Kiki: Record Won't Matter to Free Agents

Amar'e Stoudemire isn't scared off by the Nets' record, but Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson and Carlos Boozer have said, to varying degrees, it would be big factor in their decisions. Still, Kiki Vandeweghe thinks it's mostly a non-issue for free agents, citing his experience with Denver. None of "the best free agents" asked about the previous season's 17 wins, he noted. Of course, none of them signed with Denver either.

I think it would be really sweet if they gave out free kiki punching bags with those $5 tickets. I’m just sayin….

I agree with His comment!

We have a core factor

Coach Kiki’s pregame NBA pep talk (clapping wildly):
C’mon boys, it doesn’t matter whether we win or lose, just go out there and have fun. You’re all winners in my book. And remember guys, if we feed Yi 20pts, I’m taking ya’ll to Mickey D’s! Go team!!

Kimssau,
I agree with his comment too!

But whats with the capital h in him? lol

by JayMS on Jan 26, 2010 9:52 PM EST reply actions

well of course the coach should believe the team still has some hope, even if not for this year! What coach wwould say we suck therfore we will not atract any free agents?

Does Carmelo falling into his lap makes him a genius? It is all about luck, nothing special he did to win the 43 games.

If the Nets don’t get Wall, don’t make any upgrades, don’t make any trades, etc… then no FA will come here and spearhead a rebuilding campaign (unless it’s a third tiered FA signing like Joe Johnson to the Hawks)

ONLY if the Nets make significant changes, like Wall, get Amare, trade away the flotsam and jetsam on the team to get a real supporting cast of veteran shooters and defenders… then a big FA will consider it. It’s called a master plan.

Remember the celtics in 07?

KG was not going to accept going to Boston… citing the people in the city…

Then once the Jeff Green pick became Ray Allen and a bunch of other veterans were signing up, then KG thought about it… the celtics that year also had a horrible record.

Sure, it was a trade, but KG did have veto power that year, so in essence he was like a FA. After that, he even signed an extension!

It’s called having a master plan. If the Nets are not proactive, then they will get nowhere. If they at least try, they will get some degree of results.

Recall, this roster does not consist of basketball IQ-less individuals who only know one on one basketball and have no concept of team basketball.

This team just lacks GOOD players. What do I mean? This can vary between running speed, dribbling speed, first step, leaping ability, reaction time, passing ability, defensive ability…

This team is substandard at nearly every position… of course you would expect to get blown out. Moreover, no one demands a double team on this team rigt now.

Think about you are playing street ball with your friends… you think you are pretty good.. once the Varsity team rolls around, you think you have a chance just because you can sink open 20 footers. Well you know how badly you will get beat…and how embarrassingly!

Were aren’t signing anyone… We’re getting out player via trade.

by Andy on Jan 26, 2010 10:16 PM EST reply actions

Man I catch type… Just trying to say that players will come to us in trades not free agency.

Who put this clown in charge?

by Shea23 on Jan 26, 2010 10:34 PM EST reply actions

Well just because the Nets are bad this season doesnt mean they’ll be bad next season unless they make big changes during the offseason. I think if the Nets add the right pieces they can attract big name free agents and this team can become a much better team or even a title contending team in one season.

Where Proky Walks…..Money Talks ….

by NetFan48 on Jan 26, 2010 10:55 PM EST reply actions

New splashy Arena, NYC-Brooklyn buzz, Gazillionaire basketball loving owner, global marketing opportunities, core of young talent, loads of draft picks for years to come including potential #1 this year, tons of cap space to invite your friends to come over and play along, a chance to blaze a new trail and not be the next great one in town. Record….we don’t need to stinking winning record. A coach, that we could use.

I have always held out the view that we would be the hottest young team in the league coming down the stretch and that this would make up for a crummy overall record. I no longer have faith that Kiki and the “trying not to go insane” kiddy core can hold it together long enough to turn it around. We may have to wait until 2011 to haul in the top free agents after they see how our Russian is going to spend his money and what type of coach he is trusting with his team. Lebron 2010 or Lebron/Melo 2011? I can be patient if the end is greatness.

by Jay on Jan 26, 2010 11:35 PM EST reply actions

@ the folks saying money talks

Not so much in the NBA, since everyone (except your own team) can pay you the same amount.

Hence, like I said before, I hate the individual player cap.

Is Prokhorov the only non-american NBA owner? If he is, then, will James, Bosh, or Wade want to help him win an NBA championship?

by kuljo on Jan 27, 2010 1:07 AM EST reply actions

As long as we get John Wall the record doesn’t matter.

by Krakista on Jan 27, 2010 3:20 AM EST reply actions

The Key to all this is Jay-Z. That’s how life works. The communication is ongoing all the time. If we trade for Amare we retain his bird rights. Meaning we can go over the cap to resign him. I say this is the most likely scenario. NJ parting with Yi, a first rounder (Dallas’s or a future protected) , a contract that’s expiring (Simmons) and either CDR or Lee.

Jay-Z knows what the NETS need to do to land LeBron, and I don’t think it is dead at all. With Amare in tow, with or without Wall the lineup could be championship caliber. Let’s assume we don’t land Wall but get the two or three pick

Harris
Turner or W. Johnson
Lopez
James
Stoudamire

bench

Dooling
CDR or Lee
Free Agent
Humphries
T Williams

55 wins first year

by supernetsfan on Jan 27, 2010 5:10 AM EST reply actions

17 wins no agents came to denver….

3-5 wins no agents will come here + our young guys wont want to keep behing here. if i was lopez, ill call the front office and have a meeting between Harris, CDR, Yi, Me (lopez), and kiki, rat, thron & proky.

our therms: you have till june 2010 to get us true players here or we’ll buy out our contracts and sign with other teams!!!

now that will be full court pressure on GM and Front Office!!! :D :D :D

Nets suck :D :D :D :D
