Preseason Game #3 - Nets vs. Celtics - Thursday, October 7, 7:00
There'll be two interesting homecomings Thursday night in Newark.
Shaquille O'Neal will return to his hometown when the Celtics comes to Newark to play the Nets. He'd like to see the Nets stay in Newark, but Mikhail Prokhorov says it's not happening. He's all about Brooklyn.
As for Shaq's offer to become the Newark Nets' GM, Prokhorov responded, "Regarding the gracious offer to become general manager, Shaq is always welcome to send his résumé to Billy King." O'Neal grew up in Newark, leaving when he was 14. He still has family there. He'll be playing only his second game in Celtics' green. Boston ran the 76ers out of a New Hampshire gym Wednesday in their preseason opener.
It will also be Lawrence Frank's first game back in New Jersey since taking an assistant coaching job with the Celtics. Also on the Celtic staff: Roy Rogers who left the Nets last month.
In keeping with Doc Rivers' philosophy, don't expect a lot from the Celtics' other Hall of Famers: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. Boston's other O'Neal, Jermaine, is hurt. As for the Nets, Devin Harris is a game time decision at point but Troy Murphy appears to be game away. Asked why he didn't practice Wednesday, Harris, responded, “Timmy is what happened,” Harris said, jokingly referring to Tim Walsh, the Nets' trainer. “He overpowers all.”
The game will be broadcast on YES.

My Man Favors.....
Is going to show Shaq a thing or two…….
I recall Favors has a similar photo. Maybe someone can put them side by side.
Fortunately Shaq shouldn’t play much Thursday in a back-to-back game.
Hopefully Boston’s big three plays limited minutes.
Boston has nothing to prove (unless they choose to get revenge for their embarrassing home loss last season).
And if Nets win, the Media will say that Nets were trying too hard.
If Nets lose they will make fun of Nets.
I prefer the 3-0 Nets.
Favors and Shaq don't play the same position
but if they did, Favors would beat him down the court every time.
Nets = Global
Knicks = Local
You have to admit...
Shaq looks like an animal, he just seems to get bigger and bigger… HA!!
watch out for that big green guy
"I want to win, I want the team to win and I'm in complete control."
-Coach Avery Johnson.
YUUUUUUUP
The Nets took a step backward from a preparation standpoint and some of their players regressed after Kiki Vandeweghe replaced Frank. It was one of the NBA’s worst-kept secrets last year.
Granted Kiki was really bad,
but some can argue that Twill became a better player after Kiki reprimanded him.
Just Saying!!!
Preparation standpoint? 0-16 clearly they werent prepared with Frank either.
After Thorn reprimanded him, you mean
Changed Williams’ entire approach and he started playing his brand of basketball and hasn’t looked back since.

This was what Thorn talked about when
Knownothings disrespected Kiki. Selective historical memory. I think Kiki did his crappy dirty job with a lot of dignity and professionalism. Frank was ok too, until he went on ESPN and dropped a few Fbombs about the Nets.
No.
What happened was that Kiki helped show Frank the door, and then didn’t like what he got- a much tougher job than his own. Kiki SUCKED!
Dignity? Professionalism? You don’t know what you’re talking about.
I wasn’t even going to respond to this, but its SO wrong I couldn’t let it go.
Frank lost 16 games...
Besides, everyone was getting axed. Frank was luckly to get cut first. Kiki was sent to dig his own grave, I thought he did best he could under those conditions.
not a frank apologist..
but you have to remember that luck and good health was not on the nets side during that start
It was a perfect storm of a season.
No doubt.
Granted Kiki was really bad,
but some can argue that Twill became a better player after Kiki reprimanded him.
agreed.
TWill himself thanked Kiki for that.
you're right Andres B
I have seen several interviews where T-Will talks about Kiki benching him and how he was able to see and learn the pro game.
In the end thanking Kiki for making him a better player.
Took a step forward by actually winning a game
I’d rather have Kiki than Frank. But I’d rather have Sly Fox than Kiki.

Who cares Avery is > x 100
Don't pay Billy King a severance package.
Boston will be playing a back-to-back
Rivers last year benched all of the big 3 against us facing that scenario. 3-0
Last year Boston still won, which should have been an indication Nets were going to have a terrible year.
Preseason DOES give you some indication of the regular season.
Nets should win Thursday, especially if Devin plays.
And Hump will go All out against Boston.
LoL
We Net fans are so hungry for wins due to last season’s hell that we’re looking for reasons on why we could win this ‘Preseason’ game vs Boston. And I’m right there with
you guys =D
Go Nets!!
Go New Nets!
people claim they don't matter
but everyone wants a win
"A little boy went out to play. When he opened his door, he saw the world. As he passed through the doorway, he caused a reflection. Evil was born. Evil was born, and followed the boy."
Say what you want about Frank....
but he was a consummate professional. You may have not liked his rotations, or his calls, or his time outs, but as a man, save for that ESPN slip up (if you even want to call it that) he was as classy as they came. That and one time during the heat playoff series, he asked my dad pregame if we were “ready for a W”….we lost that game.
anyone going to this game?
Things to look for
-Morrow’s defense
-Outlaw’s overall production
-Derrick Favors bouncing back, keeping himself on the floor against these Boston bigs. I’d like to see 6-8 pts, 5-6rbs, 1blk at the very least.
-Stephen Graham’s play, is he worth keeping on the roster?
-Terrence’s on the floor discipline. The target should be two TO’s or less. A lot to ask, but you gotta aim high. Will he settle for the textbook efficient pass or will he try to make the highlight pass? I imagine by now that Avery already has told him where he needs to focus his attention. Shot selection also.
-Devin’s defense
-Uzoh’s overall play

OFF-SUBJECT
Watching the Knicks having trouble and losing to the Timberwolves Ha ha ha. Nets have a much better squad than the knicks hands down but they get the love SMH.
They traded away their best rebounder
Not shocking that they can’t rebound or defend. We are going to beat the brakes off of them. Hall of Fame Skills won’t be able to save them from the pain

The team is sorely lacking in basketball IQ
Mozgov had a few good moments but no real surprises. I don’t see them improving at all. Their shooting has also taking a hit. Felton is a career 32 percent guy from 3 for example
When we play them next Tues, we are going to have most of our guys back.
Murphy, Favors, Lopez, and Hump will have a field day on the glass. Jason Kidd could rebound better than Amare..

Kidd's ex wife...
….was spreading rumors about RJ being gay. Joumana was a poster girl for class, let me tell ya

Michelle Beadle could have something to say about RJ.
Enjoy the Beadle photo album. She will be 33 in a couple of weeks.
Wut?
You saying RJ and Beadle had something going on the side?
DUH
he was engaged to one of the Nets dancers and then broke it off like a night before the wedding via text and him and luke walton took a vacation together.
I forget the details. I thought he was engaged to one of the dancers/cheerleaders.
Beadle wouldn’t surprise me, but I don’t remember the timing of his engagement.
Why then does he get accused of being gay (like the day before his wedding).
*mind @ssplode*
Too crazy for me to think about. LOL
I HEART Michelle
i really wish YES found a way to keep her, but ESPN grabbed her up, good for her. I hope she remembers us Nets fans. I met her a few times at Izod, she prob is the sweetest “celebrity” i’ve ever met. Plus, she actually knew alot bout the team and bball. I hope she never lets ESPN turn her into a BS artist.
It will be interesting
to see T-Will and Nate play against one another.
Hopefully friendship is out the door when Terrence takes the court.
Kind of off topic
But Jerebko and Terrico White are out with serious injuries. They aren’t going to be playing the Nets.
~AC24
Both games in China will be televised @ NBATV
according to G Sussman…in the AM b/c of time difference.
I'm sure they will have a replay of game too.
Question is whether the announcers will actually be in China or in Atlanta?
The Knicks....
They are more aggressive than last season on defense as far as steals and blocks, they have more athletic players. However they are horrible rebounding team and there is nothing they can do to change that. Toney douglas seems to be a better pg than Felton also.
We are going to be a superb rebounding team, especially when Murphy starts to play. Damion James has a nose for the ball also.
This game against the Celtics tommorow will be very interesting how our guards play. I want to see how Harris and Farmar go against Rondo.
Watching the Celts
destroy the 6ers. Turner is playing facepalm terrible.
1 min left in the 2nd half.
Bos had 44 pts, Phi 20. Turner 0 for 4 shooting.
Devin and Murph and LFRANK
With our luck and their track records…they’ll both be out till December. AND I would give LFRANK a warm reception, last year’s 0-18 start was not his fault as HE was not injured, it was everyone else and a general lack of quality forwards due to trying to reduce payroll to get below the cap. In two years, LFRANK will be coaching the Celtics which is one of the top three or four jobs in the league. At least tonight’s game is on TV!
Paul from Delray Beach
If he's coaching the C's in 2 years...
They’ll probably be in full rebuilding mode. KG, Pierce, Allen, Shaq, and JO will all be about 65 years old. He’ll have to rebuild with Rondo and whoever else is left. Won’t be the all star retirement home it is now…

He did not know how to motivate players......
He did not know how to blend players together…….(JKIDD did that for him on the court)……..Therefore , there was zero chemistry…….Players had no respect for him as a coach…..And lastly…….Players were totally not prepared for games (say what you will) which is the total opposite of Avery (A Real Coach),,,,Not only does Avery and his players come prepared w/ a game plan but it also changes when necessary……
Happy it's on TV Tonight
I had to give away my tickets & parking for tonight due to our household’s busy schedule, but I’m grateful this one will be on TV!!! GO NETS!!! Play Hard!!!!
woot!
I’ll be taking a train to Tarrytown after work to play some b-ball, but I’ll be feverishly refreshing the score on my Droid. Go Nizzles!

If you read the new links above you can see that Twill and Lopez love this Avery Johnson guy. Twill gets it! Lopez Gets it!
This season is looking bright.
Avery is a real motivator.
yeah
I remember reading a comment from Avery recently. He said something like I’m not going to pull Twill out of the game because he makes one mistake — that’s the agreement we have with each other. Or something to that effect. I really like the mutual respect between players & coach.

T-Will quote of the day...
“Our owner [Mikhail Prokhorov] said he’s gonna make Knicks fans become Nets fans, so I’m riding with him until the wheels fall off,” Williams said. "I kind of see us being in the shadow because they’re more established, but the way we’re going and how we’re playing, as far as getting better and the coach we got, we’ll be out of that shadow.
“And then someone else may be in our shadow when we get to Brooklyn.”

big picture
Twill sees it. The Knicks hopes rely on landing Melo and Paul. We have young talent that is developing rapidly, a great Coach, Owner and 2 brand new arenas waiting.
He's an emotional guy who's buying into Avery's system
The test will be when things are not going so good, will he still have the same attitude. His talent is boundless. The only thing that stops him is his mind. Avery will have his hands full with him but he’s up to the task and will make TWill the best player he can be. Something like Brown & Iverson.
Last season was better in low-def, anyway.
