Nets Ban Gambling on Team Flights

The Wizards' locker room gun situation began with a game of bourré on a team flight, and gambling among players is an acknowledged problem across the NBA. So Rod Thorn and Bruce Ratner got together and decided to ban gambling on the team plane. Thorn says that the Nets have never had a problem with gambling, but "Why take a chance on something like that happening?" Players don't seem to mind.

Pretty soon their going to be checking the opposing team coming into the Izod center instead of checking the fans. Id say check our NETS too but we don’t pack any heat or intimidation so.

I think the REAL news here is that this cheap team of ours still has it’s own plane.

Gambling will no longer be permitted in any NBA facility, bus or plane. Smart move by Commissioner Stern.

Damn I didn’t even think of that. But it is true, I would have thought they traveled around on the Tropic’s bus from the movie Semi-Pro…..E.L.E….Everybody Love Everybody…EVERYBODY LOVE EVERYBODY!

matt, try reading the story again…
“There are indications that the N.B.A. is now considering new gambling restrictions for players. One team has already acted. On Wednesday, the Nets informed players that gambling was no longer permitted on team flights.”

LOL I pictured the whole team carpooling in Trenton Hassell’s winebago, betting on a game of Uno between Yi and TWill.

Jay Leno tonight…
AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD THE NBA HAS SUSPENDED GILBERT ARENAS INDEFINITELY, WITHOUT PAY, FOR BRINGING GUNS INTO AN NBA ARENA. THEN TODAY, THE NBA LOOKED AT THE NEW JERSEY NETS ROSTER AND SUSPENDED ALL OF THEM FOR HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS AT ALL.

Maybe now the nets can focus on playing… No more gambling… They can spend the extra time talking about the game.

or perhaps chatting about the newest paella recipe…one with more spices or their investment strategies or whether CDR’s latest tatoo—the one with the footnotes—is a good thing or a bad thing…ANYTHING other than being 3-33.

Guns in the Nets’ locker room? Suicide pact rather than gambling dispute one would suspect….

This is old news and I am confused. I think “playing defense” and “hitting open shots” must also have been banned. 3-33 with no signs of progress on the defensive end. Maybe Sean can lead practices with a drill based on throwing PCs at store clerks in malls? This builds reflexes and upper forearm muscles… We just looked awful in the last game. I am disgusted.

How about the Nets talk about something in the airplane that can help the team win… Such as putting the ball in the basket oooooooooooooor playing defense and not looking like you got your head up your aaass…. But then again trying alone doesn’t really do it in the NBA… There is absolutely no Talent on this team…

Good move by Stern. Hate to see these young guys with short careers getting into high stakes games where they can blow a year’s savings in a plane trip.

It’s nuts to permit such high stakes games when the league is just getting over a betting scandal. Gambling is an addiction as much as alcohol or drugs or tobacco.

Ratner – oh please. His entire real estate dream which would include stealing the Nets from its fans was and is a gamble. Moral lessons from him are absolutely laughable.

I “bet” the players union would object, until now.
A few knucleheads ruin it for everybody. Just like in real life. LOL

If they were smart they would bet against themselves.
