Humphries Better Than Expected

Fred Kerber said it best: Kris Humphries in four games has done more than Eduardo Najera did in over two months. Now, that Humphries knows some plays, knows his teammates, word is that the Nets think they got a good deal. "He's a little better I think than anyone realized," Kiki Vandeweghe says. As for the 24-year-old, he's happy despite the record. "It's nice to get a consistent opportunity."

Eh. I’m not impressed. The major problem this team has is defense. And I don’t see his defense as any better than Yi or any other PF on the team.

Humphries would excel even more if kiki wasnt obssssed with yi. i hate how kikis love for yi hurts the devlopment of our other young guys.
CDR should be getting Yi’s minutes, lee and lope would also be more productive if kiki was open to it.
sigh…. i hope by next year we have, a new coah, a superstar, and wall. that would be an ideal summmer of 2010

Humphries was a great pickup, especially since we were able to unload a year of Najera’s contract.

I think he should have a chance to take Yi’s starting spot. Yi has not been playing too well in the last couple of games. He really isn’t good enough to be a starter anyway…

nets need to start Yi for the rest of the season. consider it an extended audition for next season. the nets need to know whether or not Yi is a starter.

A trade exception well spent. I wonder if any other role player would look this amazing if they weren’t stuck on the bench for some other team. ex: Jamario Moon, Ryan Anderson, Austin Daye, JaVale McGee, Paul Millsap etc

Dex for how many more seasons do we have to babysit him? Let him have his personal trainer on premises, give him time he does not deserve? For how many seasons more? Isn’t it obvious he’s an average bench player on average NBA team.

@ A.S.
Are we watching 2 different Nets teams? On a normal roster Humphries may not be considered a great defender, but he is much better on Def. then Yi….Yi is one of the worst defesive bigs in the league. He hustles and hes tough on the inside which is something we need.

My opinion is that regardless of how Yi performs , kiki will be blind to the bad games (which is most of them) and will hang on to the good games (the few that Yi has had) ………… And the reason for that is because Kiki was the one who was pushing for the RJ for Yi trade. And who Wants to admit they screwed up?
The Point is , If kiki was involved with the Najara for Humphries trade {which I beleive he was} then someone needs to tell him it’s ok the give Yi’s starting spot to Humphries since his latest aquisition is much better than his previous one.

Obsessed with Yi. This article is about Humphries, who IS awful on defense by the way, and yet almost all the comments are about Yi.
The team is 3-38. There’s enough blame to go around.

From what I can tell Humphries was an absolute awesome pick up. The guy works hard, appreciates the opportunity, and wants to be here. Najera was an absolute waste. He did absolutely nothing while he was here. Anyone would have been an upgrade, but Humphries has been great so far.

Good trade, some people on this forum would blame the recent trajidy in Haiti on Yi.

Some of us are confusing poor defense with no defense. Hump plays poor defense. Yi doesn’t play any. And NetIncome, we’re obsessed with Yi because the coach is.

For those who feel that Humphries is a terrible defensive player , Please state your facts…….I still can’t understand how Dallas could let this kid (24) get away….Finally , Some luck came our way…..This kid is a keeper….

Finally, a good trade. You can see what Rod can do when his hands are not tied by a RAT and money is the only reason for the trade.

@ net income
the reason Yi’s name keeps coming up is because he stinks and the article is referring to the guy who we all feel should eventualy be starting in his place.

He’s a rebounding fool! Just what we need. But I think his middle name is “Chuck”.
by JD down the shore on Jan 22, 2010 8:42 PM EST reply actions
I’m not too impressed with Humphries either. He is better than most people would have expected out of a career backout. He plays hard now because he is hungry. But he is one dimensional. Other than reasonable rebounding and a jump shot, he couldn’t do much else. His field vision is underpar. Therefore he doesn’t pass well. When the ball is in his hand, we could pretty much expect him to take the shot, regardless of the situation. His defense is just as poor as any one else on the team and has never worked into any kind of a system. People got all excited with him because of the pathetic state that the Nets are in now. Any change looks good. Remember the Nets fans who chanted " Thank you, Cuban"? And where are those who got excited with Lee coming abroad? How about those who think that CDR is THE steal of the draft? Any nets player will look better if they play on another team. We will just have to wait and see. For the time being, Hump is a nice addition and I don’t think he is a legit starter, especially in the long run.

LOL, how can CDR get Yi’s minutes. They don’t play the position. You all got Yi in your heads. Crazy.

Humphries is the wisest trade ive ever seen since the vince carter for trash deal.
the boy gets the job done as a strong support; i hope he stays with the team for a long period of time.
you are part of our future and, best of all, you are happy to be here.
Booooo @ Courtney Lee
P.S Nets suck :D :D :D :D :D

Some of you guy’s have something against Humphries and I don’t know why….. If he gets enough time he will be a Double-Double machine and HE PLAYS VERY GOOD DEFENSE…… He is a breath of Fresh Air….What do you guy’s want from him….Are we watching the same games ? …Please state your facts about why you feel “The Humph” isn’t playing defense ……..Thank You….

I like Humphries just fine. However, I do see him foul out of frustration and give up on plays. Kind of like Swat. Don’t mind it too much with him coming of the bench.
The bigs have 2 choices, try to cover for the guards or let opponents score and stay out of foul trouble.
I saw Lopez give up a few layups too. Why try when you end up collecting 3 fouls and benched.
by malorkayel on Jan 22, 2010 10:30 PM EST reply actions
What I’m seeing in Humphries is not so much that he fouls out of frustration but I see it as he is not going to let the other player get a 3-pt play on him…It looks to me that he fouls hard which not many Nets have done that recently…..Most Net players foul too soft and the other player gets a 3-pt play….I see the celtics do this alot…They foul hard…..

Well Humphries could use a little help once in a while. When Maggette had him backpedaling on a fast break, Devin Harris did not help close the driving lane so Maggette cut back left and was free to the rim. It was Humphries that looked bad on the play but he had no chance.
There is very little team concept in the defense and whatever effort they put out tends to go away for a time. A lot of stubbornness is out there.

More than the actual defense, it’s his toughness that gives him the edge over Yi on the defensive end. His one-on-one defense isn’t anything special, but his strength and motor can make a difference out there. His midrange jumper has looked pretty nice, but he looks like a HS varsity player – making a forced move and jacking up shots every time he touches the ball. But he brings a sense of muscle and energy that the Nets do need. Let’s hope Kiki coaches this kid, he could be a solid big off the bench for the future.
