Prokhorov Won't Do Stoli Ads

No surprise here.  Mikhail Prokhorov, who's said he's never tasted vodka, won't be doing ads for Stolichnaya as part of the Nets' sponsorship deal with the US distributor of the Russian vodka.

A source in the Prokhorov camp says any suggestion that he would do ads for anything, let alone vodka, is wrong.  The Nets' owner has, when discussing vodka in the past, expressed dismay at the stereotype of the Russian-as-drunk.  In an appearance Thursday on CNBC, Andrey Skurikhin, a Stoli official, said the company would "never rule out the possibility" of Prokhorov joining their "Stoli Original" campaign. "You never know".  Do now.

Jay-Z?

Makes sense…international superstar, part-owner of the Nets…seems like a good fit

There is also the children

Another problem with doing these ads is that kids watch the games, and they might think that it’s good to have vodka, and that will lead to a lot of problems especially if they see their favorite player having it.

agree, Tal, I dont like sports heros endorsing stuff thats not so good for you

ads for hard alcohol were banned from TV for many years. we should probably ban beer ads right now, but of course the US economy would grind to a halt.

told you.....

Proky has an agenda, make that several agendas and he won’t be furthering the stereotype Russian Vodka guzzlers. But don’t rule out Proky trying to swing MELO to our side of the fence. Proky has a standard to uphold, but Yormark would do DEPENDS commercials if they became a corporate sponsor!
