Hayes Expected Back Tuesday...for Real

There have been a few false starts for Jarvis Hayes as he has tried to rev up his engine for a return. After 11 weeks and 32 games, it looks like he will back in uniform Tuesday vs. the Bucks. Hayes has said Yi Jianlian's quick return has given him confidence, but he's likely to be used in short bursts at first. That leaves only Eduardo Najera (back) out. Meanwhile, Rafer Alston wonders where he's headed.

I think that Raphel Alston is by far the best third choice point guard in the NBA. He would be a backup point guard on any other team in the league (perhaps with the exception of Orlando) and even a starter in some. He should be traded to a good team (maybe the Lakers, Hawks, Mavs, Celtics, Suns) for an expiring contract, or maybe a first round pick.

He’s a good player, and the Nets can get value from team who would benefit from a backup pg of his caliber.

now we can start to see what this team is really about. After allstar break we should be playing at a higher level.

Do I smell a trade involving alston in the near future?

by Andy on Jan 4, 2010 4:49 PM EST reply actions

get a great PF if we make a trade this yr…That will help get Lebron….

Hayes always seems very old for a guy who is only 29…

He looks old and plays old…

Nice situational player though…

Plus he body wise and facially, resembles V.C.

I wouldn’t resign him, unless real cheap…

well, they tried to trade Alston last week.

by Net Income on Jan 4, 2010 5:29 PM EST reply actions

I hope we trade Alston soon… The only other PGs I can think of on the block are Nate Rob and Andre Miller… Nate’s back as the Knicks’ energy boost after that 40+ point game and Miller’s contract is too big for a back up, and nobody seems to really need him. I have my fingers crossed that a potential playoff team will end up with an injured PG, panic and trade their 1st rounder for Alston, then not make the playoffs anyway… Hear me Deron Williams??? Break a leg out there… Really.

WOW @ JB.

How come all the players the Nets draft or trade for, look like they are going for root canal…

“Is there anybody alive out there?”

What we need is a spark plug… CDR is an old rocking chair…

@JB

I’ve been saying/hoping all year that the Nets were able to deal Alston to a playoff contender in need of a PG for their 1st round pick. I hope we are able to do the same with Battie and Najera (even those guys probably only warrant 2nd round picks at best). Either way – if we can unload expiring contracts for draft picks – that is a step in the right direction for a rebuilding team.

I would love to see us take some chances in the 2nd round with guys like Damion James (Texas), Solomon Alabi (FSU), Lance Stephensen (cincy) and be poised to take the sure fire first rounder who falls into the 2nd round (happens every single year) – as our 2nd rounder should be a top 3 pick.

Hitting a double on a second round pick is oftentimes the difference between winning and losing teams. Imagine where we would be without CDR…0 for the season???

by Ryan243 on Jan 4, 2010 8:15 PM EST reply actions

Solomon Alabi is not a 2nd round pick. He’s a sophmore. Either he goes in the lottery as a project pick or he stays at fsu.

by kevin on Jan 4, 2010 8:35 PM EST reply actions

This is a deep draft. Alabi has not had a monster year. He is very very raw. There are always project bigs who fall. And after the lack of impact of Thabeet this year – teams may be less likely to go project early in the 1st.

omG hayes out for the season!!!

on the note on C Lee’s shooting slump, especially on the road: All season, Lee has been off on his shooting. Its not because defenders have keyed in on him because they havent – havent had to. His drives have been ok. He threw some bad, bad passes. I watched him with Orlando last year. He is a better player than we’ve seen. What’s the problem? He says he’s in a slump, working on it. He even played with same guard, Skip, and I don’t think he shot much better than w/ Harris, Dooling, TWill.

by Pigdaddy on Jan 5, 2010 12:16 AM EST reply actions

CDR bashing is getting old real quick… there’s really no need to bash him since he’s the best player we’ve got so far.

People see the negative comments about CDR and nobody even commented anything about it (until now), which only means it’s getting way overblown and non-sense… get it?……….. Thank you…

by TaUBeaVis on Jan 5, 2010 3:37 AM EST reply actions

I too have been saying all season that Alston has value to a contender and is best chance to be traded once Dooling is healthy.

Yes, Nets fans should be hoping for an injury to a PG such as injury prone Jameer Nelson.

It may take a 3rd team to make it work. Nets should aim to bring back a reserve Physical Big Man (with a reasonable contract) who would be a Keeper. Nets have more flexibility than other teams, because they can give expiring contracts and also take back an expiring contract that would just sit on bench.

For those concerned that it would be Bad for Nets to get better (in terms of draft), I wouldn’t worry about that.
Even if Nets played 500, they would only have about 27 wins.

Worst or 2nd worst record is almost the same; Besides, Nets will need to prove something to get any decent FA to come.

Courtney’s troubles were spotlighted on netsarescorching.com in detail. His form is erratic from shot to shot in a nutshell and he is trying to work back into form.

by kg on Jan 5, 2010 7:00 AM EST reply actions

welcome back, Jarvis, we’ve been missing you!

by Andrés on Jan 5, 2010 7:30 AM EST reply actions

@kg – thanks for pointing out netsarescorching’s thoughtful courtney article. CLee’s slump is a factor, goes along with the injuries, the many young players, the fact that these guys have not played together much, all together this is part of…the Nets’ excuse! I mean, it explains some of the troubles we’ve had. I expect Courtney to look better later this year.
And again, I predict .500 ball after the AS break. I don’t CONFIDENTLY predict it but I predict it.
