Williams A Week Away

A couple of questions about the newest Net were answered before Wednesday's game. Shawne Williams had been working out during his exile from the Mavs, first in his hometown of Memphis, then in Las Vegas. As a result, he may be able to get back on the court in a week, says Kiki Vandeweghe. The 6'9" swingman calls this his second chance, "I’m older now and I know how to act. I'm more mature."

Welcome aboard Shawne. Play hard and stay out of trouble and you will do just fine.
Maybe you can set a good example by showing some of the younger players what being a smart arse gets you.
Good Luck… You can do it…

Set up a twitter account and spend all your nights tweeting like CDR does. He never goes out, ergo he can’t get in trouble!
I want this work, but I know it’s a long road.
Read yesteerday he has a 7’3" wingspan.

@ Humphries, who said “I really don’t know a ton of the plays yet”
Don’t worry, neither does Kiki.

This is a very smart move for the Nets
1 of 3 things happen:
1) He’s really bad off the court and we dump him and do so in a manner that sends a message to guys like T-Will.
2) He’s good on court and off, and he’ll be grateful to the Nets for the opportunity and sign with us on favorable terms for the future.
3) He’s good off the court, bad on it = extra salary to add to a trade for a big time player.

I have no expectations. This way if he does what I expect, and is a nonfactor and is gone…whatever. If he somehow does soemthing to contribute in a positive way, even as a chip for the Nets franchise, then I am only happy. Even if he does the right thing, no way he should get anything significant money-wise, and no way for more than a year. Partial guarntees if possible, etc. It takes more than a few weeks to “establish” yourself in my opinion. Track record counts. Nets can’t waste any time and space as bad as they are.

@Paul B
you can’t trade a player that’s been waived…and so it is a smart move no matter what to keep him on the roster.

Has there been any talk of sending S. Williams to D-League to get in shape and some PT for a few games?
Unfortunately, D-League isn’t quite set up to serve their NBA affiliate. There is no guarantee that the DLeague coach would give out enough minute to S. Williams.
However, it would be a test for S Williams to behave professionally and do as told. If he doesn’t shape up, then ship him out (or buy out) before Feb. 18 deadline. Otherwise, he could be a nice tall addition at SF and would put pressure on TWill to perform.

He is on the team solely in case his salary is needed for a trade.

The Mavs already dished out the punishment, the Nets are wise to see if he learned anything. The upside on this guy is much higher than Sean Williams. He can actually play basketball.

The one thing this guy has going for him is that he’s going to be playing with a former teammate (CDR). That alone should keep him in line and out of trouble.

He should know that the Nets have no patience especially at this point for knuckleheads, when you have 3 wins anyone can be cut at any time. Right now it looks like Kiki’s “fallen angel” mantra looks more like an “overpaid collection of stiffs”, except for Lopez.

The Probability of Shawne being our “Fallen Angel” this time should be high…..From what I understand , Shawne has a pretty good game…..I hope that he works out and can add some pizazz to this Nets Team…..Good Luck to him…..

I’d like to know who on this board would like to see LFrank back? I, for one, would take him out to Olive Garden to see him rejoin our team.

I feel like I heard THIS before….

No Hab. Getting rid of Frank was one of the few good things to happen this season.
by pinetar on Jan 14, 2010 1:23 PM EST reply actions
I’d like Frank back too. Not happening. But man we would be less of a mess.
by Paul B on Jan 14, 2010 1:46 PM EST reply actions
He’s going to be that 20&10 PF we’ve always wanted.
by Simon on Jan 14, 2010 2:23 PM EST reply actions
It was worth ditching Frank just to free Muscle Devil! Might not have happened otherwise…
by John at the Jersey Shore on Jan 14, 2010 2:24 PM EST reply actions
Frank is not coming back. I can guarantee that.
Anyone want to make a wager?
I didn’t think so.
Bring back Avery Johnson though and either Harris would shape up (on D) or ship out.
Avery has all the skills of Frank but isn’t afraid of getting in players face/head and they would respect him as a form player.

Frank is a way better coach than KIki. But he wouldn’t be playing the youngsters, that’s why he is gone. The NETS are not delusional. Kiki is there simply to mentor Yi and the young guys and see that we have the best chance for a top pick. He won’t be there next year

To be a “fallen angel” should you have to have success first?

Anyone wonder if the “leak” to the media of Nets planning to immediately buy-out S. Williams was a ploy to get deal to go through or did they figure that out after (or just want us to believe that)
Wonder what role Proky had, as it sounded pretty sneaky, which I like?
Still would like to see SWill get tested in the DLeague first in order to give him big minutes and test his determination (which SWat failed out).
I’m sure management would say that facilities and staff are better with Nets, but I don’t buy that excuse.
Wouldn’t SWill be taking minutes from his “friend” CDR?
If so, it may not be long before CDR gets most of his minutes playing SG.

Why are the Nets knuckehead central all of a sudden. What happened to the stockpiling of good role models for young team.
Nets No. 1 picks I am recalling
Zoran gone
Curly gone
Antoine gone (thank god)
Marcus: gone
Josh about to go
Sean gone
Ryan: gone
Brook: sound likes he wants to go
Twill: maybe going
(Did I miss anybody)
If you look at the above should Rod/Kiki be running the show and making the 2010 pick? Gotta believe Proky is going to clean house from top to bottom including Thorn.
Frank is in seclusion. Leave well anough alone.

That works out better for CDR, since he plays better at the two guard IMO.

“He’s going to be that 20&10 PF we’ve always wanted.”
@Simon -
Haha – I sense your bitter sarcasm. It’s doubtful that he will get 20 points and 10 rebounds TOTAL in his Nets career. He’s already failed twice – both on the court and off – so the idea that he’s going to amount to anything for the Nets is improbably remote.
Sadly, we could easily have had a 20-10 guy in the draft: DeJuan Blair. Did anyone see that he had 28 and 21 last night in the Spurs win in OKC (when Duncan was rested for the night and Manu shot 0-10)? Many people – OK, maybe only me – thought we should have taken Blair with the 10th pick. Instead, we got Terrence BUST Williams.
by A.S. on Jan 14, 2010 3:04 PM EST reply actions
It’s worth giving this guy a shot, Nets obviously have nothing to lose.
Also, I don’t think Frank or any other coach could turn this around even slightly. This team is very confused, and there is poor chemistry, it will take a while before they can gel – and a lot of these guys will not be here next season.
Basically, they need to trade some guys, get draft picks, score a couple free-agents, get more money from ownership, and THEN a coach could help turn it around. It’s painful to watch, but it’s a full-on rebuilding process happening.
by NiceBull on Jan 14, 2010 3:06 PM EST reply actions
@A.S.
I spoke to someone (before the season began) who was in the “war room” on Draft Night and he said there were people who wanted Blair. I don’t know the breakdown but I assume the knees were the issue for them as it was for other teams.

What the heck do we need this guy for? Destined to be sitting at the end of the bench, in an extra long, lime green suit. We just got another bench warmer named Williams, with an attitude problem. He will be packaging groceries by this time next year. To heck with these guys who don’t respect their “gifts” and waste them. If I had “talent”, I wouldn’t waste it.
