Nets Trading Najera for Humphries, Releasing Sean and Shawne Williams

The Nets and Mavericks have agreed to swap Eduardo Najera for Kris Humphries and Shawne Williams. To free up a roster spot, the Nets are expected to release Sean Williams, then waive Shawne Williams after the deal. The trade might not be finalized until the league office reopens Monday. Humphries is nine years younger and makes $100,000 less than Najera this season, but is owed $200,000 more in 2010-11.

“To Release Sean and Shawne Williams”-what are the odds of that?

anyway getting rid of najera is HUGE! I expect kris to have minutess backup up yi…lets see what he does.

Woj reports the Nets are trying to trade Boone as well.

by Net Income on Jan 9, 2010 12:46 AM EST reply actions

If Humphries is a bum then Najera is a corpse. I will take this gift of being able to get rid of Eddie Najera. Let him enjoy his early retirement on Cuban’s dime. I expect Humphries to backup both Yi and Lopez…and if he plays well enough I wouldnt be surprised if he becomes trade bait himself. Nets still have an eye on clearing a few more million in cap space for next offseason.

I, for one, believe the NETS are going to regret releasing Sean Williams. Regardless of his youth, the team never gave this guy a chance to show his true skills and mark my words it will come back to haunt them. Some team is going to give him a chance and he will shine when given that opportunity.

This really does make me happy. Both Williams’ are thugs and crappy players. I do wish our Sean luck though. I do not know how Shawne is in the nba. Whatever I hated najera so I am happy. This means we have an open roster spot again?

by Bruce on Jan 9, 2010 12:54 AM EST reply actions

Andy,

How would we know that? Has the guy ever been given a chance to start a game, let alone play more than ten minutes or less per outing? I recognize that he was never going to get the chance with our team, yet it is simply a shame.

I’d also like the team to actually take a look at Shawne Williams. The guy can play and he would be far less worse than some of the duds we do have. What do we have to lose?

by Adam on Jan 9, 2010 12:55 AM EST reply actions

SWAT will not come back to haunt anybody, but he does deserve a chance to play somewhere else- maybe he will get it together. I hope he does well.

by 1milord on Jan 9, 2010 1:09 AM EST reply actions

Now the Alston/Quinn deal makes more sense.

The Nets have to buy out Shawne Williams and pay Sean Williams the rest of the season.

By dumping Alston, the Nets saved $1 million and the Heat agreed to pay the Nets $640,000, the equivalent of what Quinn was owed. They also save about $60,000 net on Najera for Humphries.

You could also make the case that this is a delayed benefit of the Carter trade. The Nets used one of the two trade exceptions from the Carter trade to facilitate the Quinn trade and part of the other exception to facilitate the Shawne Williams part of the deal. I suspect that the Mavs will get something else in this deal, just as the Heat got that hyper-protected Nets second round pick.

SWAT has shown nothing in 3 seasons that would make me balk at the idea of the Nets releasing him. He has never improved any aspect of his game. He was a blown draft pick, period.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jan 9, 2010 1:12 AM EST reply actions

Best case scenario is sean williams is a 9th man on a team and has some nice games. The more likely scenario is he is out of the league after a short stint with 1 team.

SLEEP!?

I’m waiting for the late returns from Dallas!!!

I guess the Nets could release Quinn, but that would leave them with Terrence “Sleepy” Williams as the third point guard.

All kidding aside, in the past three days the Nets have traded Rafer Alston, 33; Eduardo Najera, 34; and Sean Williams, 22, for Chris Quinn, 26; Shawne Williams, 23 and Kris Humphries, 24.

By the end of the day, after releasing the two reprobate Williams, they will have only 14 players on the roster, leaving the possibility of another trade.

by Net Income on Jan 9, 2010 1:32 AM EST reply actions

I’m not sure how this Dallas can think this makes them a better team so I have no idea why they would make this trade.

Good trade for the Nets. Humphries is a better player than Boone in every way and should replace him in the rotation. It will be interesting if Humphries can maintain his energy level and stay out of foul trouble with the increased minutes he’s sure to get on the Nets. His per 36 minute numbers have been quite good for the last 3 or 4 years.

As for Sean Williams, he played 18 mpg in 73 games as a rookie and 3 years later he still has no value other than a shot blocker. To say he never got a chance is just not true.

It’s a salary dump…Marc Stein of ESPN said earlier today the main reason they were interested in moving Humphries and Williams was to reduce their luxury tax bill, which is enormous.

It also gives them some roster flexibility.

does humphries have an expiring contract?

by tu vieja on Jan 9, 2010 1:49 AM EST reply actions

@ NI

I understand that it is a salary dump but since when does Cuban care about paying the luxary tax? His team has the 2nd best record in the west and his team isn’t getting any younger. You would figure he would be trying to make his team better instead of looking to dump salary.

by Tin Man on Jan 9, 2010 1:58 AM EST reply actions

No, he has an option for 3.2 million for next year. But who knows, if he gets minutes and produces he may choose to opt out.

by Alex F on Jan 9, 2010 2:09 AM EST reply actions

It’s roster tweaking, or maybe just a little more. These moves are not going to win any more games for us, really. This is not to say that I am not glad (double negative) to see Najera leave, he is washed up. What all of you missed, is Mark Cuban wanting Najera so that he has someone on his bench who knows how to give a foul in a playoff game!!!!!

that nate robinson trade would have been a good deal for us. nate and courtney lee coming off the bench along with darko to back up lopez.

by superb on Jan 9, 2010 6:54 AM EST reply actions

Sean hasn’t shown much progress in the past 3 years. And since we don’t see the players in and out every day like the coaching staff and management, I’m sure he was even worse than he appeared. They definitely made a good call in my book.

-Nicebull, I get the same impression of Dooling… all around pro, solid d, runs the offense. If it were my team to coach I would have him start over Harris and have TWill start over Lee as well.

I think if we gave Twill 30 minutes a game, for good or bad in this lost season, we could make and quicker assessment that we did with Sean Williams. If he can’t hack it after a solid season of play then make a move.

I was totally expecting Lee would have more nights like last night after acquiring him. He’s been a bust so far and I don’t know how long management is going to give him. He is just awkward- too small, poor d, weird form to his shot, poor shot selection.

Proky’s fingerprints are all over this trade. And I like Humphries more than Ryan Anderson.

by David on Jan 9, 2010 7:40 AM EST reply actions

This is a great deal I’d say. Sean was a screwjob in the locker room. Nice guy, funny, but just a nut.
Notice how Stein (on his Twitter) or Woj mentioned that the Nets are trying to get rid of the most disgruntled veterans…and that Josh Boone has been shopped around for a while now. I expect Josh and Bobby Simmons (possibly together, hopefully) to be traded next. I don’t see Dooling, Hayes, or Hassel being traded this season. We need SOME vets and those are all top notch, good classy guys on and off the court. (as was Eddie, at least off the court, but his contract said otherwise) .

Overall, I wake up happy to this news.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 8:03 AM EST reply actions

I recognize that Humphries will add an element to our team that we are sorely missing (hustle, rebounding and just maybe, some scoring from the backup PF spot). I am still somewhat disappointed in letting Sean go. “Tin Man” mentioned he played 18MPG in his rookie season and if I recall he did a pretty good job while on the court. Maybe it was Kidd propping him up a bit, yet to receive the little playing time he has received is a travesty and one that once again, we will regret down the road.

I would let go of Quinn rather than letting Sean go and give any minutes Quinn would have received to Terrance W. Sad to say, yet I believe Terrence is on his way to be viewed as another Sean W. if we do not properly engage him on the court at the present time.

by Adam on Jan 9, 2010 8:07 AM EST reply actions

“Disgruntled vets” may also include Devin Harris, since the Nets’ main priority is to get Yi and Brook on the same page. Trust me, IF the Nets get Wall Harris is a goner.

I guess Proky threw him some loose change.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 8:11 AM EST reply actions

If Mark Cuban is “worried” about costs you can bet there are many other, poorer owners who might start having fire sales.

Who knows what “star” players might become avaiable if the Nets are willing to pick up the tab.

And the Nets have the money, billions and billions. LOL

Welcome aboard Proky.

NBA luxury tax… Proky will consider that “tipping” money.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 8:20 AM EST reply actions

We are going to be paying Shawne Williams already, thus why not attempt to use him the rest of the season to assess whether or not he possesses the skills necessary to help our team? We can always cut him if it does not work out and it seems that he and CDR are close with one another.

by Adam on Jan 9, 2010 8:23 AM EST reply actions

@Adam;

Maybe CDR and T-Will are next to go. I don’t think Proky is going to put up with “head cases” or potential “head cases”. Being “close” to Shawne Williams would raise a “red” flag to me. Proky will be the only one allowed to raise the “red flag”. LOL

With all his money and connections, Proky doesn’t have to put up with any misfits or “problem players”… They play “hardball” in Russia.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 8:32 AM EST reply actions

I can see where you are coming from Mike, yet didn’t we just offer a deal to the Knicks for Nate Robinson? He is just as much a headcase and malcontent as these other players.

by Adam on Jan 9, 2010 8:38 AM EST reply actions

@Adam;

Yeah, your right. We probably won’t know if that offer was for “real”, and if it was for real, what was Nets management thinking. I for one thought that it would be crazy to bring Nate on to this team.

All joking aside about Proky, we do not really know if Thorn, Kiki and Ratner are giving the orders or taking them at this point?

I just hope Nets fans don’t put to much pressure on, and expect too much, from Kris Humphries.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 8:47 AM EST reply actions

So the Nets are looking at the D-League for talent…

…if we can get Boone to go, will it be the return of Boom Tho!?

by soul driver on Jan 9, 2010 8:56 AM EST reply actions

(Excerpt from Nets are Scorching Web Page) Here’s ESPN’s John Hollinger scouting report on Humphries, before the season started:

Humphries has two major weaknesses. First, he’s a selfish offensive player who forces shots. Even though he can score, he too often flings quick jumpers and breaks plays, especially when he catches in the high post area. He shoots the ball like it’s contagious, flicking it from in front of his face within nanoseconds of picking up his dribble. The result is usually a low liner into the front rim. He can finish and draw fouls around the basket and is an impressive offensive rebounder, but he doesn’t earn brownie points with the coaches when he lets it rip off the dribble from 15. Also, he needs to improve his foul shooting (58.5 percent career).

The other weakness is his defense. Humphries has a strong build but is undersized for a 4 at 6-foot-8, and his effort is inconsistent. He keeps gambling by trying to steal post entry passes instead of playing solid D behind his man, and with his quickness he should be a better pick-and-roll defender.

by Adam on Jan 9, 2010 8:56 AM EST reply actions

@Andy;

After viewing that Kris Humphries video on YouTube, I would say that he’s headed for the Hall of Fame… LOL

He does look strong and active. Finishes real strong.

As long as he plays hard and smart, that all I ask for.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 9:01 AM EST reply actions

“Humphries has two major weaknesses. First, he’s a selfish offensive player who forces shots”

“Enough said, your hired”. Sounds like Kris will have no problem fitting in on this Nets team. LOL

Those scouting reports always sound really positive or really negative. His sounded in between.

I guess we will find out pretty soon ourselves.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 9:07 AM EST reply actions

Last night Yi made two stupid fouls and was pushed out of the paint (he was out of position, too) with minimal force, leading to an offensive rebound and easy dunk. That will NOT happen with Humprhies. He will be there at the end and excert muscle, force, presence. Thorn has been looking for a muscle guy or mule inside for a year. This may not be the best match, but it is better than Yi and Boone.

by Yao on Jan 9, 2010 9:12 AM EST reply actions

Nets tried to get Humphries when he was with Toronto.

Still dont know what else are sending the Mavs. Deal is structured in two pieces: Najera for Humphries and Shawne Williams for $2.46 million of the trade exception and…
You have to send something—cash, draft pick, swap of picks, draft rights—beyond the exception. In the Quinn deal, it was the ridiculously protected 2010 second round pick. I should also note the Nets have more picks the next three years than any NBA team…and the Mavs have the fewest. Wouldnt be surprised if that newly acquired pick from the Heat goes west.

WTF? So we are trying to unload good vets to free up roster space and bring in DLeague scrubs???? Give me a break. I guess they really do want to finish with the worst record. KD, Josh, Trent, those are solid vets who play hard and help those kids. I think KD and Josh are gone for sure. Apparently, they want to move Josh to “save money”, LOL. Old Russian proverb; “Don’t put new wine into old bottles”.

I think Nets management has decided having so many young players starting, and veterans sitting on the bench, has not worked well for team chemistry.

I think they will get rid of the vets and acquire more young talent. Better for team chemistry in long run.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 10:39 AM EST reply actions

Are future veterans will probably be in the starting rotation anyway, thru free angency and/or trade.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 10:42 AM EST reply actions

Glad to see Sean go. For all of you who say he was never given a chance, I wonder whether you know that the Nets have this thing called “practice” where the coaches have the players run through plays and see how they are developing.

Not sure about Eddie. He never really played here, so I wonder what the Mavs think they are getting from him.

I don’t know what the Nets will do about Devin. We can’t count on winning the lottery, so we can’t trade him now. But he’s playing incredibly uninspired ball and I think Kiki lost him within the first game of his coaching stint.

At this point, even if there is just a bunch of churn for equivalent type players, it at least gives us something to talk about and be excited about. Certainly can’t be excited about our record.

I, for one, believe the NETS are going to regret releasing Sean Williams. Regardless of his youth, the team never gave this guy a chance to show his true skills and mark my words it will come back to haunt them. Some team is going to give him a chance and he will shine when given that opportunity.

The only way the Nets will regret releasing Sean is if he comes to the front office and destroys all their pc monitors. Maybe the reason for the Shawne Williams cut is that Sean will be momentarily confused thinking it was the other Williams that was cut.

LMAO. It will probably take SWAT several days of confusion to figure out what went down. He probably will still come to practice and not know the difference.

I was watching Sean during a timeout a few games back. There was a promo on the Tron showing several of the Nets in animation. Sean stood with his head tilted to one side on his hand watching it and laughing.

The Chinese then “write in vote” him into the NBA all-star game.

So i havent been on here in a few days or kept up, but this is fantastic. No more Najera, this is a good day. I’m suprised anyone would trade for him at this point. I would have been happy trading him for a bag of cheetos let alone a back up power forward who can actually play a little.

Humphries is easily better then any big we have or had on the bench in a while. Now we need a big back-up center for Lopez and we can get rid of Boone who looks like he gets worse with every game he plays.

by Boomdog on Jan 9, 2010 11:36 AM EST reply actions

Swats probably sad that his 2 year vacation is coming to an end. He probably tells his coach that he watches alot of tape and goes home, lights up his bong and tells his friends he watched a good comedy, the Net game. If I was his friend, I’d tell him to clean up in China and play for them, win over a billion fans with a few wins over India and Australia and hire Fagan. Then you could come back to the NBA, dictate where you want to play but make sure the owner is broke and even if you suck and lose all the time, those fans in China will keep you employed. If you don’t suck, you’ll be right next to LeBron with a max contract and a global fan base.

It is absolutely pathetic that the Nets are letting Sean go without giving him a chance – especially with absolute garbage collection we have at the power forward position. Other than Yi, due to his occasional offense no other PF should be getting minutes ahead of Sean on this team. At least he brings SOMETHING to the table.

This organization flat-out sucks at everything now.

If JKidd tells Mark Cuban that he can make SWat into a good player, then don’t count out his being picked up by Dallas.

I don’t think the felony charge amounts to anything that cause SWat to miss any games.

Afterall, wasn’t Mark Cuban’s charges more serious (insider trading) and is still being appealed by the Feds? That is why I hope Proky pushes for NBA approval ASAP, because its apparently much harder to remove an owner than to delay one from getting approved.

SWat’s problem is that he makes too many mistakes. He definitely has a “role” defending in the paint – causes lots of players to “alter” shots even if he doesn’t block them. However he can’t defend the perimeter. His offense inside of 8 feet is adequate. With his long arms, he had one of the best Nets dunks ever, recently, reaching out from 7 feet from the basket.

I don’t know anything about the locker room problems with SWat, but then I don’t respect Mark Stein’s anti-Nets reporting. SWat seems great on the bench, but just doesn’t have a serious attitude.

by jerry25 on Jan 9, 2010 11:49 AM EST reply actions

I’m glad this is official. Najera’s best days are behind him. We were hoping to get the player that he was back in Dallas, but that’s their problem again. Humphries should help on the boards

If Swat has that much skill and “potential”, 29 NBA teams will be lining up to get him… I doubt that will be the case.

@jerry25
If he is convicted or pleads guilty, he WILL be suspended and since we are talking about violence, he will be suspended by more than a few…and why after dumping Shawne Williams would Cuban bring in Sean Williams, who the Nets were desperate to get rid of.

@Andy
The TE is now down to $1.31 million. Joe Alexander makes $2.58 million. Boone makes $2.06 million. It’s VERY close as to whether that would under CBA.

by Net Income on Jan 9, 2010 11:54 AM EST reply actions

I don’t think Swat is being cut by the Nets strictly on his playing abilities or lack of them.

He is a major “head case” and they don’t need the headaches.

There is probably a lot going on “behind the scenes” which we are not privy to.

There is no place for him on the Nets. Maybe he will blossom somewhere else… who cares…. Adios, goodbye, farewell…

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 11:59 AM EST reply actions

You can’t combine trade exemptions with players right. It would have to be two seperate trades if Milwaukee wanted our trade exemption. In any case, I think Boone for Alexander does work straight up as long as Nets were willing to take on a little additional salary this season.

Humphries reminds me of a poor man’s Blake Griffin, which could be an indicator that Griffin will be a flop too.

Afterall, Humphries was #14 pick of the 2004 draft and Griffin, #1 of a bad draft class, and has turned out to be
injury prone.

More Humphries interviews (he likes to talk):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uymtZUpj7hM&NR=1

Humphries is said to be a poor FT shooter, but when I looked at his numbers since his first 2 year, especially 2007-8, when he had lots of attempts, I expect him to be close to 65% (if he gets big minutes). Compared to Boone, this is great.

I’ll bet there will be a plea bargain agreement to lesser charges with SWat.
I thought there was some story to that affect way back.

Cuban has experience going back to Dennis Rodman. All Rodman did was watch cartoons when Dennis stayed at his home. Same mentality as SWat.

If SWat wasn’t a problem in locker room, and roster spot was open with Kidd willing, I could see it as a low risk opportunity. But of course its not likely to happen as Mavs can wait for other options to develop.

DRAFT PICK ALERT:

Derrick Favors and Georgia Tech today at 2PM on ESPN!

Nets likely won’t get the 1st pick and The Great Wall.
Favors may be Nets pick, although I haven’t seen him play yet, this year.

Favors reminds me of Amare from his videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99Od-U5IF4s

I wonder if he could be a backup Center (is he still growing?)

If it becomes a choice of Favors via draft or DLee via free agency, either way, Yi is playing no more than 25 mpg next year.

for guys who fail to understand Cuban’s reluctance to pay, it simple just because he has doesn’t mean he wishes to give away he would rather donate than pay a loser undeserving guy like Shawne Williams, letting Kris go is what is buying him the other part I see that as a very good move for both teams.

A note to all veterans who are complaining and the rookie who is acting as if he deserves minutes all of these guys need to take a look at Hassel, in his minnesota days he was one of the best defender’s in the league when he was acquired by our team his role was not guaranteed further in his position we have the most competition yet he has forced
his way into rotation under two coaches, the team plays much better when he is on court no question about it. In a lost cause when the coaches try to go over video sessions they need to be able to show how a mistake committed could have been avoided he is able to provide them with that footage. Professionalism and maximizing talent are virtues that guys like Boone, Swill and Simmons can learn to salvage what remains of thier careers, but more importantly Twill needs to learn that. 60 players are drafted every year before he knows he will be out of this league time is short and opportunities are few he better learn them fast.

How is everyone labeling Blake Griffin an injury prone bust when he’s had 1 injury? Sure it’s a big one but that hardly counts as “prone” E. Blake Griffin averaged 22 and 14 in college and destroyed the competition in summer league. I think he’ll be fine.

I thought I saw a poster write that Swats legal issue was resolved but I could not come up with any proof. I believe when it is resolve with law enforecement and the league his opportunities and value will increase. Of course like all players (except for big time) he’ll have to prove himself on and off the court and with a low risk high reward possibilty people who recognize talent (like Thorn who drafted him) will give him a chance. Most of the stuff that happened with us I just chalk it up to the fact he didn’t want to be here since Kidd left and he didn’t handle it well.

I didn’t say that Griffin could end up at Humphries level; Just that he may end up being a disappointment for a #1 pick in a poor draft, just as Humphries has become a disappointment for a #14 pick.

Griffin WAS impressive in preseason.
However, if Griffin does have more injuries, then all the Nets fans who were begging for Griffin last June will be glad it didn’t work out.

I don’t even hear anyone mentioning Griffin’s name for ROY when he could still dominate for more than 1/2 remaining of year if he plays up to expectations.

Half of the responses are about how “good” Sean Williams is and how the Nets didn’t “give” him a chance. So misguided….Sean Williams made his bed, is sleeping in it, and he won’t be getting out of that bed either. He’s curled up in that bed with lots of money he never earned.

Marc Stein of ESPN is a Nets-hating jerk.

He wrote that Nets were shopping ….. so that they could “open up roster spots for fresh blood from the D-League”.

Regarding getting rid of Dooling:
Both Dooling and expecially CLee were great last night (where are the CLee haters?).

I don’t doubt that Nets shopped Dooling. However, after getting rid of Alston, then I see no reason to continue to shop Dooling (other than that other teams would be requesting him).

Nets can always buy out Dooling for $500,000 so why in the world would they actively look to move him without getting something really good in return? Who else would be the Nets backup primary PG for remainder of this year (or next year if they don’t get Wall?).

Yes, Stein is a jerk who has no problem to cite outdated news to make it seem like it is current. Our own DaveD is MUCH more dependable as he broke the latest on Humphries story.

NI was wrong about this one because he earlier predicted that there was more chance to trade Dooling before Alston, even though Dooling was coming off surgery. Alston apparently was a problem in the locker room.

by jerry25 on Jan 9, 2010 1:22 PM EST reply actions

The reason it could be Donatas Motiejunas is obvious. An international player for an international team plus Proky does something for his part of the world.

Donatas Motiejunas is also considered a very talented prospect, 7 footer, who plays center and PF and who is rising in many mock drafts, top five pick in many.

He’s my pick as of now. We will find out in 166 days.

by Mike on Jan 9, 2010 1:36 PM EST reply actions

We better hope that we get the top pick and Wall. Not sure that Monroe, Favors, Davis, etc are going to be top tier NBA 4s. At least not early on. I would rather see us use that Dallas pick on a hopefully dropping DeMarcus Cousins and play him with Wall….

This Humphries trade is nice. Dumping Najera was a great move. Signing him was the biggest bonehead move we ever made. Maybe we should start a THANK YOU CUBAN chant again for taking the worst player in the league off our hands.

I really do hope that we keep Boone. I think he could be a decent piece of the future of this team off the bench.

And I would really like to see us make a play at getting Joe Alexander – who Milwaukee clearly has no need for.

And if anyone believes the NBA corruption stories regarding who wins the lottery, David Stern might have a real incentive to make sure the Nets (worst team in the NBA) end up with the top pick to pair Brook Lopez and John Wall in Brooklyn. Give Brooklyn the top young PG/Center nucleus in the game. Imagine the marketing opportunities for the league and the new team in Brooklyn.

by Ryan243 on Jan 9, 2010 1:46 PM EST reply actions

It’s scientifically impossible to rig the lottery. There is security and team representatives in the room when the drawing is done. The reason that it’s not done on live tv is because it would be incredibly boring. All the balls being thrown out because they match a team that has already been drawn would make for bad tv and then the critics who complain about it not being on live tv now would be complaining about what a pathetic, non ratings grabber for the league it is when it’s actually on. Catch 22 all the way.

The question I have for NI or NetsDaily is whether by this deal are the Nets taking on new salary due to S. Williams’ 2.4 million salary?

If the Nets ARE taking on new salary does that mean that any trade with Ratner in control (according to the NBA) will be allowed, even before Proky is approved? This is important.

Does use of the trade exception to take S. Williams mean that the Nets are under the salary cap? and by how much?

All of this could affect Nets making another trade before Proky takes over, especially if Nets are under salary cap and still have 10 draft picks as assets.

@Pugsley – this is the Nets man. No such thing as (the lowest possible pick we could end up with would be #4) haha. if its possible for it to be screwed up – its possible with the Nets.

I just watched Damion James grab a 1 handed rebound, push the ball up the court, split 2 defenders and dish to a cutter on the left block. I have watched this kid play since his freshman season (he was a frosh with Durant) during the preseason Coaches vs Cancer tourney at the Garden. He is a great player. Leading rebounder in Texas history. 3rd all time in double doubles with 44 (with another in the making today) and 11th all time in scoring. This kid is undersized but is a player.

I see him as a more versatile Paul Millsap. If we got him in the 2nd round you guys would not be disappointed. My favorite 2nd rounder last year was Meeks (to the point people on here were asking if I was his agent). My top get in the 2nd round this year is Damion James. He is exactly the type of player this team needs on their bench. Plus he is a 4 year college player – which I think is always beneficial in rotation guys.

And agree with Pugsley on Montiejunas. I have never seen him play – but most European guys take at least 1 season, usually 2-3 to develop in the NBA. We can not afford to do that with our first round pick this year.

I expect Kiki will be playing Battie exclusively as BLopez’ backup. Battie is too slow to use as PF, anyway, and I wish he would stop shooting from beyond 10 feet.

I assume if Boone is being shopped, its for another Big.
Boone would be Okay if he would play as well when given limited minutes and also if he improved to be a consistent 50% FT shooter (instead of 30%). I don’t see either happening.

Nets will have to throw in a draft pick to interest another team. Not sure what is the purpose to move Boone if he is expiring anyway, unless Nets can get back a decent Rookie contract to keep.

He was the second best player on the floor, after Wall…and that included Xavier Henry, John Hensen, Avery Bradley, DeMarcus Cousins and the dreadful Renardo Sidney.
He not played well. He led the team and hit clutch free throws at the end.

He is very thin and is having a harder time in Europe than expected, but he reminds a lot of people of Toni Kukoc.

Again, I didn’t say that Dooling would be first to go. Never said that. What I said is that Dooling has that $500,000 guarantee and if the Nets want to maximize their cap space, it would be smarter to dump Dooling. I like Dooling, but 1) his contract next season is $3.82 million. That’s 15% of the Nets cap space. 2) HE has said that some days he feels better than others and that he doesn’t expect to be back to full power til next season and 3) he underwent surgery for an arthritic hip joint. That’s serious for a 30 year old…as Dooling himself said, “very serious”.

Personally I would draft best player available. But Nets will try to address C/PF position and Motiejunas plays both.
Big men are hard to find. Little guys are a dime a dozen…

Plus Proky probably knows more about Motiejunas then he knows about all the college players in the NBA combined.

Added plus, Motiejunas most likely speaks Russian, like most people in Lithuania.

It’s important to look at ages when evaluating prospects as many players enter college older than you would think.

Favors and Henry are 18
Wall, Cousins and Motiejunas are 19
Davis and Warren are 20
Aldrich and Turner are 21
Wesley Johnson is 22

Favors and Henry are much better players as 18 yr old freshman than Aldrich and Turner were as 19 yr old freshman.

this news of najera for humphries made my day!
its funny 2 hear ppl say that SWAT wasnt given the opportunity to play 2 his potential.. he was n fouled out in 5 mins
As for 13yr old nets fan trade proposal:even thinking that the blazers would consider taking boone for Batum n Rudy is just crazy

Humphries is a good opponent comparison to Sean Williams.

We always like to draft a guy with “promising” potential, which is not always reliable. Sean Williams is very athletic, but he is very poor at skills.

Humphries is not as athletic as Sean, but he is much more skilled, and he can give you 8 points a night in 20 minutes, and does some dirty works.

He is not promising, but he will help you win games off the bench.

njn908,

I know…but maybe they get so weak up front cuz of injuries there forced to get a big man and boone is the onnyone available. i know its a strectch but…

I say a big trade including harris. The guy has got to go. We need a pass first point guard, not a selfish shoot and miss one. He has no type of shot and he’s always injured. After dooling’s showing last night he should be starting. Kiki should’ve never taken him out and put harris in.

Regarding Humphries and free agency, the trade raises the possibility of a significant increase in cap space. Humphries is due to make $3.2 million next season, BUT he has a player option.

As of now, the Nets have $24.9 million in cap space, assuming a $56 million salary cap. If Humphries opts out, that puts the number at $28 million. If the Nets dump Dooling, add another $500,000. His buyout is that much. The number is also affected by the salary of the draft picks…but not by much.

It’s unlikely Humphries will opt out, of course…but before that deal, there was no possibility.

Harris is a 2, we should never have brought back C Lee. We lost Anderson to do it. Bad move.

Nice. Humphries is a nic rbounder that the nets could sure use…
Najera was always injured… glad we made this move

Harris disappoints people, imagine if Lopez has CP3.

Just look at the picture of Humprhies and above that of skinny, little Yi. Wow, if we could meld these two into one player, we’d have something!

by Yao on Jan 10, 2010 12:03 PM EST reply actions

I think we already have something in Yi.

i dont think we should move harris until Wall is a sure thing, Harris contract isnt even that big so i dont mind him, its not like hes making McGrady money or something
