Harris "More Hurt Than People Know About"?

Kiki Vandeweghe has hinted about it, that Devin Harris has never fully recovered from his injuries. Now, Marc Stein quotes an NBA scout saying, "[The Nets] will tell you that Harris is more hurt than people know about and I hope that's the case, because he's not playing anywhere near the level he played at last year." The scout says the Nets aren't as bad as their record but "a losing mentality" has set in.

well, I don’t blame Harris or stoop to the idiotic level of calling Harris the next Marbury.
He cannot simply regress to this level just because Vince Carter isn’t around. Carter may not drawing double teams, but Lopez is (and yeah, I know the double teams are in the post, and that clogs the lane for Harris)
I just hope Harris doesn’t pull an Artest and say something along the lines of " I don’t like excuses" when in fact admitting to injury is an excuse…
As long as he allows Kiki for Cuckoo puffs to do all the PR work..

Harriss injuries are constantly nagging him, and that’s the case with many players in this league. If that’s why he’s playing so bad then id rather have him sit out for some time and jsut recover. than hell have no excuse.
and as for the losing mentality, it is true. When uve lost so many games, is ther really anything ot play for?

I still love Devin and hope to keep him on the team when we start to prosper. Last year he showed his true abilities and I believe he will get back to that level with some players around him.
Its a whole season and even more a future for the nets. We suck right now because of a lack of identity. Losing VC was tough but it was time for him to go. He is stinking it up in Orlando along with RA who hasn’t played well as of late. Be patient nets fans. Our time is the future. Get healthy Devin proove all your haters wrong.

That’s bull. If Devin was really injured in this rebuilding year, Kiki or Thorn would not allow him to play hurt for a 3 win team. Devin’s reported injuries this year ran the entire gamut, not just groin. Devin just plain sucks. This is just Nets spin on increasing Devin’s trade value. The good news I glean from this is Devin on the trading block.

If Devin is hurting, than why not sit him for five games till he is better. What’s the harm? It doesn’t mean he is on the trading block, although I think everybody except Brook SHOULD be on the trading block, for the right deal. I still support the KIDD-Devin deal, because we got so much more than Devin, though I am surprised at how well KIDD continues to play at age 109! Sit Devin for ten days, and if/when he is 100% healthy, play him at the 2, with Dooling and Quinn at the point. AND how about signing some better position coaches? We need a really good big man coach for Brook and a former point to coach Devin. I am a big Sam Cassell fan, would love to have someone with his grit sitting on our bench and in our practices.

HAHA last night CARter didnt even play the forth quarter, Redick did! The two possesions when he WAS in, he sucked… Really sucks for the magic. ALso, ESPN put out there that the Nets might put Battie in the stoudemire trade instead of Yi. If that is the case and we make that type of trade, we 100% won the carter deal. Imagine, if the suns were stupid enough:
Lee
Battie
Simmons
Dallas pick
Warriors pick
Cash
for
Stoudemire
that would be great

I think Devin should add some muscle this off-season. Him getting hurt this often wouldn’t happen if he added a little weight. He’s stated he’s never been over 200 pounds in his life but he also looks like he’s never weight trained either. Look at Chris Paul, he’s 5’11 & a shade under 200 pounds yet he recovers from injury much faster than DH because he weight trains now.

It’s stupid of us to keep playing Harris IF he is really injured. It is also stupid of Harris to keep coming back when he’s not fully healed. I said this before, I rather have Harris sit for as long as it is needed for him to heal completely, because it’s not like he’s helping us win any games when he is playing “injured”.
So I rather have him fully healed, so there would be no more excuses to his poor plays. If he continues to play as he is now, he will just keep getting injured over and over again.

if he’s that hurt then he’s retarded 4 playing n not letting his body get up to 100%. that’s how most athletes have early ending careers.

100% or not, this guy is slowly becoming known as one of the most injury-prone players in the league. Good buy to his value.

@JohnY
Read. It can’t be Nets spin. You think the Nets would spin this to help his trade value. How does it help his trade value if he is constantly hurt? This is getting so tiresome. HE’S HURT. And by what logic do you “glean” that he is on the trading block?

@Antoine
You mean like Richard Jefferson who missed 80 games in three years?
by Net Income on Jan 29, 2010 6:17 PM EST reply actions
Then he shouldn’t be playing. His play is hurting the team, if injuries are the reason, plain and simple, he should not be playing.
by J-Kay on Jan 29, 2010 6:22 PM EST reply actions
Why not try this? Have an open mind and assume other teams will work with us a little bit.
Battie, Lee, Simmons, Dallas pick, Warriors pick, cash for amare
If we were trade for Amare although i believe it is kinda dumb
and
Yi, Hassell, Hayes
for
Chandler and Jeffries of the knicks
This trade is assuming the Knicks are looking to add more veteran bodies and perhaps a hidden gem(lol) in YI
Id LOVE to see a 2010 lineup like this:
Wall
CDR
Chandler
Amare
Lopez
No Lebron, yet championship team. Sign JJ Redick and make more FA moves for solid bench players and this is a good team

Nah RJ had that one major injury that caused him to miss 50 games, which really isn’t controllable. He’s actually been playing entire seasons recently. Harris on the other hand is the type of guy who has a full arsenal of potential injuries up his sleeve, and will miss at least 15-20 games a season regardless.
by Antoine on Jan 29, 2010 6:26 PM EST reply actions
OK, so you tell me, what sense does it make for Nets mgmt to play Devin these minutes if he is indeed suffering multiple nagging injuries? How does it improve his value for zdevin to play poorly on a .100 team? No matter which side you argue, this all stinks to high heaven.
by JohnY on Jan 29, 2010 6:27 PM EST reply actions
More than likely, we’re trying to spread the word that hes hurt in order to keep his trade value up, or at least prevent it from plummeting.
by J-Kay on Jan 29, 2010 6:55 PM EST reply actions
To add onto that – Not that I’m doubting that he’s injured, but I think management is going to try to make it look worse than it is (which is the smart thing to do I guess)
by J-Kay on Jan 29, 2010 6:56 PM EST reply actions
@NI
Devin can’t see the floor. Devin can’t play defense. Devin is the opposite of a leader. Devin’s one good year so far, he made a ridiculous % of difficult shots, because he has no idea how to get good ones unless the hurls himself into the second row.
If we can get another 1st round pick and some new shoes for Brook, I’d trade him right now…

we can win this and the following ones, Go nets GO
in Nets we believe. 41-41 and playoff berth

I believe the Mavs got the better end of the trade. Trade Devin Harris please.
by 732_Franchise on Jan 30, 2010 1:10 AM EST reply actions
If this is in fact true about Devin being “more hurt”, then he should be benched til he’s 100%, nothing less. He’s only making it worse for the team by not competing to the best of his ability. It’d save the team a lot of trouble to just keep him out of the lineup and let Keyon lead us at the point.
by bobsakamato on Jan 30, 2010 2:15 AM EST reply actions
Keep him till the lottery. Then trade him if we get the #1. Otherwise, keep him.

When Richard Jefferson was on the team those who now claim he was fragile were saying the injury prone claim about RJ was bogus because the injuries he sufferred were more of the ‘freak’ variety (being undercut by Chauncey comes to mind) rather than having a body that just could not stand the rigors of day to day NBA basketball. (A claim that appears to be true – how many games has RJ missed over the past two years? He played all 82 games in 07-08, all but one game last year, and all but one game this year) So be consistent – are the injuries suffered by Devin over the past couple years freak injuries that would become outliers as you looked back on his career, or are they they type that leads you to believe his body combined with his style of play cannot make it through a full season? Unfortunately an honest assessment would make it seem like the latter. I dont hold it against Devin that he gets hurt because he does play a style that is tough on his body, but durability will always be a concern with him and you have to take that into consideration when you assess him and the team’s future.
