Bucher: Lakers Couldn't Get Harris

Rod Thorn has said it's "very, very unlikely" the Nets will trade Devin Harris. Now, Ric Bucher who first reported the Lakers' interest in Harris has written on his Twitter page: "to be clear, they can't get Devin. They inquired, that was it." Bucher added, "I reported it as a reflection of LAL mindset, not because it was happening." According to one report, the Lakers offered Jordan Farmar and Adam Morrison.

ha I needed a good laugh after the horrible performances by the Nets and Devils tonight. At least Edge came back.

Lol they could lie Thorn if they added Mbenga too hahahahahah … Kupchak is a moron …

Really? Awww. Isn’t that just too bad.
I guess Sasha Vujacic wasn’t getting it done, huh Lakers fans?
by TWilliAM on Jan 31, 2010 10:57 PM EST reply actions
The Lakers always want to rob quality players like what they did to get Pau Gasol.
I know Harris is not that good this season, but no way we trade him to Lakers for some scrubs.

knowing thorn he would of thrown in t-will as well like how he threw in ryan anderson along w. vc. what was that all about anyhow..

Are they kidding – Farmar and Morrison. That’s an embarassment. Honestly I would accept Farmar and Shannon Brown (maybe) but it would have to be 2 good players.
But in reality, do you guys think they will trade Devin in any other circumstance besides getting Wall in the draft?
by Alex F on Jan 31, 2010 11:10 PM EST reply actions
@ Alex F
No. They would only trade Devin if they get Wall. Even if they get wall, they won’t trade Devin that fast.

“…According to one report, the Lakers offered Jordan Farmar and Adam Morrison…”
The Art of the Low-ball Offer. Take notes guys.

Things are different with Proky behind Thorn, instead of Ratner.
by jerry25 on Jan 31, 2010 11:16 PM EST reply actions
LMAO MORRISON AND FARMAR? Are the lakers kidding they needa come back to earth.
by ZHAS on Jan 31, 2010 11:42 PM EST reply actions
Well the NETS would only take offers like that if they wanted to dump Harris’s salary. That would only be if LBJ and Wade or Bosh have made a deal with the NETS wink wink all ready which hasn’t happened.
Clearly Devin is a) hurt and b) does not care about this season. A renewed lease on life (new owner, arena, coach, draft, free agents) changes things. He is far more likely the player we saw last year than this.
No way they trade him unless they get a big man, even if they get wall. Wall and Harris together is lightning. Wall could guard the bigger twos in the league
by supernetsfan on Jan 31, 2010 11:45 PM EST reply actions
Devin needs to go, period. He will always be a self-centered, effort-lacking fraud. Any trade would open up cap space, allow Thorn to pick up Dooling’s option – You know, the pg who TRIES ON DEFENSE – and would be a classic case of addition by subtraction.
by Arvid on Jan 31, 2010 11:58 PM EST reply actions
lol, even as poor as devin has been, farmar + morrison is just ridiculous. we’d be better off keeping him. glad the nets didnt take that offer seriously.
by sonny on Feb 1, 2010 12:10 AM EST reply actions
What did you expect to be offered, Gasol or maybe Kobe???
by Adam on Feb 1, 2010 12:13 AM EST reply actions
That’s utterly RIDICULOUS!!!
Devin for Farmar and Morrison?!?!?!?!
Get outta here with that! The lakers must be stupid to even offer that!
by JayMS on Feb 1, 2010 12:14 AM EST reply actions
Devin should only be considered in trades if/after we get Wall, and even then we should make sure we get the most out of the trade!
by JayMS on Feb 1, 2010 12:16 AM EST reply actions
“What did you expect to be offered, Gasol or maybe Kobe?”
I expect to be offered something of substance by a team in position to offer it.
As long as the Lakers were interested, I expected the Nets to get ripped off.
by TWilliAM on Feb 1, 2010 12:17 AM EST reply actions
TWilliam,
Substance? Let me know who you think would be equivalent in return for Devin H….I get the sense that you still believe Harris is an All Star player.
by Adam on Feb 1, 2010 12:29 AM EST reply actions
This is very funny! Farmar and Morrison? At lest give Fisher pls.
by lol on Feb 1, 2010 12:30 AM EST reply actions
This should not be a surprise. Look at the lakers roster, they have nothing to offer outside their core that they are not trading.
by Kevin on Feb 1, 2010 12:38 AM EST reply actions
Somehow I think that NETS fans believe Gasol or Bynam should have been offered. It is laughable…..
and someone else wanted Fisher…what would we do with him?
by Adam on Feb 1, 2010 12:45 AM EST reply actions
In a way, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but if the Lakers were to substitute Adam “nobody in the history of the NBA has deserved a Championship ring less than him” Morrison for Shannon Brown, I’d be willing to discuss a deal further (if I were Rockin’ Rod, of course lol).
by Rusty on Feb 1, 2010 1:29 AM EST reply actions
Easy.Harris will stay here.
It will be glad to see Harris and Wall play together.
by Kael on Feb 1, 2010 3:22 AM EST reply actions
Devin harris+ another player for Farmar+brown+their pick this year+ future 1st round preferrably their 2014 :)

@ ronnie
Haha, I love your post, I was watching the Rumble too. I’m glad Edge was back but I thought the ending was wayyyy too predictable. Anyway, go Nets!!
by KFranchise on Feb 1, 2010 7:16 AM EST reply actions
i would have taken it. both of their contracts expire at the end of the season and we would have been able 2 pick up another free agent. possible raymond felton in case we wouldn’t b able to get a pg in the draft.
by tu vieja on Feb 1, 2010 8:39 AM EST reply actions
@ tu vieja
Good point. I bet everybody thought the Lakers were trying to give us equal talent. If Proky wasn’t in the future this deal would be more appealing. At this point I think we’re not doing anything unless it benefits the team greatly or doesn’t take cap space.
by Mr. Big on Feb 1, 2010 8:56 AM EST reply actions
The X factor in any Devin trade is the possible 10 million more in cap space it could free up. And we could become the only team in the league capable of handing out two max contracts. Still, you want better talent than Morrison/Farmar. The Lakers just are not good trade partners. They cannot even offer draft picks.
by Chris2 on Feb 1, 2010 9:14 AM EST reply actions
If I were Thorn, I would hold a grudge against L.A. for even offering that.
by Big Tom on Feb 1, 2010 9:28 AM EST reply actions
This obsession with having more cap space is pure nonsense.
Having the ability to offer two max contracts is pointless. Nobody worth it will want to take it. Actually, there’re only 2 player worth a max deal, James and Wade, and guess what, they’re not coming here, neither are other of the top FAs like Bosh, Boozer (who aint worth a max deal- not even close), etc, get real people. We have lots of cap space, there’s no need to lose another good player in order to free up more cap space
This joke of a plan consisting of dumping good player in order to have cap space is what has taken us here, on the verge of becoming the worst team in the history of the game. I hope we learned our lesson. If you think it couldn’t get worse, just wait and see how we end up having to blow up our cap space overspending on Gays and Lees, lol.
by Andres on Feb 1, 2010 9:30 AM EST reply actions
That is an AWFUL offer! Why not just offer us a second round pick in 2016?
by JustinNJ on Feb 1, 2010 9:34 AM EST reply actions
ha Devin is soo bad that if they offered shannon brown i would have done a double take.
by Spider Man on Feb 1, 2010 1:07 PM EST reply actions
@Andres
Would you rather have VC’s 17 million on the books for next year? The dude has totally imploded. How about RJ’s 15 million? He’s a real winner. Kidd forced his way out and we got the most we could for him. None of these players are so great, and I would rather have the worst record in the league and a guaranteed top 4 draft choice than be in the boat of some many other teams that are trapped in mediocrity for so many years. We also have free agent options next year. And I do think being able to recruit the top guys in pairs could make a difference. I don’t mind overspending on a second tier guy if it means attacting a top tier guy. Otherwise be prudent and see what is there on the trade market, where having the most cap space is also a sizable advantage.
by Chris2 on Feb 1, 2010 1:07 PM EST reply actions
Why is everyone discussing this in so much detail, it was an exploratory query by the Lakers to see if they could get a good player on the cheap. Not like this was a serious discussion. If you can get better at no cost then you gotta ask right?
That being said, I’d still like to see what Devin plays like when fully 100% healthy before considering trading him. Sure, his defense has taken a step back, and his shooting has gone kaput. But I’m willing to give him the injury pass for now. Not like we’ve seen him at 100% yet this year. Even if we do get Wall we could keep Devin. Wall’s 6’4" and the most athletic guy to come out in a few years, he could guard shooting guards.
Evan Turner would be pretty awesome too, with wings that have passing mentalities (TWill, Turner), Devin’s score first instinct can work better with the team.
by muwu on Feb 1, 2010 1:19 PM EST reply actions
muwu,
Devin Harris playing 100% healthy..hmmm
-no defense
-bad shots
-ill advised turn overs
-pound the air out of the ball
I’ve seen this act before, and frankly I’m ready to move on.
by Mr. Dollar Bills on Feb 1, 2010 3:59 PM EST reply actions
Harris was just on a hot streak for the first half of last season. Just like Ariza he’ll falter as a primary option, just look @ both of their shooting percentages now.
by Antoine on Feb 1, 2010 4:31 PM EST reply actions
“Harris was just on a hot streak for the first half of last season.”
Harris shoots 45% from the field for his career. That’s hardly terrible, especially since he gets to the line so often.
IMO, Harris has become the pinata for all Nets fans discontent and that’s fine. Bash him all you want if it makes you feel better. But I refuse to make any judgements on a guy who, all evidence suggests, hasn’t been healthy all season on a team that’s been as mismanaged as any in NBA history.
by TWilliAM on Feb 1, 2010 6:42 PM EST reply actions
Devin wasn’t just “on a hot streak”. Last year he had an all-star season, but many people don’t realize that was thanks in large part to VC. Vince took all the pressure off Devin to let him do his thing last year, and now without Vince, Devin is all alone and trying to do it all himself. The defense has been keying on him all year, and he’s been taking a physical and mental beating. I expect him to come back once he’s healthy next year with other offensive threats and play very well.
