Arenas Obscuring NBA Players' Good Works

In July 2007, Richard Jefferson announced he was giving $3.5 million to his alma mater for a new practice facility. Later in July, Vince Carter announced he was giving $1.6 million to build a drug and alcohol addiction center. Not one word appeared in the local press about either. With Gilbert Arenas suspended indefinitely on gun charges, there's likely to be a more bad publicity obscuring players' good works.

that’s funny how RJ and VC, these 2 shining examples of philanthropy and good works, are no longer Nets.

Four Nets have foundations: Harris, Hayes, Simmons and Najera.
What is disturbing about JohnY’s comment is that if he had taken the time to click on the first link to the item, he would have found information on the type of community involvement Harris has been involved in. So I doubt he has clicked on the link to 34waystoassist.org.
For those interested, NetsDaily has a category for community work, where you can find various stories on what team personnel have done over the years.

Devin Harris is still a chump, unless he shows he’s a franchise player or a leader on this team.

Great. Now because of Agent Zero, we’ll have to see more of the NBA filming it’s charity works. Filming charity work bothers me. If you really care about the community then your not making sure you have the cameras on.
As far as the league and perception goes, Mike Francesa made a good point, saying the league only gets big parts of the headlines when we have a rogue official or a player gets caught with a gun. It’s always negative press.

@ Sami
Did you see the story on here a few weeks ago with Boone and Lopez at the Children’s Hospital… Boone bought the gifts, brought Lopez with him, and didn’t bring a camera (supposedly it was filmed by the hospital at the hospital’s
desire)
@ JohnY
Maybe on the court, but he’s still a good guy. Credit that.

does anyone remember that Gilbert Arenas made fun of RJ’s donation: http://dimemag.com/2008/07/gilbert-arenas-is-laughing-at-richard-jefferson/

@Paul B
Honestly I did not. And It’s not that I’m saying players don’t care, It’s more directed at the league.

“Gimmee some truth”, we all know they are tax write offs…
Why pretend. I live in NYC and the next time I see an NBA basketball player on the “street”, will be the first time.
