Mavs Were Looking for Different Deal

Marc Stein reports on what held up the Nets deal with the Mavs last week: Dallas was hoping to trade the same assets to the Jazz for Carlos Boozer. Under that scenario, rejected by the Jazz, the Mavs would have sent the non-guaranteed contract of Drew Gooden along with Kris Humphries and Shawne Williams to Utah. Meanwhile, FanHouse examines the Shawne-for-Sean exchange...weird.

Mavericks fans must be very happy on hearing this.
They get Najera instead of Boozer. LOL

Nets fans should thank Utah.
Our Dallas #1 pick probably “improves” because of Utah’s veto. Plus we probably would still have Najera and no Humphries.
Thank you Utah!

We do need a rebounder, hopefully, Humphries is our man. Thank you Utah. You know Dallas would also have probably re-signed Boozer this offseason if they would have traded for him. Dallas’ lineup would be top three in the league with Boozer. Kidd, Terry, Josh Howard, Marion, Nowitzki and Boozer! GEEZ.

We lost our only good rebounder in Kidd, and those 9 apg are sorely missing as well. Need a true p/g to help get all these stiffs better.

John Wall looked good last night. His court vision is impressive. I am at the point now, where I check the West standings and schedule daily – looking for Dallas to lose and Western teams to win – hopefully improving our Dallas pick – even if by just 5 spots. I’m still hoping Dallas collapses and ends up in the lottery……..And no, I do not believe in the tooth fairy.

Let’s hear what Najera is saying after leaving the Nets:
“I could have left with nothing,”
“It feels very, very good,”
"I really didn’t want to celebrate over the weekend. I just wanted
to make sure nothing went wrong, so I didn’t get too excited.
“Today is the first time I’ve been able to smile.”
“When you have a team playing for a lottery pick, they’re going to
play younger guys and different combinations and look at guys who
can create their own shots,”
“That’s not my type of game.”

How do draft pick slots work for playoff teams. Does it go by overall record or by when you’re eliminated in the playoffs?

If Shawne is a troubled guy, I’m not quite that worried about it, seeing as he’s a former teammate of CDR. If those two get along, CDR is so committed to winning that Shawne will buy in as well. Looking forward to seeing how this works out.

lol why the heck would the jazz do that?
Boozer comes off the books this year anyway.

This makes me think Thorn/Kiki is not hot on Boozer.

Would Phoenix be into Josh Boone for Robin Lopez? How about Yi and Dudley for Robin Lopez? Yi and Brook are having a hard time playing together. I would be willing to bet that Robin and Brook have better chemistry.

Dirt, we can get a lot more for Yi than R.Lopez.

I’m just very into having twin’s playing together in the NBA. I think it would be cool.

My guess is that once Robin becomes a free agent the Nets will be tops on the list of teams he would like to sign with. Pheonix does not seem all that high on him. I am thinking he will be Brook’s backup for many years.

if the nets give interest in robin the suns will know that they can pretty much take what ever they want for him.

@Johny;
“This makes me think Thorn/Kiki is not hot on Boozer”.
I was thinking the same thing.

as the nets future progresses i feel like it becomes blurier. Now were talking about aquiring robin lopez? my first matter to address is having a good draft, obviously getting john Wall would help that. Wall is just what we need. A pass first point guard who has a shot, great athletiscm, and outstanding court awarness. also, his speed is ideal.
After that, we find possible trades for harris and get top notch or second string FAs.
And BTw, is it required that if we sign a player it has to be to a max contract? If we get Lee is there some sorta rule he has to recive money LeBron would recieve? Everybody’s been talkin gabout this lately

Robin Lopez? Has it come to this???
I don’t Proky thinks like you guys… Thank the Lord…

A Jason Kidd team would never be as bad as we are now!
by JustinNJ on Jan 13, 2010 8:07 PM EST reply actions
I would like Robin too, but he would split time at backup C and sometime at PF. If playing together then Brook would be better suited to play the role of PF.
As such, I doubt if Nets would be interested in replacing Yi’s minutes with Robin. Nets want to draw the defense away from basket. They won’t give up Yi now unless it brought Bosh to Nets – which wouldn’t happen if the Lakers deal with Bynum is still on the table.
Besides, if Nets are still aiming for better DLee (if Wall is draft pick), then Robin wouldn’t work out.
Regarding Ronnie’s question about draft picks, I guess the answer is that if Dallas has the 5 best overall record after the 82nd game, then they (Nets) get the 25th pick.
The interesting part is “break” between the last playoff team in the East and the team that just missed the playoffs in the West.
Knicks could get 16th pick if they make just make the playoffs, but like the 11th pick if they just miss the playoffs (current spot)

The Knicks ain’t going to get their pick. Utah is… LOL

@Mike
Right;
I’m referring to Nets getting the Knicks pick from Utah if they take on AK47’s contract in a trade before Feb. 18.
