Who Would the Nets Buy Out at Deadline?

The Nets have nine players on expiring contracts. They'll try to trade some of them by the deadline. But what happens after Feb. 18? Will the Nets buy the rest out and bring in younger players for late season auditions? ESPN's Chris Sheridan suggests they might do just that. He calls Keyon Dooling, Tony Battie, Jarvis Hayes, and Trenton Hassell "buyout candidates" who might interest a playoff team like Boston.

hold onto Dooling, Hayes and Hassell as bench players….

@johnfried
Dooling is 30 and has arthritis in his hip joint. Hayes, like Dooling, has missed a lot of games in his career due to injuries. I can’t see them coming back. Hassell is a different story.

I’d love to keep Hassell…….And I feel that Dooling is worth the risk……But Hayes ,injury prone , just has not panned out….If Battie can get healthy , I still like him as a Backup Center to Blopez…..

Let everyone go and give WNBA players a chance, at least the Nets would be in the news, if they fail, 3 wins would at least have asterisk, of course we could keep Courtney, Brook and Kris.

I hope they buy out all of them and bring in some kids from D-League, Europe, wherever, an audition. Rob Kurz, Morris Almond, Rod Benson, whoever.

And I hope by then as well they have one or two younger players.

Bring in Rod Benson! Boom Tho!!!

As many of us have said before, it would be make no sense to buy out Dooling before the absolute deadline (after finding out if Wall will be drafted).

Dooling is giving his effort, as is Humphries and he is a team leader. Hayes should be traded before deadline if he doesn’t show more effort – then TWill can get more PT (I would rather watch Nets lose with TWill improving) than watch them lose w/o TWill playing.

Thorn will make some moves. However, Sheridan is a Nets hater. Nets should only get outside players in order to provide a spark since there isn’t much motivation now.
Battie is needed unless Nets can find another legitimate backup.

Obviously Hassell should be kept until July 1 as he plays hard regardless of minutes given. How can Nets keep Hassell after this season?? Can he be offered an extension at Vets Min? I thought Nets would have to bid on him around August.
