CDR: "I'm Not Selfish"

Got to give Chris Douglas-Roberts credit. He doesn't hide. After spending most of yesterday sending mixed messages about his happiness with the team and enduring a night of fans' tweets, he took questions again from the media, defending himself, mainly against charges he's selfish. "Never, not on any level," he said. "Loved in the locker room". He described his relationship with Nets fans as "love-hate".

CDR, if you are reading this, please stop now. You can’t control what others do or say, so just keep playing hard.

How about instead of twittering nonstop.. you hit the gym and put some weight on your frame, then go home and watch tape on the opposing team and figure out tendencies that player may have that you can use to your advantage. After that maybe spend some time shooting 3’s so you can develop an all around game.
Just a thought

CDR is a little like my Ex-Girlfriend. He craves drama and attention.

CDR……if you want more shots, earn them. Gain the trust of your teammates and they will feed you the ball when you are open. Your lack of shots has more to do with your teammates distrust than you having been given direction by MGT to pass the ball inside to the post. I know that as your assist total has not increased at all since the days of your 20 point games.

I like how we all talk about Fresh like we are in the locker room “gain the trust of your teammates” “work harder in the gym”….No one knows what is going on behind closed doors. I think Fresh likes to speak his mind and keep things “real” so to speak. As long as he works hard for the team, keeps his mind in the right place, and looks at the bright future. He will be just fine and a star in the NBA.

a month and a half ago everyone was jocking this kid, saying frank should be fired for not playing him more.
what happened?
by Trenton on Jan 15, 2010 4:42 PM EST reply actions
Most still believe he is a future Hall of Famer…I laugh at that thought…he is a dime a dozen player in the mold of Roger Mason from the Spurs.

I just love his passion. Losing really bothers him a lot. Maybe if the others felt the same way, they wouldn’t be 3-35.

I still say TRADE HIM and TRADE HIM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, Adam, you really have one for Roger Mason. I’ve seen you mention him in other posts too. But I don’t know Mason so I’ll have to take your word.
I’m in the camp that I like CDR. I think he worked hard this off season to get where his is from last season. And I hope he can work hard again next off season to get on a higher level. I don’t know Mason, but I know CDR is in his second year and has improved from his first.
So instead of shipping him off because he Twitters (and in my bad, doesn’t really go too negative, unlike TWill did) I want to see what he can do next year, especially when we hopefully have a real coach and an over all team plan and not just a chaotic it “Throw it out and lets see if it works” approach.

Why doesn’t anybody complain about courtney lee he’s been a huge dissappointment. You guys are something else.
by 1milord on Jan 15, 2010 6:17 PM EST reply actions
@1milord Glad some1 notices..they trash the guy that IS performing and turn the other cheek 2 the guy that was given a starting job b4 he even put a Nets uniform on..but this all goes back2 kiki’s “system” He is very, very “fond” of Yi..alarmingly “fond” of Yi..and he also is 100% behind C Lee..who has done NOTHING 2 warrant him being our starting SG..its pretty obvious, this organization simply doesn’t like CDR for personal, hidden agendas, whateva it may be..But he’s way 2 talented 2 be catchin criticism for avg 15pts/4rebs playing out of position in his 2nd year..and not 2mention, the guy with his job sucks..Not 2mention he’s a 4th/5th option..why should his numbers or shots suffer for the development of the coach’s favorites? Its sad 2 watch..he deserves better..The Nets simply have no class

CDR is not the problem with this team.
The coach/GM is
Why did the offense change when Yi got healthy?
Boone was getting left wide open before yi came back
If the offense didn’t change the old plays that Boone couldn’t score in Yi could have, or Brook or someone else would have been open.
That’s what’s wrong with this team.
Since Yi came back kiki wants to make him better.
Why is KiKi doin 1 on 1 drills with Yi?
KiKi should be running plays with everyone not just his “special project”
Players see these things and when the team doesn’t win, why should other players bust their butt?
Why should CDR get called out for defense?
When has kiki called Yi out for defense? NEVER!
Kiki is embarrasing this team and himself by showcasing and babying Yi.
Start HUMP and put Yi on the bench

KD,
I actually dislike Mason as well. It just humors me as we would never consider Mason to be a mainstay of our team, yet he is so very much the same player as CDR when given the minutes (one dimensional). I actually like CDR a bit, yet not to the extent that I envision him being anything more than a good 6th or 7th man when we actually become better.
In terms of Lee, I have never like him from the get go and believed Ryan Anderson was a better prospect to keep. If I had my choice I would have preferred the package of folks that San Antonio was offering for Carter, that being George Hill (PG) and wouldn’t we know it, Roger Mason.

@djheavyduty great post…u couldn’t have said it better
by The GM on Jan 15, 2010 7:28 PM EST reply actions
@djheavyduty – i agree 100%. the team’s dysfunction is all Kiki’s fault. No matter what you thought of LFrank, he had to deal with little talent and tons of injuries; Kiki has had to deal with the shambles he’s made of the team; the sad part is that he doesn’t even seem to care. A Ratner/Yormark disciple.

I have no problem with CDR, he is young and has passion. I wish more players were like him. If he didn’t show any passion, folk would be on his case saying the kid’s got none…damned if you do, damned if you don’t. It’s how he is, and it don’t bother me one bit.

@ 1milord – Really? What games are you watching?
by diehardNFFLbarnone on Jan 15, 2010 7:55 PM EST reply actions
@ mike what’s your beef with cdr.he’s the best young wing player on the team has the most heart the most passion and he’s playing out of his position.what more do you want from him. He improved so much from last year but you continue to bash him but you have nothing to say about courtney lee who ain’t ..

CDR has transformed from 20-5-5 to 4-3-2. Explain please.
by Jim on Jan 15, 2010 9:47 PM EST reply actions
Trading CDR would be terrible.
He is a bargain at his salary… He can score… He can create some shots… He is, sadly, probably our 4th or 5th best player (Lopez, Harris, Dooling, maybe Yi ahead of him)… He has made huge strides from 1 year ago… so it is reasonable to believe he may continue to make tremendous strides… the problems they have with him would stop if they 1) Knew how to handle players; and 2) Didn’t run the team like a joke.
Yes, they run this team like a tragic joke. Kiki.. KIKI??!?!?!!?!?!??!!? No full time scouting… Babying Yi… Playing favorites…
So basically we are in for one heck of a bad second half… with or without CDR… may as well be with him so next year we are a better team… He can contribute and at his salary, he might be one of the best bargains anywhere.
by Paul B on Jan 15, 2010 10:26 PM EST reply actions
I think the best thing the Nets could possibly do would be to fire Kiki, PERIOD. As coach, as gm, do it immediately…. and stick some veteran coach in on an interim basis… someone with lots of experience.

I’m not a fan of players. I root for the team. Not into the man-love player worship thing. Nets had a lot of that with Kidd and VC. Too much.
Adam is on target with his assessment of CDR's game. He is a fledgling 6th or 7th man at best. Looking at his "acheivements" on this atrocious team is laughable. He has weakness in his game that probably won't go away in my opinion, so he's a role player at best. He has way too high of an opinion of himself, and talks way too much. He is trying way too hard to get attention. But he likes to win and that's good. The fact that he "homies" with crimnal Shawne Williams is a huge negative. It shows he has bad judgement in who he should be "buddies" with.
I don't mind if he sticks. He wants out though. Don't kid yourself. He would be a good back-up 2, but he must be quiet and a pro. Lee has an all-arouund game – it's just that it is all-around bad.
The Nets need a starting caliber 2, 3, and 4. CDR and Yi are fledgling bench players. Right now, I wouldn't care if I never saw Lee or T. Williams again. Yeah they are young, and as of now they stink bad. They don't wamt to be here either.

I hope that the Nets trade this kid to a franchise that has legitimate coaching, veteran presence that can teach him, and that has a fanbase that actually appreciates hard working players.
the way that my fellow Nets fans have treated this kid is an absolute disgrace. Some you guys are just flat out embarrassing.
