip off if the tickets are “Instant Delivery or E-Mail tickets” but if they need to be shipped the counter could end a couple days before. Stay away from these unless you the deal is spectacular because you will pay out the back end in shipping fees.) When the counter for these tickets get down to the last few hours, even sometimes a full day before. The price of the ticket will drop. Usually between 10-20 dollars.

Ebay- Usually the people that sell tickets on Ebay are ticket brokers, just like on stub hub (they would like you to believe its season ticket holders but 9 times out of 10 it isn’t) These ticket brokers usually don’t live in the area and most tickets are done via Shipping or Email. Them not living in the area is a huge plus for you. You can take EXTREME advantage of this when wanting to bargain a price. For example, a broker has tickets for 100.00 with a BUY IT NOW auction or has no bids on a regular auction. Send the seller an E-mail saying you are seriously thinking of buying the tickets but not at that price. Usually these people will work with you to sell the ticket at any price they can. Usually I tell them what they are charging no one will pay because the arena doesn’t sell and the team isn’t very good (hurts me to say that but I do what I can for good seats.) Usually they will drop the price by almost half. Just remember to keep in constant contact with them. When they see your serious they will take the offer.

These are just some tips I can give out. If you would like to know more my email is CMANCHESI@GMAIL.COM. And I am always happy to help someone find cheap ticket deals. GO NETS!

Here is a good example. Section 6 Row 3. That is 3 rows behind the Thunder bench. Face value is 150.00 per ticket. and the price there is 50.00. The price may drop, however as I said usually it doesn’t when the tickets are “hard ticket only” because they need time to ship it. Also because its overnight shipping the fee’s are a lot. But this is a good example just from Stub Hub. And this is against a good team in the Thunder. Same seats against a worse team the price will be less. Probably about 40 or even 30. Just got to keep your eyes out.

I still can't believe it

when I hear the crowd yell “LET’S GO NETS” during games.

No doubt about it, there’s no real reason to purchase season tickets or full price tickets in general through a Nets salesman / Ticketmaster when you can just go through 3rd party websites. You can get GREAT seats for as little as 10-15 dollars a seat. Upper level, center court seats can be yours for a couple of dollars. Unfortunately, you need to include the additional fee of going through a 3rd party site, but even with that fee the price is still incredibly cheap. I go through 3rd party sites for all of my tickets at the Prudential Center. It’s a pretty simple theory: supply far outweighs demand when your team simply isn’t that good right now, and there are plenty of seats available.
