Nets: "London's Adopted Team"
This should make Brett Yormark and Mikhail Prokhorov feel jolly good about their global branding efforts.
The London Daily Mirror is offering weekly updates on the Nets' season because they're "London's adopted team". The Nets play two "home games" vs. the Raptors March 4 and 5 at London's 02 Arena.
"Eye on the Nets" provides, among other things, news of Nets' "centre" Brook Lopez and "rapid point guard" Devin Harris as they prepare for "tie-ups" with opposing teams.

That whole Stuart Tanner thing
I believe that’s what sold them on the Nets – the fact that Devin was such a good sport about it after the humiliation.

i could never understand
why they didnt stage a rematch last year in New Jersey, but then again, this is the smart way to do it.
Harris said last year in preseason that “that guy doesn’t want to see me again”. He was not smiling.
we've been there a couple of times now...
but that’s really great! the more, the merrier!

Jolly good then!
"A little boy went out to play. When he opened his door, he saw the world. As he passed through the doorway, he caused a reflection. Evil was born. Evil was born, and followed the boy."
Finally a place that appreciates the name "Jersey"
They were the original. Which reminds me.
We have the one of the ugliest logos/colors in sports.
The way around it was to grab some merchandise with “New Jersey” on it. voila!
But now that Yormarket removed NJ from everything, I’m left with crapola.
He should realize it’s the “Jersey” that partly drew the Englishmen in and celebrate it.
The Daily Mirror...
…Is the only British national paper that ever really covers basketball in the UK. At least they were the ‘offical’ paper of the British Basketball team as it qulified for next years Eurobasket over the summer. Not a great paper but at least it is intersted in supporting the sport in the UK.
Just curious...
did they state the Nets record as, “4 of 10?”

I have to say...
Living in London myself this claim that the Nets are the “adopted team” of Britain, from what i’ve seen, isn’t really true. Firstly, the Daily Mirror has a tiny readership and even fewer of those give a damn about American sports, let alone the NBA. Secondly, I am yet to see any coverage in the British media about the two games in March. Maybe closer to the time, but right now, the New Jersey Nets are nobodies. You’d easily find more people who have heard of Kobe Bryant than the Nets.
I forgot to mention the ticket prices
Which are ridiculously overpriced. No casual fan is going to drop £110 for a “level 1” seat to see the Nets play the Raptors.
Think you overestimate the British interest
But yeah I may be wrong. Sorry, I guess i’m just being a typical, cynical Brit. Myself i’m trying to figure out a way to finance going – student life is tough :)
