Humphries Leads Nets to First Win of 2010

Playing without Devin Harris and Courtney Lee, the Nets snapped their 11-game losing streak with a win over the Clippers at the Izod Center Wednesday night. Kris Humphries was the star, scoring a career-high 25 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench. The Nets grabbed the lead with a 9-0 run midway through the first quarter and never trailed after that. After they led by as many as 16 points late in the second quarter, the Clippers came back to tie the game early in the third, but Humphries and Keyon Dooling combined to outscore L.A. 14-4 over the next few minutes and build the lead back up. The Clippers never got to within less than five in the fourth. Dooling, starting for Harris, finished with 18 points and eight assists. Brook Lopez added 19 points and nine boards, while Terrence Williams filled the boxscore with seven points, nine rebounds, eight assists and a pair of thunderous dunks.

I love Humphries

Kris Humphries is the best thing to come here in recent memory, NOW TRADE YI or atleast stop making that bum start. Courtney Lee trade him and Devin Harris. Keyon Dooling and Kris carried us.
Twill was feeling it his dunks gave me goose bumps

Clippers must have the weakest interior defense…Humphries and Twill had a dunk Party..

Oh and Nets Win!

Hump de hump good idea no yi in the final minutes

by daft on Jan 27, 2010 10:00 PM EST reply actions

Finally! First win of 2010!

Looks like this is the end for Yi. Humphries is a clearly superior PF.

by A.S. on Jan 27, 2010 10:00 PM EST reply actions

It’s simple. Lee and Yi did not really play, and add Harris’ lazy behind to the equation, and we compete and play defense.

I like the fact that TWILL gets some minutes today and he played like JKidd a little bit.

Best game of the season. We got tested more than once and DID NOT FOLD. Kris Humprhies was a really good pick up. TWill lookled really good. Brook was Brook, and Keyon was clutch for us tonight. Great game, for the first time in a long time. . .Made my night, mos def

by pleasedraftjohnwall on Jan 27, 2010 10:00 PM EST reply actions

Congratulations, Nets. Hopefully, we won’t read that the 30 year old with the bad hip was traded. He had game tonight.

by Ispartan on Jan 27, 2010 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t jump to such hasty conclusions, but these are anything but normal circumstances. Put Humprhries in the starting lineup effective immediately. Make Yi earn those minutes – it is time for him to get a dose of reality. He is not an NBA starter and unless he can prove otherwise by being an effective bench player, that is where he belongs – on the pine. Ideally, he would be placed on the trading block, but that appears extremely unlikely since he is here for one reason, as a marketing ploy.

by Isaac on Jan 27, 2010 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Win #4!!!

This is how a NBA team suppose to play! I like Humphries more and more, especially love his aggressiveness. Keyon and Quinn both did a good job of setting up the plays. Brook played great and consistent as usual. Terrence Williams was all over the place; assists, rebounds, defense, points, etc.

Hope we can continue to build on this and win more games!

by LetsGoNets on Jan 27, 2010 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Okay okay who needs Lee and Harris? Who needs David Lee when we have Humphries!!!! Finally dunks going to the basket by Twill! Nets win!!!!

by Kupalski on Jan 27, 2010 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Humphries is clearly the starter over Yi….. not even close

i just love guys that play with passion…. Humphries wont score 25 every night… but if he just competes… Yi DOES NOT compete

How bout Terrence Williams?? Whose great idea was it to send him to the D-league LoL

by Antoine on Jan 27, 2010 10:02 PM EST reply actions

T.WILL!!!
Man, when this kid learns to use the glass, he will be a real asset.
Humphries played great, as well.
Maybe KiKi gives some thought to giving him a few starts, as he seems to mesh better with Lopez.
Yi needs to be the focus when he is on the floor, he might get more shots with the second unit.
Fun game to watch.

Huh, what? Did the Nets just win a game? Don’t wake me if I’m dreaming.

HUMPHRIES…NICE. Also loved it when Ian Eagle said, Every little step Bobby Brown takes, Chris Quinn is there. Ian Eagle is soooo much better than Marv.

I jumped off my seat several times watching this game….that’s something I truely missed and haven’t done as of late as a nets fan.

by Andy on Jan 27, 2010 10:03 PM EST reply actions

I have to admit that I was right on many accounts.
1. I predicted CDR wouldn’t miss this opportunity to play, w/o Harris and CLee.
2. I’ve been saying that Humphries trade was brilliant and that he is more valuable that Yi. (30 min vs. 14 min tonight)
Yi’s foul trouble was a blessing.
3. I‘ve been saying that Dooling was a keeping and shouldn’t be bought out unless it was Wall was already drafted.
4. I’ve been saying that TWill needs to be given a chance and he is IS a keeper for now.

Now lets wait and see if the Amare rumors to trade for CLee, Yi , Simmons + draft pick(s) are true.

by Russ on Jan 27, 2010 10:05 PM EST reply actions

LOOK AT THIS! what have i been trying to say all this time. The nets played excellent without the top two ball-hogs and poor defenders, Yi and Harris. Dooling showed he can carry a team. The net’s played outstanding defense. Twill played good also. He took some questionable shots but the assists and rebounds and defense he made up for it. And i don’t even need to talk about Humphries. OH! and lopez showed us that he isn’t the hog we thought he was. SHIP OUT YI AND HARRIS AND BRING AMARE! =]

Ian Eagle was hysterical tonight – as always. Best line had to be when he said “The Nets can taste it!” when victory appeared certain with around two minutes to play. Classic Birdman!

by Isaac on Jan 27, 2010 10:08 PM EST reply actions

Humphries is a very good player. It’s been a long time or never that I finally see a player off the Nets bench could contribute 20+ points and 8 rebounds.

From now on, let Harris and Lee sit on the bench, or come off the bench.

by jarkid on Jan 27, 2010 10:08 PM EST reply actions

Get in! That’s made staying up ’til 3 am on a weeknight feel like a much more sensible idea than it usually is when watching the Nets.

Very impressed with T-will tonight. Looked much more in control & generally found guys in their spots. Same goes for Hump too. Attacked the rim very well indeed & hit his free throws.

Now to see if we can build on it!

by UKNJ on Jan 27, 2010 10:08 PM EST reply actions

this game made kiki look like a moron.

fawning over yi and benching twill. twill is a good player if used correctly. granted he is not shooting jumpers anymore but driving and kicking. split humphries and yi’s minutes almost evenly giving more minutes to humphries.

courtney lee and harris can go. harris is a horrible defender and doesnt finish at the rim anymore. lee is just horrible.

twill almost had a triple double!

quinn played great in limited minutes also.

if only hayes can get back in his rythym………

by superb on Jan 27, 2010 10:09 PM EST reply actions

@Andy…i wouldnt say eric gordon is that popular and neither are the clippers

by jackbauer on Jan 27, 2010 10:09 PM EST reply actions

Not to get too caught up with just one win. But I liked the way the team moved the ball and played defense without Harris. I think if the team was thinking of moving Harris it wouldn’t kill me if they got something really good in return. Maybe its cause Harris needs to be surrounded with a bunch of play makers in order to be good, but I just don’t see Harris as the star we all thought he was. Don’t get me wrong, great player, but not up to the task of being a game changer by himself.

Anyways nice to see an entertaining game for once. And I would hope to see Keyon and Humphries both on this squad next year. They can be game changers off the bench.

by Andy on Jan 27, 2010 10:11 PM EST reply actions

A strong, interesting, and well-constructed game by the Nets without Yi, Harris, and Lee. Does one game cause management to question their judgment on these three “building blocks”? I have no idea of the answer, but finally something interesting to follow for us diehards.

by robby on Jan 27, 2010 10:12 PM EST reply actions

If TWill’s dunks get covered on top plays, then he Could be first substitute for Dunk contest. Maybe have 3 competing on Friday night for final spot?

Where are the apologies from those who wanted to give away TWill for nothing.

TWill is being tested by Thorn before Rod decides on pre-trade deadline decision(s). Maybe Nets don’t need Hayes anymore, but can get a high energy player instead.
Even a top D-League player might help more for rest of season than Hayes

by jerry25 on Jan 27, 2010 10:12 PM EST reply actions

What a nice COMPLETE game! That was fun to watch. Actually had a feel of the better Kidd years. Steals, hustle, fast break points, high flying dunks, never quit mind set. Hey, we have to be excited over something this year!

by JustinNJ on Jan 27, 2010 10:13 PM EST reply actions

I admit Humphries provided energy and hustle plays. However, Camby only played less than 7 minutes and therefore Humphries was played by C. Smith.

Furthermore, C. Smith has scored 18 pts at 6/6 shooting. Let face it, Humphries is not an all star type of player nor the first offensive option. He will fit great in the role like the young & healthy Najera.

We won this game because of our guards. Dooling & Twill were great. They provided 16 assist!!! Even Quinn played a great game. I think we might really trade Harris if we can land Wall.

Hassell really gotta go. He had 3 turnovers in the beginning of 3rd qtr….

Also I think we really should start Twill over Lee.

Great win!!!

Lee for Tyrus Thomas

I’d second the thought that Ian Eagle was awesome. He broke out every Bobby Brown reference he could think of – New Edition, “My Perogative”, “Every Little Step” and probably some I didn’t even catch.

Great game! No DH or Lee.
CDR had a good game, not enough minutes
CQuin!!? yes nice game
HUMP earned a starting spot tonight. KiKi must swallow his pride and bench Yi.
KD looked great even late!
TWill Slammin!! 2 great dunks 8rebs and 8dimes
Can we get a streak?

Brook
Humphries
Hayes/Hassell
Terrence
Keyon

If Humphries keeps playing like this, he’ll opt out of his contract and some team will give him the full MLE.

by Tin Man on Jan 27, 2010 10:15 PM EST reply actions

Humphries was amazing. he is clearly better then yi. it is a no brainer. and i like what humphries said after the game; if we compete and play like we do in practice every game, we could beat alot of teams. Which i think is true. this game was an eye opener.

Humphries has changed the whole team since he came, hard fouls, rebounds. I’m really glad he had a great game. Also, TWill almost had a tripe-double! Everyone contributed, a great team effort, even when Clippers made a run in the 3rd quarter. Keep it up Nets!!

@blazin pp face…either a season ticket or some medication cuz it sure seems a like a crazy idea most nights lol

by jackbauer on Jan 27, 2010 10:18 PM EST reply actions

Yi and Harris have to be traded while they have value. I dont want to trade Lee yet unless we can get something good for him, otherwise he should come off the bench.

Its amazing watching players who want to play out there, and players who actually get at it on def.

Chris Quinn, who has none of the physical tools of someone like harris was able to keep his man in front of him. Dooling whos a little older but banged up most the time can keep his man in front of him. Not saying this is the whole reason we won but its part of the puzzle. There werent many easy lanes to the basket. (that and both of them can shoot better then harris beyond the arc)

I supported Yi this year, and while its only 1 win, he’s way to soft. He cant start anymore. Humphries wont always do what he did tonight but he’ll play tough and with energy. Humph and Lopez play great together.

Twill….Highlight machine. He can pass and he can finish, and he has renewed my hope in him.

KiKi in press conf. talking about Yi playing tough and aggressive….this about the only negative i have tonight….well that and the hardline def. commercial about Yi.

by Boomdog on Jan 27, 2010 10:19 PM EST reply actions

by JustinNJ on Jan 27, 2010 10:20 PM EST reply actions

Start TWill at 3 (or bring him in early) and play CDR at SG. CDR’s no worse shooting than CLee now, and eventually will improve.

If the Amare rumor was true, that move may be necessary.

Think of how many assists TWill would get with Amare as PF!

by jerry25 on Jan 27, 2010 10:20 PM EST reply actions

Yi didn’t competes? If he didn’t;; why he got in foul trouble early??? I even see a hard foul from Yi tonight which was great!

Beside, 3/6, 2 boards, 1 ast, 1 steak in less than 15 mins wasn’t bad at all.

Don’t you guys realize it was really our Guards made a different from all the pervious games? Even Quinn was great on both end of the floor.

I’m not sure how to explain this but I feel that the best aspect of tonight’s game was Brook Lopez not having to be the center of attention , in a good way…..He looked comfortable and aware on the court…The Clippers had to focus on the other players for a change…And Brook still had a Quiet 19 points and 9 Rebounds and some really nice blocks……He had some time to study the other teams set ups and plays…This is a real good sign…..He’ll be an All-Star Center with a good team around him….Congratulations to all Nets Fans for finally getting and exciting game to watch…..

Trade for Amare now. I was disgusted before at the non interest I’m even more disgusted now. Yi needs to go. Lee can go too. Throw in Simmons and a pick and viola we’ve got an All Star starter. add that to our now sudden winning equation

I told you folks that THE HUMPH was going to work out. WOW! We stole this guy, and he has game! Tonight was also a reminder that Dooling is a better distributing point then Devin. SO, let them play together and let Dooling distribute. WHY NOT? I was “out” tonight, but have already caught some of the action on my DVR, and now I have something to look forward to watching later tonight or at 3am when I can’t sleep AGAIN. This is the softest part of our schedule, we might just win three more games in the next week or so. It could happen!

Twill’s passing game can be insane. He was feelin his game 2night. I really hope he can keep it going!!

Well Twill is someone you don’t throw in a trade right now. He would tear the nets up if we went to a team with some good guidance. If he came to the Suns…forget about it. Nash would make a monster out of him.

Hump gets after it on the boards and he was attacking the rim so hard tonight!

If the Nets want Amare…i’d say Lee/CDR, Yi, Simmons, and a 2nd round pick for him.

by jirohkanzaki on Jan 27, 2010 11:26 PM EST reply actions

A nice combination of vets and young guys. Dooling, hayes played well in the 4th, so did twill lopez and hump.No lee, very little Yi and almost no cdr. Good formula. Now if nets can lose kiki thing can look up.When did dell pass on?

by frank c on Jan 27, 2010 11:40 PM EST reply actions

I’ve seen some clamoring on here to insert Williams, and Humphries in the starting lineup going forward. Kiki continues to praise Yi frequently so you can forget Humphries starting any time soon and while we know T-Will is talented, he needs to prove himself mature and consistent enough to merit a starting spot before he deserves a starting role.

by Big Mike on Jan 27, 2010 11:41 PM EST reply actions

@ BIG MIKE

What????

YEAH….AND Courtney Lee and YI have really shown merit for a starting gig! How about you watch those two and let us watch Humphries and Terrence on a nightly basis and lets see who has more wins at the end of the season…

Wait a minute, I get it you are actually Kiki, right?

by JustinNJ on Jan 27, 2010 11:46 PM EST reply actions

TRADE YI FOR AMARE NOW!!! PLEASE!!!! I appreciate Yi’s improvement but we need proven players on this squad…we cant just rely on EVERYONE developing…

Devin
Hayes
CDR
Amare
Lopez

for the rest of the year??

then…get john wall, trade devin for a wing player then sign a badass wing free agent…lebron?? haha i will forever be optimistic about lebron coming over. haha

by Dennis on Jan 27, 2010 11:47 PM EST reply actions

I think Dooling needs to be the starting pg if he’s healthy enough to handle the role. Lee has not proven himself as a starter, and Harris could move to the 2. Dooling will provide veteran leadership and mental toughness that is lacking from our starting unit. Also, by pushing Harris to the off-guard spot management will see if he can still contribute from that position if we are fortunate enough to be able to select John Wall.

by Big Mike on Jan 27, 2010 11:49 PM EST reply actions

Wow!!! Humphries is better than Yi and Ryan Anderson combined!!!

by Panareal on Jan 27, 2010 11:52 PM EST reply actions

we still need a ‘stretch 4’ (who we had in ryan anderson) so yi is still valuable to the team…we all agree he aint no starter…hump had a great game but he aint no starter either…both should be used as the need arises…we need a starter quality 4! that 4 with lopez/yi/hump would be a great frontline rotation.

by jirohkanzaki on Jan 27, 2010 11:53 PM EST reply actions

I think someone in Yi’s family has blackmail photos of Kiki.

by Ed on Jan 27, 2010 11:54 PM EST reply actions

Too many excuses defending Yi’s poor game. Simply fouling doesn’t mean you’re competing. One of the fouls was out of frustration, because Yi missed a WIDE-OPEN REBOUND with no one around him, and simply hacked at Craig Smith to make up for it. It boggles my mind when he can’t simply grab the ball or gets stripped by a guard. Excessive fouling can also mean you aren’t moving your feet on defense, you are constantly out of position, or you lack any sort of grace on the court. Yi’s performance tonight sums up all three perfectly.

Great win the by Nets! We still gotta work on those defensive rotations, though. A better team would have picked us apart with all those switches, traps, and rotations that left players wide open.

TWill showed his unique game tonight, one that really doesn’t require a whole lot of shots/points. If a good coach can harness all his talent, he can be scary good.

Hopefully Kiki can fade out Lee and Harris, even if they continue to start. Humphries is perfect on the bench, because he provides a huge spark, along with Keyon, Hayes and TWill. I say don’t mess with Yi’s starting role, because it’s allowed Humphries to exploit matchups with second stringers. Bench production can be a tool used to help win a few more games.

by smp369 on Jan 27, 2010 11:57 PM EST reply actions

and that comment was directed at Nets, clearly no one else has defended Yi’s game tonight haha

by smp369 on Jan 27, 2010 11:58 PM EST reply actions

Great to see the nets get a win. That being said we beat a bad team who is horrendous on the road. Let’s not overreact about this. They’re 4-41.

by mattsimo on Jan 28, 2010 12:00 AM EST reply actions

Lets try this again,

we can continue to play yi and the supporting cast 30 plus minutes a game and continue to see team after team after team after team after team, run around and through us every game instead.

by JustinNJ on Jan 28, 2010 12:02 AM EST reply actions

Everyone says Humphries is better than Yi ,but it’s only One Game, means nothing. Why we get Humphries so easily? Is Mavericks’s CEO an idiot? What’s this guy has? Run faster than Yi?Jump higher than Yi?taller than YI?better shooting than Yi?
NO!!!!

by Wong on Jan 28, 2010 12:07 AM EST reply actions

There were two moments that proved to me that Humphries played with more intensity than Yi. Yi had grabbed the rebound and Caman just ripped it out of his hands and Yi made a really stupid foul. In the other moment I don’t know which Clipper had the rebound but Humphries just ripped it out of his hands with a big monstrous play. It is nice to have him and Lopez playing together.

by Sparklespice on Jan 28, 2010 12:07 AM EST reply actions

It is not that they won, but, how they won! They won by 16 points and played how a good team should play like. Hustle, passion and defense. The Clippers do have 20 wins and we now have 4. So, not bad either. Now, play Humphries and Terrence 30 plus minutes a game and just wear our blue away jerseys on the road and we are back in business.

by JustinNJ on Jan 28, 2010 12:09 AM EST reply actions

The goal the rest of the year is to get to that magic number 10. I do not want to set a NBA record!

by JustinNJ on Jan 28, 2010 12:11 AM EST reply actions

It’s amazing what happens when the point guards make an attempt to keep their man in front of them on defense.

Humph pwns in every sense of the word, and T-Will needs to play like this EVERY NIGHT and he will be a starter. I loved what I saw out there, some of those passes were beautiful.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jan 28, 2010 12:28 AM EST reply actions

I have argued this for a week (I actually have sent 2 emails in the past week to Kiki recommending this) that we start TWill at the point and Hump at the 4.

TWill has such amazing court vision for a rookie. This guy could develop into an absolutely dominant PG in the style of Jason Kidd. (I am not suggesting TWill is going to be nearly as good as JKidd but in terms of being bigger and stronger than most points, and filling a stat sheet with assists and boards – with points often being the lowest number in his stat line). Some of the plays that TWill makes are just instinctive and you can’t teach. Towards the end of the third quarter – he grabbed a defensive rebound in traffic, immediately pushed it up the floor and hit Hump on a dime from about half court for an easy dunk. That is a play that DH or Dooling will NEVER make. Also when he gets the ball and starts to penetrate -he has the size, strength and speed to beat any PG in the league – and the court vision to dump the ball into the open man on the block. If this team is serious about winning games – trying TWill as the point with DH at the 2 is a necessity.

As for Hump – he may not be the most skilled guy in the world – BUT he provides energy, rebounding and strength at all times. Is this not the moose Rod was looking for? And when his mid range jumper is falling – he can be very productive. He had a beautiful quick spin on the block for a fierce dunk – he is a player. Brook plays so much better with him on the floor than he does with Yi and Yi would benefit greatly from working on his game against the 2nd string PF.

Its only been a handful of games – but you have to like what Hump brings to the table and its realistic to view this guy as a piece of the puzzle for the future.

by Ryan243 on Jan 28, 2010 12:38 AM EST reply actions

@ smp369

Ok ok. Trade Yi and keep you all star Hump. I am tire of being a nets fan anyway.

by Nets!Nets!Nets! on Jan 28, 2010 1:04 AM EST reply actions

Yi can not go to the bench, otherwise the boss can not get money from China.
DO not forget, China has 1.3 billion people.

by lee on Jan 28, 2010 1:12 AM EST reply actions

NBA is a bussiness, take it easy.
No matter how sucks Yi plays, he will always be the starter player. After all,the market of China is much much more huge than that of newjersey

by lee on Jan 28, 2010 1:16 AM EST reply actions

@Nets

If you read my post, I said to keep Yi in his starting role, because Humphries is thriving in that backup role on the bench. My comments were simply refuting yours about Yi’s aggressiveness and quality in tonight’s game. Humphries is clearly not a messiah for the Nets, but he’s playing tougher and stronger in the paint. Agree with that?

by smp369 on Jan 28, 2010 2:11 AM EST reply actions

A-HA!

So this is what you get when you play a veteran at the PG and give T-Will and Humphries big minutes !!!

In my eyes, that game was the clear answer to a big question: TRADE HARIS !!!

TWill is amazing.

by Andres on Jan 28, 2010 4:57 AM EST reply actions

This is exactly what Kenny Anderson meant when he said that any team in the NBA should get 15-18 wins on effort alone. Apparently Humphries doesn’t know yet that he’s not supposed to try hard.

by PA Net on Jan 28, 2010 6:48 AM EST reply actions

Less Yi = more wins. Reality is that we don’t win games: other teams lose them. We win when they do not compete. LA played without energy or focus, kinda like us, usually.

Soon Hump will start as the shrinking Yi continues his downward fall into non aggresive play. Then Yi will be injured. Hope we trade him first.

by geo on Jan 28, 2010 7:06 AM EST reply actions

The front line played well on both sides of the court and we won. When that happens everything else falls into place including the guard play.

by Mr. Big on Jan 28, 2010 7:21 AM EST reply actions

First, the only real money from China comes from Haier commercials directly with Nets. They might remain a sponsor even if Yi was traded and certainly if he was a sub.
The other revenue from China is divided among the NBA, 30 ways.

Yi’s play is Not for lack of effort. He just doesn’t have the physical ability that Humphries has, which includes “good hands”. It Would be nice to have a PF with an outside shot. However, I’m not sure Yi could play at high level with limited minutes, the same way as Ryan Anderson does.

by jerry25 on Jan 28, 2010 8:04 AM EST reply actions

twill had a great game too. we need a twill rule like a joba rule – no shots from outside 4 ft.

by drmagoo on Jan 28, 2010 8:17 AM EST reply actions

Time for Yi to get a mysterious injury that puts him out for the rest of the season. Thus, saving Kiki the embarrasment of benching his boy Yi. Oh, by the way Lee is suddenly injured as well.

by Tom F on Jan 28, 2010 8:39 AM EST reply actions

Just watched the postgame interview with Humphries. I have to say I’m very impressed with his attitude. He speaks passionately and intelligently about winning. We’ll see, but he may be a really great pickup for us.

by PA Net on Jan 28, 2010 8:57 AM EST reply actions

Sweet game. TWill has it in him to be an absolute stud. Dooling played great too. Humphries plays pissed off every game, you gotta appreciate that no matter what you think of his abilities. I even loved how Chris Quinn played. I think Hayes is going to start to shoot better now, he is naturally a really nice shooter, its only a matter of time before he starts hitting his threes…and he has always been clutch, so he is a valuable guy too. Harris was not missed and I am not surprised.

by Chris2 on Jan 28, 2010 8:58 AM EST reply actions

Funny what happens when you play defense for a full 48 minutes! Even when the Clips were trying to make a run cutting the lead from double digits down to 3 or 4, we didn’t hang our heads. We kept pushing the tempo, sharing the ball, and finding the open man. Great effort tonight! Keyon was clutch, I hope he can keep it going. TWill showed that he can be a player in the future if he keeps a positive attitude. Humphries has really lit a fire for the rest of the team which has them playing with more heart and energy. To me, any win this year is a good win. If we can keep it up, I’m convinced we’ll be able to win at least another 6 games, maybe more. The ‘72-’73 Sixers can keep their record!

by Petrofor3 on Jan 28, 2010 8:59 AM EST reply actions

@Tom F
Lee had a 5th wisdom tooth pulled yesterday. Must have been causing great pain, or else I guess it could have waited for an off day.

Yi is needed to be healthy and playing well, if there is any hope to include him in a pre-deadline trade.

Anyone know why Camby only played 7 minutes? Was he injured?

Nets shouldn’t get overconfident because Baron Davis was taken out due to injury and didn’t play Camby.
Clippers had lost 9/10 past road games. They are a bad team on the road.

A healthy DH will be needed to beat better teams.

by jerry25 on Jan 28, 2010 9:46 AM EST reply actions

It’s good win, considering winning is so rare for the Nets nowadays. Honestly, the Nets’ defense is still terrible. The difference is that they were hitting more shots and enjoying a much better FG%。 At the same time, the clippers are not hitting theirs. Hump played a good game but I won’t get overexcited about it and draw any kind of conclusion. The clippers just played a lousy game, esp. when Camby was injured. The nets still have to sort out their problems.

by Tomas on Jan 28, 2010 10:06 AM EST reply actions

@ smp369

I agree. However, I would like to see Amar’e as starter and Yi as back up. As for Humphries, he can play as a back up role from Center to SF; kinda like Chuck Haye.

by Nets!Nets!Nets! on Jan 28, 2010 10:19 AM EST reply actions

Hump has played beyond everyone’s expectations, and I hope the Nets keep him around as a high energy bench player. TWill played his best game of his young career, by not taking long range bombs, playing solid D, and looking for teammates.

by Adam II on Jan 28, 2010 10:20 AM EST reply actions

Without those “sad sacks” Harris and Lee, this team looked like it was having fun. Maybe once Harris and Lee lighten up, things will be different for them. As for the chief “sad sack”, CDR, at least he played.

by Mike on Jan 28, 2010 10:46 AM EST reply actions

Speaking of chiefs, the Nets have to many chiefs and not enough indians.

When you have Harris, Lee, CDR, Yi and Lopez all looking to score 20 Pts, you have problems.

We need role players, who know their role…

T-Will was a good “role” player tonight, along with CDR, Quinn and especially Dooling. Do your job and let others do theirs…

Didn’t take long for Dave D to jump on Yi’s corpse. Damn, just one game too. What a tool.

by malorkayel on Jan 28, 2010 12:46 PM EST reply actions

Hey, guys, don’t get too excited. Seriously, Yi is still better than Humphries. Tonight, Hump was the benficiary due to Yi’s foul troubles. Remember this, Hump is the BACK-UP guy. He is an energy and does not have the offensive skill-set to be a legitament option on offense. He’s doing well in his back-up role and gives us a lot of energy off the bench. That doesn’t mean it’s time to jump ship on Yi yet. Yi can still score in a variety of ways and is just struggling now that teams are focusing on him from his break-out, post-injury play.

If hump continues to play well, teams will treat him like they do Yi and he won’t be that effective. I really liked what I saw from him today. He played great. I think he’s better off as a guy who stays under the radar for now because that way we can bring a surprise off of our bench. Yi is still the starting power-forward in my mind. He stretches the floor with lopez and really is an offensive threat in the opposing team’s defensive mentality. Hump shoul remain in the reserve role while getting a good amount of minutes, however.

by Juwana Man on Jan 28, 2010 2:38 PM EST reply actions

Yi is nothing. Yi is a place holder until Kiki and Thorn can ship him out. There is no way they are going through another season with Yi as the starting PF. They will get Boozer or Amare or Bosh or they know they will have another horrible year next year.

by geo on Jan 28, 2010 3:10 PM EST reply actions

I wonderc does Thorn and kiki have the guts to trade yi…what if the new owner like yi…your yi hater is out of luck..lol..

I hope yi was traded to phoenix Suns by the deadline…I want tosee yi with Nash..:)

You got it. People think Kiki would never let Yi go – Maybe Yormarket, but not Kiki.

If Yi goes in a good deal, then Kiki did his job with improving Yi’s offense.
