Perfect Storm? Knicks May Flee to Izod as Asbestos Rains on Mecca
Cablevision is scrambling to find a new home for the Knicks Tuesday after asbestos fell from the ceiling attic at Madison Square Garden Monday night, rendering the World's Most Famous Arena its Most Toxic as well. The Knicks had to cancel a home game with the Magic scheduled for Tuesday night.
Reports circulated that Cablevision might move both teams temporarily to the Izod Center, which the Nets abandoned last April for the NBA's second newest arena, the Prudential Center. The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority said it would welcome the two teams, adding "we are in the business of booking events". As of Tuesday night, the NJSEA said it had not been contacted.
Cablevision has contacted the Prudential Center about hosting the Knicks' next game, vs. the Wizards, Friday night, but the Devils are already scheduled to play Cablevision's Rangers then.

This is just incredible
After Sheridan’s rant, to have this happen to MSG is the basketball Gods once again tormenting the Knicks for being such a horrid franchise.

Sheridan: Why would anyone not want to play in the lush rolling meadows of the… uh Meadowlands? The Izod has had the most successful NBA teams inside of it in the past decade.
I was supposed to start but I left my jersey in the locker room, so he got to start...So did you outplay him after that? I won MVP. - Derrick Favors
Sweet, sweet irony...
Hope they inherit any would be course of the Meadowlands.

Read this somewhere
This is not as easy as sweeping the mess up and moving forward.
based on NYC building codes if asbestos was released into the air the entire building is considered contaminated and subject to remediation and testing before occupancy can be reestablished.
that means tenting the contaminated area, removing the contaminated substances, testing for airborne contaminants and reissuing a certificate of occupancy.
safe to say it may be a while before the garden is considered habitable.

TRUEHOOPS SLAMS MSG!
The anti-Sheridan article
“It’s Madison Square freaking Garden! It’s the world’s most famous arena.”
The implication is that it is, of course, amazing. NBA players and all kinds of people talk like that. And it’s a no-brainer that a huge stadium in the middle of Manhattan would be home to one miracle after another. Woody Allen, Spike Lee, Denzel Washington … even the audience is luminous.
But let’s be clear: The building itself? It’s about as banal as any in the world. Once I got inside — with a credential as an intern for a radio station as a college junior — I was overwhelmingly underwhelmed. That was the better part of two decades ago, and even then it was, frankly, ratty. NBA stadiums these days are nice! Wide concourses, windows, ample bathrooms. The Garden has the vibe of an overcrowded 1960s middle school, complete with busted escalators, colors that haven’t been cool since the building opened in 1968, and paper towels drifting around in the hallways.
People are attached to the building because of the history that has been made there. Every great rock performer, all those athletes … the performances have been legendary. But people who say the magic comes from the building itself should have their heads examined.
And perhaps, now, their lungs too.

You have to love the irony in this...
It will be interesting to see if they have to play in the IZOD.
Section 2 @ the Rock
LOL lets see
how many sellouts or how full izod will be with all those new yorkers having to drive to IZOD! LMAO…
I was reading Jayson Williams's book today
I dug it up out of the bookshelf. He said St. John’s used to have early morning shoot arounds at the Garden, and there would be wildcats on the floor. Not Kentucky Wildcats, actual wildcats. Wildcats are better than rats I suppose.

Actually Proky is probably loving this
Knicks fans will come out to see the arena. If they like it and it is easily accessable, this helps Proky’s plan.
Proky is probably thanking MSG for this blunder.
If the Dolans were smart they should bite the bullet and go to IZOD because if Knick fans like the Rock more people might convert.
Isiah's fault, no doubt!
I blame this problem on Isiah Thomas, with an assist from Dolan, idiots both.
Let them enjoy the IZOD center!
Paul from Delray Beach
lol you guys where killing me coming back from NY on the bus from work
People looking at me laughing at my phone but I mean seriously even the stars who are coming out to our games Sheridan should now write an article about the 42 yr old MSG but he’s not because his puppet master Dolan would not allow it.

They will eventually come back there
Don’t count out MSG being unused forever after this. The Dolans will be able to get them back there the moment it’s done. They will never leave what they believe is their shrine. Of course I doubt after what happens, they will give an excuse to tear it down to build the Moyniham Station that has been left on life support. As for that report, it might be over 40 years old, but it has still shown to be a known venue with so many world events that even the Barclays Center could not surpass. The Knicks and Rangers could also use Radio City Music Hall like the Liberty did, though I don’t see how they could put up hockey there as they were able to for baskettball when the Liberty played there when they were unable to use MSG when the RNC was there back in 2004.
why do you guys care? it is PATHETIC!
IF THERE WERE ASBESTOS IN PRUDENTIAL…. no knick fan would care.
btw msg is fine. worry about your own team and not about the knicks.

Liberty already recognized in NJ
For those who have seen the banners outside of the Prudential Center, they already have them for the Liberty, who will be playing there as a temporary venue until the rennovations are done. When I looked at them, they said “Summer Represent” on them as if they were already welcomed compared to how they are shadowed a lot back in NYC. BTW, these banners were up way before the 2011 starts. As for the Knicks and Rangers, if fans don’t drive, they can always take the PANYNJ buses that go there constantly if they can’t use NJ Transit trains.
Well...
If Newark doesn’t end up with a team in the next 3 NBA seasons after the Nets leave, that will be a travesty. Newark wants the NBA and is accommodating them rapidly, an NBA owner has to like that but I don’t think the Maloofs would make a move across the coast.
Knicks/Rangers return on Friday
I was just noticing the sports wire at the bottom of the screen on ESPN and it was mentioned that they will be returning there as the asbestos was not that serious.
