Peter Vecsey reports that the Nets' interest in Rudy Guy spurred Grizzles' owner Michael Heisley into offering the 6'8" swingman a maxed out $81.6 million in July. Vecsey says two sources told him the Nets "were prepared to present restricted free agent Rudy Gay with a maximum 5-year offer sheet, frontloaded with a $20 million payment due upon signing if the Grizzlies decided to match." Indeed, that had always been the Nets backup plan if the Big Three spurned them.
