Nets' Top Priority is Twin Towers

Brook Lopez and Yi Jianlian didn't have the best of nights Friday. Lopez had 14 and 9, but shot 5-14. Yi had his second straight double-digit rebound game, but scored only nine and shot 4-10. Yet, the development of the two seven-footers is now the team's top priority. "I think what we’d like to get to is get a really good high-low game going," the coach said. "That’s something that doesn’t happen overnight."

What high-low game when our stupid PG just dribbles and jack it up whenever he feels like it. Regardless of being hot or cold. Kik number 1 priority is to get a real PG.

Hey Brook, Why are always shaking your head on court? I consider you as the next Timmy. Don’t be like a baby. You will influent the others.Yi did not have any low post, drive to the rim tonight, 1-5 when Brook was on court, 3-5 when Brook was out. What happen to these two big guys? Both of them have no spirit on floor. Come on! You 2 are the only hope encouraging me to watch the game.

@skaye

Yi has to go back to shooting perimeter again cause it doesnt looks like its gonna work…

by Akara on Jan 9, 2010 1:04 AM EST reply actions

I hope things work out both yi and lopez on the floor same time… I was hoping to see yi drive by west tonight but never happen…yi was mostly perimeter tonight…that was a niceblock and a big dunk by yi tho…

by Akara on Jan 9, 2010 1:12 AM EST reply actions

Yi and Lopez are the only skillful tall guys in NETS, who can play on court. They are NETS future!
If NETS keeps doing 1 tall + 4 short on court, no future at all. NETS must figure out a way how to play these two guys at same time on court.
These two tall guys are complementary to each other. One is strong but a little slow, One is athletic fast moving but soft under hoop. One likes to shoot inside paint, one likes to shoot near 3 points.
Same thing is both of them are kids, too young!

by fplc on Jan 9, 2010 2:12 AM EST reply actions

Lopez and Yi should help each other. If Yi only play perimeter, no future to Yi, lost to NETS, a risk to Lopez too (easy to defense Lopez under hoop).

Lopez complainted Yi taking his space last game with Hawks did not get the point! The real problem to NETS is PG on court: how and when to “distribute” properly these two guys!

by fplc on Jan 9, 2010 2:22 AM EST reply actions

The two bigs can definitely work together but it will take some time and clever coaching. Brook is a bit stronger at the post while Yi is much more mobile. Yi can shoot better from most spots. So when Brook gets double teamed, Yi will drive inside. Of course we also need good perimeter shooting from the guards, like tonite. If not for the refs, the nets would have a chnace to beat the hornets. It is couraging when every one is putting in efforts. The nets will be better, just needs some time. As fans, we can forget about making accusations on individual players.

Yes, we need to find a way to get shots for Brook AND Yi, but LEE’s breakout game last night should remind folks that he is a very good second year player with lots of upside too. Give Hayes a few more games to get his legs, and our roster is 100% healthy and maybe we win 5 or 6 games during the second half of the season. Seriously, I would be delirious if we had ten wins by year end, and gotten rid of SEAN also! Is Kris Humphries better than Boone? Are Hebrew National hot dogs kosher? Do Mrs. Paul’s hands smell from fish? I need to sleep, but can’t relax, we got robbed tonight by the refs.

Some people interpreted Brook’s frustrations as complaining about his touches. It’s purely speculation. Brook himself said that he was just mad at himself. On a young losing team, we absolutely have no place for this kind of distraction. Young players should be very careful in handling the media and they say. T will and CDR should have learned their lessons. Any misinterpreted outbursts would do damages to the team unity. Somebody like Kobe may get away with it. But we don’t have a “Kobe” on our team yet. As a nets fan, we would all love to see the twin towers succeed. The better BOTH Brook and Yi play, the better chance we have to win.

by bill on Jan 9, 2010 4:06 AM EST reply actions

Lopez will not change before the game to complain about, just to see the Nets used a lineup a senior at a small bar when you play more rotten. The fact that we only use the twin towers and tactics in order to rival the greatest attack. Therefore, only Lopez and Yito work together, we have a future

by flash2 on Jan 9, 2010 4:41 AM EST reply actions

Bad priority. This will delay Lopez. Yi is not the player to build around. Lopez is. Compliment Lopez with a muscle player who does not demand the ball. I could not believe how many plays were called for Yi last night, even as N.O. was prepared for it and closing off most options. Kiki kept going back to it again and again. Where is Harris? Priority: Harris and Lopez.

by Yao on Jan 9, 2010 9:17 AM EST reply actions

Yep, Yi was the real focus of the offense against the Hornets…….. with a whopping 2 FGA in the 2nd half and one of them was a tip in attempt I believe. If the priority is to get these two players to learn to play together, then there was little evidence of that last night. In fact it look like Yi was pulled early in the 1st and 3rd quarter just so Lopez could get his shots.

To the fans who complain about Yi’s lack of assist. The NBA has never handed out assist for simply making a pass. How about some of the Nets perimeter player make some open shots instead of bricking it when Yi kicks the ball back out to them for wide open looks?

by Tang Man on Jan 9, 2010 9:52 AM EST reply actions

get a real PG? you mean someone like rafer alston? Paul or Nash isn’t coming into town.

by jason on Jan 9, 2010 11:02 AM EST reply actions

At some point, probably soon, they are going to need to focus on Lopez who is unarguably a future All – star center. Yi is and may always be, questionable. I agree it would be best to get a muscle PF, bring Yi off the bench for offense and move forward. This may not happen until next year obviously but do not waste this opportunity to continue to develop Brook, his game and confidence.

by mo on Jan 9, 2010 11:15 AM EST reply actions

We need 5 good players on floor, players and coaches both have to adjust its a learning and understanding process maximize the benefits and reduce the negatives. This is a good year to do this. FA’s or not I like our team, I don’t believe neither players nor coaches / management have any long term concern with this issue

by Sunil on Jan 9, 2010 12:25 PM EST reply actions

YI IS BACK!!
i believe in him

by netsfan91 on Jan 9, 2010 1:22 PM EST reply actions

@Skaye

Yi did not have any low post, drive to the rim tonight, because Lopez said:"Yeah, I think it’s just been a tough adjustment having another post guy out there – reading when and where he is, and where I need to be, I guess,"

by italianice on Jan 9, 2010 4:54 PM EST reply actions

Yup,Yi gave Brook the space and the shots tonite….5-14. Not exactly dominating. The reason we were in the game becuase Lee and Dooling were hitting 3’s. B ball is ateam thing. No one should complain about not getting enough touches.
