Avery: Murphy "50-50" vs. Bobcats

Tuesday's practice is over and so Troy Murphy has worked out enough to meet his coach's requirements.  Will he play against the Bobcats on Wednesday night? Avery Johnson says it's "50-50".

Murphy thinks he can play but admits he doesn't know how many minutes. "I don't know. I'm not a swami."

Might there be a change in the starting lineup at power forward?  Johnson suggests it could be Murphy, but it also could be Kris Humphries. It won't be Derrick Favors because the coach says, "that's not the plan".

Murph Returns!

Avery should give Murph Joe Smith’s minutes for a few games, till he gets going. But I would start THE HUMPH and play him for about half the first quarter, and then bring in Favors. Murph is the only PF we have, who lets us play the offense that we want to, since he is the only “stretch four” we’ve got. GO MURPH! GO NETS! GO EAT LUNCH?

Murphy will help this team a great deal, especially when he stars. He is a very nice compliment to Brook on the offensive side

Hump should start this game…

Can't wait to see him play

In his NJ uniform. The more I think about it, I would like to see him start a game so right from the getgo we can see how he contributes. It would be a crummy debut if they bring him in halfway through the first with the team down 8 points or something like that. Give him the start and see what happens!!!

by macgyver893 on Nov 2, 2010 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

i like our PF rotation

of favors, murph, hump

but i wonder about our team’s offensive identity. these players have very different games and it will be interesting to see if it meshes or we have a completely schizophrenic system depending who is on the court at a given moment

imagine something extremely witty here

Avery said it would take 30 games

So I don’t think we’ll be completely sorted out for a bit.

Of course if the Nets don't have any intention of bringing back Murphy with a reasonable contract, then maybe he SHOULD be included in THE trade.

It would only hurt the Nets for this season, which would be considered a huge success by just barely making the playoffs.

Another reason why Murphy and DJames need to be fully tested over these coming weeks and hope for an elevation out of TWill’s game.

We haven't been told if the steroid shot was an Epidural type.

Epidural is directly into the spine – that type is “hard-core” and only 3 are allowed in a year at that level of the spine.
http://www.spine-health.com/treatment/injections/lumbar-epidural-steroid-injections-low-back-pain-and-sciatica

If it was just into the lower back muscle area to reduce swelling quicker, then its not such a big deal.

It could just be a one time thing as a result of a sprain (as we were told) and not something wrong with his lower spine or a typical aging condition, that most people over age 50 would show on their MRI.

by jerry25 on Nov 2, 2010 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder

if they could ever go BIG with Brook, Murph, and Favors together. With Murphy’s plus shooting it might work in certain situations. Plus puts outlaw on the pine. A line up with Devin, Twill, Murph, Favors, Brook would be fun to see and gets our 5 best most talented players on the court together.

Are you expecting wins against Miami and Orlando on the road?

Its the Bobcats that count. That is why Murphy needs to play at least 20 minutes.

Maybe use Favors some at backup Center.

I am looking forward to Favors starting and Murphy anchoring the second unit

The solid offensive combination of methodical Brook + spot up shooting Morrow/Outlaw would be well supported by a glass cleaning put-back crazy Favors. Not to mention he should serve as a much need backside defensive helper with three relatively slow footed team mates.

Meanwhile Murphy becomes the dependable rebounder and spot up shooter to go with the hyperactive TWILL, Farmar and DJames second unit.

Whatever happens it is great to finally get the local boy on the court.

to Murphy backing up Lopez in the post.

by Net Income on Nov 2, 2010 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

We need to figure out the starting two and three spots

I can live with Morrow at the 2 if he’s used correctly but Outlaw is definitely 2nd unit material.

Hopefully Damion James can get his act together. It seemed like he was lost as soon as he checked into the game against Miami, 30 secs in he was in the wrong position during a playcall and Lopez had to direct him.

You are right....

Outlaw is definitely not playing to starter quality.

Damion James does look lost, but I think it will require time on the court to resolve.

Tim823 was clearly under the influence

by Jay-dub on Nov 2, 2010 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

DJames looked good to me. He just missed a few easy shots against Miami, by being too anxious. He learned his lesson.

DJames is of sufficient size (6’8") to be a PF, if necessary (ie. a certain trade occurs and Nets are desperate at PF)

League: Wright Typifies Average NBA Player
Posted: 11/2/2010 5:48:00 AM
Source: David Biderman of The Wall Street Journal

It’s early, but Sacramento Kings forward Antoine Wright has won an NBA award: “Mr. Average.” The league said Mr. Wright, who had no single significant statistic through Sunday’s games, has striking similarities to league-average height, weight, age and experience.

Even at average, he’s overrated.

DUH GAHHDEN
Knicks say they are postponing game “out of an abundance of caution” and will not reopen Garden until safety assured.
JonesOnTheNBA: Jumped the gun. Not canceled for Ice this time. Asbestos issue in arena…yikes.

hahahahahaha… yeah, what player wouldn’t want to play there??

Embarassing. Wonder if Chris Sheriden will be writing about this.

Everyone should take this opportunity

To remind Chris Sheridan to write an article about the MSG asbestos issues, and to make sure you tell Marc Berman that is is “disgraceful” how an organization does not protect its fans from asbestos.

Either the Knicks saw your dire prediction above...

or they want us to face a well rested Orlando Friday nite…or both!

I f our highly paid Shooters - Morrow and Outlaw are not hitting...

We need Murphy for his Offense and ability to stretch the floor with his shot.
Oh, that would mean 42 minutes.
Don’t know if Murph is that ready.

...

Can you imagine the Knicks having to ask to allow them to play at Prudential Center just like the Liberty. lol Although I know for scheduling reasons it won’t happen.

They’d still fill it up better than we ever did. I’m guessing.

Well Frank Isola

Just said it’s possible they could play games at the Rock or Izod Center, depending on how long it takes to clean this up.

The New York Knicks game against the Orlando Magic set for Tuesday has been postponed, the team announced.

Maintenance was being performed at Madison Square Garden following Monday’s New York Rangers game which included “cleaning asbestos-related materials in the attic above the ceiling,” according to the team. Some debris fell into the arena.

After consulting with the NBA, the Knicks decided to postpone the game for safety reasons. They said they will work with experts to determine when the arena can reopen.

“As the safety of our customers and employees are our top priority, we will not reopen the Garden until we are absolutely assured the arena is safe,” the team said in a statement.

No makeup date has been announced. MSG said it would announce information about future events once details are finalized.

It’s the second recent arena-related postponement for the Magic. The exhibition game against Miami that was scheduled for the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla., was canceled because of slippery court conditions after arena officials said an oil-based cleaning solution was mistakenly applied.

We need a thread for this

Since there’s a possibility they play at Izod or Pru Center.
