Petrovic Remembered in ESPN's "Once Brothers"
The latest of ESPN's 30 for 30 documentaries tells the story of former Net Drazen Petrovic and his friendship with his Yugoslavian teammate Vlade Divac. The two led their country to a World Championship gold medal in 1990, but their relationship was destroyed by the Croatian War of Independence, never to be repaired once Petrovic was killed in a car accident on June 7, 1993.
After being traded from Portland, Petrovic averaged 19.4 points on 51 percent shooting in 2 1/2 seasons with the Nets. His No. 3 was retired by the team the fall after he died and he was enshrined into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2002.
"Once Brothers" debuts on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

After Julius Erving, Chris Mullin, Clark Gillies, and Bryan Trottier – my favorite athlete of all time was Petro. Had the pleasure of speaking with him twice – and that only made him more likeable. He was genuine, attentive, cared that you understood him, etc…
I was there when they retired his number- still have the pin that was handed out. I was totally shaken when I heard he’d been killed. I rooted for him against the Dream Team in the Olympics. He single handedly kept his team in the game for one half.
Oh what the Nets could’ve done in ’94 with Petro. I will never, ever forget him — he was truly, truly special.
Petro was the man
That was my favorite Nets team. Kenny Anderson Petro and DC.
Petro should have been an allstar. He was fearless. He took the big shots and made them.

The best
Drazen was hands down the best SG to ever put on the Nets uniform. Dude was fearless and would go at anyone on the court. He had one of the quickest releases i have ever seen. He was just starting to really understand the U.S game when he got killed. It took the Nets years to recover from that tragedy.
R.i.p
