Game 40 - Nets @ Clippers - Monday, January 18, 3:30

The Nets open a short western swing with a Martin Luther King Day matinee. The Clippers, 17-22, have lost four straight and are without Blake Griffin, the overall #1 pick, for the year. As the Nets eye the #1 in June, they've got to be concerned the same doesn't happen to them: putting all their hope in the Draft. The Clips may have Chris Kaman (day-to-day) and Marcus Camby to give the Nets' Twin Towers trouble.

We need Thorn to take a page out of Petrie’s book no matter where we draft. That is to look at the player’s competitiveness more so than in the past. Casspi and Evans were homeruns. Jason Thompson was good. And nailing Francisco Garcia and Kevin Martin where they did wasn’t too bad either.

Nets looked at Casspi. Apparently, Kiki liked him best.

Should have taken him, or Hansborough or Taj Gibson. What they saw in T Will who knows…???

6 of the Kings 8 leading scorers are home-grown draft picks… and that is not including Francisco Garcia who has been a double figure scorer as well. Even Brockman showed some promise as a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches at times.

If this team loses to this team then I really see no hope. Forget the summer the Nets need to make something now! What freeagent would want to join this mess of a team if there are other players this offseason?

Can we change the NBA rules on the draft? Allow the worst team a greater percentage at winning the #1 pick by a mercy rule. If you are below 10 wins your chances improve to 50% instead of 25% to win the top pick!

Kiki comes clean. I can understand feeding Lopez, but not this much. Isn’t that what practice is for? As for Yi, if he is the future, than there is no future. Teams out there would love to have Yi, it is scarey if he really believe this.

1st pick- John Wall
Mav’s pick- Demarcus Cousins or Devin Ebanks
2nd round pick- Jarvis Varnado or Damion James (then there would be two players named “James” on the Nets LOL)

@Tom F
“Teams out there would love to have Yi, it is scarey if he really believe this.”
Actually, it’s true. If the Nets were stupid enough to want to move the kid, they would take him off our hands. The Celtics wanted him last summer. They wanted him in return for Big Baby. The Bulls offered us a Thomas for Yi swap.
Now, you have a CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDING team and a PLAYOFF team who would want to get him. Yet we have to hear how some people here want him out when we have the WORST team in the history of the game, LOL.
Yi is a 22 year old 7 footer, who is averaging 16 and 7. He ranks 4th among PFs in FTs attempted per game. He’s not our future, but he’s an important part of it. He’s a building block for us. Nets fans should give props to this kid for his hard work, and he’s talented, anyone with eyes can see that.

And everyone wants to point out Yi’s defense and basketball IQ. Because we all know most NBA players are suuuch good defenders and have high basketball IQs. Please, Amare Stoudamire, a guy you drool over, also is a bad defender and has a low BB IQ, but you’d love to have him. Let’s not talk as if there aren’t a lot of NBA players who aren’t solid defensively and don’t have the highest BB IQ.
But anyway, can we beat the clippers? There really is no team that we can beat for sure anymore. Wins are just going to come through luck and chance. There’s a huge chance Kaman beasts us inside and Baron Davis beasts Devin while Eric Gordon takes advantage of our horrible 3pt defense. And we get outrebounded by Camby-Kaman. But let’s hope Baron Davis is turned off for this game.

Andres and muvu, You guys are so right. The Yi haters are running out of logic and things to say. They repeat the same irrational things over and over again that are old and boring. Let’s just hope that we see some team work on both offense and defense to beat the Clippers. At this point, I just feel that it’s beyond frustrations. It’s more like sympathy now.

Can we get a W please. At this point, I would love to win 1 out of every 5 remaining games!

I think we can all be confident that Yi, Brook and Devin will have every opportunity to play. They are the core players for this team, per the coach. With green light deference to their skills, can they win games? We will have another 42 games to see, unless the new owner arrives sooner and changes Kiki’s plan.

The Nets are going to get obliterated.
23 point loss. At best.

40 points in the first quarter. This is Scary. I predict 76 in the first half.

The problem with our defense can all be traced to YI. He sucks on defense. He doesnt have a position in this league. This guy is killing our team.
Our lineup should be:
Lopez, Humphries, CDR, Lee, Harris

How about this for a promotion on an upcoming game night Yormark? “Five Minutes to Tell Ratner What You Think Of Him Night”. That will get me to put a few bucks in his greedy, slimy pockets.

Wow this just gets harder to watch ¡¡ I consider myself a true nets fan even though i live in South America , this december i flew to attend 2 games . Well i just hope all this losing ends , the draft is important but we need wins to get the F.A. , watching the clippers game and it hurts to see a GREAT TEAM , be the worst!
NETS get no respect at all even when we went to the finals 2 times , only games we get here are San Antonio and Lakers¡
Good luck to all the nets fans , we knew this season was going to be hard , but not this bad¡!

The defense was putrid, maybe the worst D the Nets have played all season. Guys really are not anticipating the next play and are frequently getting caught out of position. I have never seen that many open dunks underneath the hoop in one game before.
On the offensive side, so far relying on Yi & Brook to carry the offensive load is not working. Clearly Kiki thought pounding it in to Brook would lead to double teams and mismatches that we could exploit, but it has not happened and we lack the shooters to suceed with that strategy.
On the bright side, Humphries is looking reliable off the bench.

I agree with Ronnie……Even if Yi ever gets a consistent offensive game (which I don’t see happening)….his so called Defense is always going to kill us…..At 7’ with the quickness and agility that he has he should be blocking so many shots without even getting near his guy…He basically gets like 5-10 feet away from his guy and just shows a light wave of his arm…..He’s afraid to get too close to the action and he really seems to have a very low Basketball IQ…..
