Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Preseason Game 1 - Nets @ Maccabi Haifa - Sunday, October 3, 7:00

Aaaron Brown - New Jersey Nets

The Nets really don't know much (anything?) about Maccabi Haifa, but they're enthused about getting started. They're say they're ready and they're healthy.  Terrence Williams, who went down with a contusion Thursday, practiced Saturday and will play Sunday.  Troy Murphy (groin strain) saw his first contact Saturday but will sit another day.  Only undrafted rookie Brian Zoubek (back) looks like he'll be down for a while. Making matters worse, Avery Johnson says Johan Petro has been a big surprise.  Johnson says he hopes to have players doing rotation minutes by the third or fourth preseason game.

For the Nets, there'll be some milestones, even if it's preseason.  Johnson returns to coaching.  Twelve players will be wearing a Nets uniform for the first time, including four rookies, led by top draft choice Derrick Favors and five free agent pick-ups: Petro, Travis Outlaw, Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow and Joe Smith. One player to watch on Maccabi is rookie Sylven Landesberg, a Queens native who played for Virginia last year.  Jeff Rosen, Haifa owner and a Jersey native, rooted for the Nets as a kid.

Technically Anthony Morrow was a S&T, not a FA, but I thought that Stephen Graham WAS a FA signing?

The difference is important because everything has to be translated into availability for a Melo trade!

by jerry25 on Oct 2, 2010 5:39 PM EDT reply actions

But if he makes team, he is still a FA pickup.
And from what we have heard, he is a pretty tough guy, like Hump and DJames. Avery should like those type of players.

Why are people randomly bringing up Melo EVERYWHERE?

give it a rest.

I do notice that the new profile names which came out of the woodwork have receded back into the dark night.

this is like when you were a kid and your mom had to talk to another grown up

you were asked to wait quietly.

These stories don’t deal with Melo and some of us are worn the explicative out.

You sound like my Grandmother, lol one of her favorite sayings was: “children should be seen and not heard.” :)

whatsup aunt B heard that too often from mine too

The worst was during long trips to upstate NY or Reading PA.
Then they were surprised when I didn’t tell anyone I needed some new underwear.

Grandma’s can be annoying in that sweet old lady way.

Looks that way. Someone has to be cut and Nets have 6 Bigs, counting Smith.

by jerry25 on Oct 3, 2010 8:57 AM EDT up reply actions

I’d rather they cut Graham.

I'm going to the game too

Courtside. Probably take a notebook and post my game summary come Monday morning. I’m jazzed about the upcoming season.

Bobby Simmons

OH NO! According to the preview on Maccabi Haifa’s website Bobby Simmond is expected to play for us. Odd that a player not even on our roster will play ha ha

I also appreciated

I liked that they found it important enough to note that Chris Quinn is no longer on the team.

Any NetsDaily pregame plans?

This will be my first time going to the Prudential Center, otherwise I’d say, “Let’s all meet at Bill’s Pub”… I’m bringing my little bro who isn’t a basketball fan, so look out for the 6’8" guy with the Devin Harris jersey and the 6’5" guy who couldn’t care less…

its also my first time going to the “rock”, not quite familiar with the area as well, but that will soon change

Just worth noting

That if this game is even close, we’ll be mocked all season for it.

Surprisingly important, but public perception standards.

Let's see..

Macabbi is a Euro league “power house” (whatever that actually means) and we are the reigning laughing stock of the NBA….anything is possible!
