Game 1 - Nets vs. Pistons - Wednesday, October 27, 7:00
The players are pumped up. The coach is fired up. The arena's spruced up and the owner's Gulfstream is revved up. The only thing that's not "up" is expectations...and that may be strategic. Still, Wednesday's game is what everything's been about since April, when the team owner was Bruce Ratner, the general manager was Rod Thorn, the coach Kiki Vandeweghe and the games were at the IZOD. On the other hand, no John Wall, no LeBron James ...and so far... no Carmelo Anthony. No problem? We'll find out soon enough.
In an interview on WFAN Wednesday morning, Avery Johnson announced Devin Harris has been voted captain and Brook Lopez co-captain.
The Nets first opponent, the Pistons, haven't had a good preseason. Their best rookie from last season, Jonas Jerebko, is likely out for the season and this year's rookie, Greg Monroe, has yet to dazzle. Joe Dumars' attempts to revise and rebuild an older roster haven't worked out and the prospect of a new owner, after decades under the Davidson family, could mean big change. The Pistons still have some horses: Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Charlie Villanueva and the always dangerous Ben Gordon. They also have Austin Daye, who seems to have found a place at power forward.

I guess, but all of those guys (Rip, Gordon, Prince, TMac) are not the guys they once were. 2 years ago that would have been a good wing rotation
Williams can get his shot off against any of those guys
they have to worry about stopping Big Disney from tearing them apart inside

Very nice pic
and I just did another quick check of ticketmaster, no 4 seats together anywhere in the building. Really hope this sells out.

Not to be a pessimist
but there are still loads of tickets on ebay and stubhub. But I hope it is a full building as well. I will be waving my towel for the energy!

Yea there are still a bunch of tix on
those sites, but they still count as sold.
I hope it’s “sold out” but the place is also packed. Should be a great atmosphere.

Wallace
what's the over/under
on how many points Harris will let Stuckey go off for?

My how things have changed
7 years ago, these guys were our rivals. Now we’re on the way back up from the toilet and they’re bogged down with some god awful contracts.
Lopez is going to destroy them inside.
I’m getting pumped.

Just like Outlaw.
I’m glad we “overspent” on only one mediocre guy, and not two.
Outlaw was not worth the last two years of the deal
I concede that point. Lets give him some time though but I’m also worried about him. He runs like an old man. Dick Bavetta looks like he can move better than Outlaw for god’s sake
If he can give us 15pts 7rebs per with a solid clip from 3 I will not complain.
Petro gets too much crap on here. I think that he will be a decent contributor. 3 Mil is pocket change for this franchise

Ben Wallace may be 6'9
but if Lopez doesn’t set him self early Wallace will just bully him on Defense.
Hope Favors will have a good game...
I am so psyched about this game… too bad I have work.
This is a winnable game. We almost won our first game last year and then...
Please, let’s win this one and not start another losing streak.
Ah yes, first game last year really set the tone
I was so pissed to see them blow that lead. Damien Wilkins, ugh.
The best thing from that video was
that beautiful no look pass at 0:19
Only reseason I see this team winning more than 35 games is becuase
coach Johnson, he will not let this team lose back-back-back games more than once and there will only be a few back-back loses IMO. You know he will have this team working their tails off if he sees back-back-back loses or even more try back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back loses.
I hope Devin looks for offense tommrow and from now on
The way he played in Pre Season was bad he was an all star 2 years ago putting up 20 points a game. If he can do that along with Brook that will leave the shooters like Outlaw and Morrow open easily.
devin needs to play defense
screw scoring. He needs to defend and create shots for his teammates. That’s all he needs to do but he probably will do nothing more than play himself off of this team if preseason is any indication, which it isn’t so we’ll have to see.
You’ve got two shooters, possibly three when Murph gets up to speed, in the starting line up and Harris, Lopez, and Williams act like they have horse blinders on. It’s ridiculous.

the timing of the season starting is perfect. life’s in a bad spot. I swear, if I didn’t have the Nets I would not be in a good place.

I'm feeling the same way Andy
this will show us what type of nets we have. this is a game that is very winnable for the Nets and they should win but if we lose we could start off with 0-4 already.
So here is hoping that everything is new

Dec 27, 2008 when we beat Charlotte 114-103 in overtime for a 15 - 15 record!!!
I’m hoping we stretch the 500 mark beyond tomorrow night!

I was at that game!
You think Izod had trouble getting fans, Time Warner arena was practically empty (to be fair it was Christmas weekend.) My uncle managed to get seats a few rows back, and my sisters screamed every time the Bobcats shot freethrows. It was quiet enough that I like to think they helped us win the game :P
I remember watching that one too...
I was in El Paso Texas for the holiday and my in-laws thought I was bananas screaming at my laptop on League Pass!

Farmar tells Lakers don't bother, he's going to get a Championship ring with Nets

T-Wills new title: "Mayor"
Second-year swingman Terrence Williams has apparently elected himself mayor of the Nets locker room.
“He was definitely loud last year as well,” center Brook Lopez said. “(But) Terrence has become twice as loud, which isn’t hard for him at all. He’s done it with flying colors.”
“That’s not really my focus point,” Williams said of being the center of attention in the locker room.
“My thing is, once you become older with things, you become wiser,” he continued. “You tend to gain more confidence in something. As the summer went on and me working out and coming back here, I gained confidence in my basketball game and myself to be able to go to Devin and say, ‘You should have (done) this on this play,’ as well as take criticism from him and learn from him.”

LOVE the maturation...
I hope he’s this positive throughout the whole season. It’s easy to get excited in the beginning of the season… but if they’re not doing well in january, I hope he’s still got that enthusiasm. And LOL at TWill talking about becoming older and wiser like he’s been here for like 10 seasons… It’s year 2!

But John,
That is exactly what T-Will did at Louisville. Gradually year by year he became more of a vocal leader on and off the court.

I normally hate rooting for Boston, but I make exceptions when they’re playing the Heat or the Lakers… I love the hate for LeBron, even in Boston. I just hope Sunday isn’t like every other Nets game where there are more LeBron fans than anything else. I want boos! And reports that LeBron goes home every night and wipes his tears with $100 bills cuz everybody boos him!

unfortunately there will only be a few of us booing. That’s why I want Melo to come here – so we get the excitement back to our arena.

The problem is
our team defense has to be good enough to withstand the type of abuse Lebron James laid out there tonight. There were plays where James just manhandled Pierce. Outlaw is going to get torched

CDR
trade was horrible. just terrible. He really could have been good and we trade for a second rounder? His attitude was his only problem and Avery would have fixed that. His college coach and normal NBA coach say he was a winner, compettive and never complained about injury. They also said he wasn;t a locker room issue. He should still be a net, or Jordan Crawford and Damion James should both be Nets. unless we end up with one of those second round steals, this trade was el horrible (horrible in spansih

i believe the rally towels
were only for tonight. According to Nets.com. But i mean, if they give towels for the Pistons, there is no doubt in my mind they do it for the Heat too
A WIN!
I predict a win for us versus Detroit on Wednesday. GO NETS!
Also, THE HEAT looked pretty bad, and yet, they were down only three with a minute to go. What does that tell you? DWADE looked rusty and the offense didn’t work with Arroyyo running the show. But with Lebron dominating the ball, they still almost beat the second best team in the league, even with their new Shaq. Give DWADE two weeks to get his act together, and Eric that time to figure out that he should just give DWADE and LEBRON the ball, and forget about a “real” point guard, and the HEAT will start to run over the league. Check back on them in two weeks, and see their record and how they are playing then.
Paul from Delray Beach
Miami
should let Wade initiate the O, make plays for others while picking and choosing his spots to score. That’ll preserve his body while Lebron attacks and becomes the main scorer. Only way that they’ll win IMO the roster is atrocious aside from the big 3
"Anthony Randolph has hall of fame skills" - GALLO!
I disagree. In fact, I’m very impressed with how Riley assembled the rest of the team.
You have:
Chalmers, Haslem, Anthony, Miller, House, Big Z, Jones, Stackhouse and two veteran presences who have been around the block in Magloire (former Net) and Howard.
Considering the skill level of the “Talents in South Beach” I think that is a very good bench. I do however, think that the Heat will have trouble winning against top-tier teams in the playoffs without a low-post presence (which I’ve been saying since the summer).
Promoting a grenade-free America.
Their roleplayers are old as dirt
and their PGs stink.
Chalmers didn’t even sniff the floor last night

maybe, but i just know that miami tried to play team ball the 1st Q and it looked real bad
miami started with a game plan and got torn to shreds by boston’s D. in the 3rd Q, they went into desperation mode and just let LeBron do his thing. miami came within 3 at the end, but there was a ton of individual play. miami is definitely beatable in a 7 game series. but funny enough, if you didn’t watch the game and just studied the box score, you’d think it was a close game.
Outlaw is the new Yi - just with more money and longer contract without the 7.2 rebounds and occasional shooting streak.
I really like the picture for this thread
Lil General commanding Harris and Lopez to SIC them.
Most of the other pictures must be PhotoSHop’ed. Outlaw has a Mohawk. When did Murphy play with a Nets uniform?
i would stash him on the bench, definitely wouldn't play him yet unless you're desperate

It comes down to Casspi from Sac-town or Favors...
UGHH I’m really torn.. I have a gut feeling that tells me Favors will play 30+ minutes tonight and go 13/8/1 or something like that… and Casspi comes off the bench for Sacramento so idk…
I got Morrow on my fantasy team.
Lets not lose to the worst projected team this season.
Welcome to the 2010-11 season
It almost has to be better than last year.
And that’s all I’m expecting for now, until I can get a better sense of how these players work together.
Still looks like a bad defense. But at least there are some shooters.
Murphy
from either blogs, articles, or the avery intervew, is murphy going to play? if so how many minutes? he will be key in keeping us in games this year. just curious. thanks.

funny story (or not)
For the Boston preseason game, I decided to park in an Edison lot on Broad St about 3 blocks away. It was only $5 from “5pm to closing.” Who woulda thunk 8pm is closing for Edison park???? I am used to parking in NYC with nightlife. At 10pm, I had to walk to the train station, and get up early next day to pick up my car.
