High-Energy Humphries

Kris Humphries has played limited minutes the last six years, mainly because who he's played behind: Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh and Dirk Nowitzi. He has his flaws: shot selection and focus, but now he's got minutes to work through them. His first two games as a Net have left players and coaches smiling. In 44 minutes, he's posted 24 points, 16 rebounds, gone to the line 16 times and blocked two shots. He's only 24.

well he is jacked.
got a double double in his debut? sure it was scrap time against boston scrubs, but not even Yi/Boone can do that.

i like his tough nosed, aggresive, football like mindset. thats something this teams lacks, toughness. i like his energy but much of the minutes hes plated are garbage time.
so lets not get too carried away, as often nets fans do, lets just see how consistantly he plays wid this energy.
and btw just wanted to ask, NI the nets are going to keep CDR right? i know your jot a big fan of his but i really dont wanna see a kid with talent slip

Humphries is the type of player that JKIDD was longing for before he left the Nets….This kid has toughness..We need more of this…..He’s a keeper….

His contributions will look better when were winning.

I don’t know if he is the player JKidd wanted…
Kidd wanted some kind of awesome hybrid big man who could score down low, grab a ton of boards, AND run the break proficiently…

he has quick feet…and hustles on defense…
if he can hit that jump shot like he did last game…he could be very valuable

@brian – that’s what I was thinking. Maybe he could tighten up his defense. If his ceiling was Aaron Williams, and he reached that ceiling, I sure wouldn’t be disappointed.

I like this kid. Plays hard, plays tough, doesn’t care about looking pretty. We need more guys like him to do the dirty work.

Now sign Dwayne Jones from the CBA—a stronger rebounder and shot blocker—and get rid of Josh Boone. Boone can’t cut it as a center or a power forward and his play has gotten worse. I thought he’d be a good backup, but he just has to go. Trade him for Robin Lopez, if possible.

Very good addition and likes to rough it up. Much needed.

I think THE HUMPH is going to surprise some people with these added quality minutes. I’d like to see him get his consistent 20 min a game for the rest of the season. No, he still is not the backup center we need, but certainly he can backup Yi, and play him strong in practice too. Maybe with these minutes, and some coaching attention, THE HUMPH can turn into a quality rotation player. Maybe this turns out to be a good move by THORN AND KIKI, I hope so. GO HUMPH, GO NETS!

In two games he has already given us more than Najara did in a year and a half.

All true, BUT he has a minus-26 in the plus/minus category the other night vs. the Pacers. He was on the floor during their second period run. In other words, he is not a good defender. He’s got potential and finally some minutes to make things work, but that position, power forward, still doesn’t have anyone who can defend.

This guy looks like a keeper. But the jury is still out. I have to wait when the opposing team focuses on him. How he is going to handle it.

Humphries has all the qualities that Nets fans want in PF, he is not named Yi from China. LOL!
Little things like stats, or facts doesn’t matter.
To be honest, I feel bad for humphries, he is stuck on the Nets. He’s got good size and athleticism. He plays poor defense and fouls way too much. Not much of an outside shot. He can’t continue to play this way if he want to take over the starting PF.

@NI
That -26 was not because of Humphries. The Pacers were drilling jumpers, not getting putbacks.

@NI
I despise the +/- stat above all others. Extremely deceiving.

Hump is a KEEPER
I love the addition of Kris Humphries. Yeah, his games has some flaws, but this guy is tough and aggressive, plays with great hustle, can rebound the ball and will spark our team coming off the bench, he’s perfect for that role.
If we sign someone like Tyrus Thomas and then add another big like Demarcus Cousins or Greg Monroe (combining the Mavs pick and our 2nd rder to move up if necessary), we will have an exciting group of big men going forward:
PF: Yi/Thomas/Monroe or Cousins
C: Lopez/Hump

I agree, the man doesn’t hesitate to foul hard and often. Look at it positively.
by malorkayel on Jan 17, 2010 11:41 AM EST reply actions
Hope he can keep the energy level up after 30+ losses…

Humphries didn’t get the memo yet. When the refs call 3 magical fouls on him under 2 minutes. He will stop with the hard fouls after time on the bench.
Oh, how the fans will turn on him.

I agree with Robbie……I feel that Humphries is an awesome defender and when he fouls , he fouls hard….He has to play with these guys for a while but I saw him leave his man to defend the basket and help his teamates a few times…..I have not seen alot of that with the Nets in a long time…..I like his court awareness…..And the way that he keeps on following his missed lay-ups….KEEPER…..

i like his attitude but let’s not get carried away. this guy has a low bb iq. he really needs to learn his limitations so he can be a good role player. same as twill

May be a weak defender, but still an upgrade on Yi. He rebounds far better and is not afraid to rough it up. He is not the answer, but he is a start.
by geo on Jan 17, 2010 8:44 PM EST reply actions
This was exactly the type of player the Nets have been lacking all season. A guy willing to do all the dirty work, foul hard, and always has been a team player. I think he is an upgrade over Boone talent wise, despite being undersized at times.
