Who's Next? Looks Like Boone

In the past week, the Nets have waived Rafer Alston and Sean Williams, traded Eduardo Najera and acquired Kris Humphries, Chris Quinn, Shawne Williams, a second round pick and $640,000 in cash. Fred Kerber says they're "shopping Josh Boone (interest, nothing close), Tony Battie (some interest) and Bobby Simmons (not much interest). Figure Boone goes next."

who would they be getting back?

by Doug on Jan 11, 2010 3:25 PM EST reply actions

Never understood what was wrong w/Boone as a back up c. Hope we keep him.

by BrooklynJohnny on Jan 11, 2010 3:32 PM EST reply actions

He has had 4 years to learn to shoot and he hasn’t. That is what is wrong with Boone as a backup C.

by mt57 on Jan 11, 2010 3:36 PM EST reply actions

he sucks…he is useless on the basketball court. all the missed lay-ups and easy garbadge points. all the failed finishes one foot away from the hoop. it all adds up lol

by The Black Prince on Jan 11, 2010 3:45 PM EST reply actions

I don’t see the logic of dumping both Battie and Boone at the same time. Either one or the other but not both, I know the season is a wash but we still need some bodies up front

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jan 11, 2010 3:51 PM EST reply actions

I’d love to move him to Portland for one of the guys they have stashed in Europe.

by ShawnG on Jan 11, 2010 3:57 PM EST reply actions

Maybe we move Boone and/or Battie for “bodies up front”, just like we did with the Najera/Humphries deal.

by Mike on Jan 11, 2010 4:00 PM EST reply actions

Boone is needed, he’s the Wallace-esque rebound king (i.e., all he does is catch boards). Dude does his job. Sorry, I disagree wholeheartedly. Unless he’s a locker room cancer too, which I doubt, I don’t see any reason why we’d dump him. If we do, I’d be pissed and hoping we’d get something of value for him at the very least.

Booney-Tunes deserves to STAY!

by sublicon on Jan 11, 2010 4:00 PM EST reply actions

It would be a miracle if they can get anything decent for Battie.

Come on Thorn, work your magic!

by Mike on Jan 11, 2010 4:02 PM EST reply actions

@Mr. Dollar Bills
WHy do you assume they won’t get a big man in return for one or both of them. They offered Battie for Darko.

What they need is a young big man or a big small forward. Names that come into my head include Darko, Dorell Wright, Joe Alexander, Andray Blatche. Boone straight up for Alexander works, but adds about $300,000 to this year’s payroll. Battie works straight up for Milicic, but adds $550,000 to this year’s payroll. Wright is reasonably cheap at $2.9 million would need some real permutations to get him. All those are expiring deals. Blatche has two more years on his contract after this one…not good. Also, the trade exception is down to $1.31 million limiting options.

by Net Income on Jan 11, 2010 4:04 PM EST reply actions

Simmons: $10.5 million expiring contract
Battie: $6.3 million expiring contract
Boone: $2.05 million contract w/ option next year

Trade any or all of these contracts for some decent talent in return. Nothing more attractive than an expiring contract. Clear the cap and make way for some bad-mama-jammas.

by Oktay on Jan 11, 2010 4:09 PM EST reply actions

Ah, thanks for reminding me, I forgot about Darko.

Out of that group, I like Blatche the best but the contract is a problem. When he plays starter minutes though, Andray averages 10ppg 7rpg but w/ Humphries likely to pick up his option in the summer it’d be best to look elsewhere.

Joe Alexander would be an intriguing player to have on the roster at SF, but I heard that he’s injured.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jan 11, 2010 4:12 PM EST reply actions

alexander has shown nothing in this league at all. period!

what about travis outlaw from portland?!

you dont need to have a back up center who can shoot a lot of starting centers can’t shoot

by suke it on Jan 11, 2010 4:53 PM EST reply actions

I will be sad to see Boone go. A personal favorite of mine.

I think he’d fit as a deep bench player… we’re gonna need some bench folks next year. Ah well.

by Paul B on Jan 11, 2010 5:08 PM EST reply actions

Is it strange that they’re trying to trade evrybody for expiring contracts so we could get two max guys next year.if we spend all that on 2 guys how will we fill out the rest of the team, as it is we will have what, 7 guys coming off the books. There will be a lot of vacant spots to fill. Just sayin’.

by t-bone on Jan 11, 2010 5:22 PM EST reply actions

Boone may be of some value to a team that needs a big man, (i.e. Portland or Denver). Best I can see if obtaining a second round pick for him.

by Adam on Jan 11, 2010 5:24 PM EST reply actions

@ T-Bone

I have no idea, so without actually thinking about it i’ll just say they will afford players the same way Boston does.

by Boomdog on Jan 11, 2010 6:28 PM EST reply actions

I would not be happy seeing Boone dealt. I believe that he has a spot on this team as a future big man rotation player off the bench. If this team has championship aspirations in the future, having quality bigs on the bench is a necessity.

I am a big fan of Joe Alexander. His stats are misleading because of his lack of basketball experience. He is definitely a project player, but if we can get him cheap, he is very low risk/high return. His athleticism is off the charts and his lack of stats last year is a direct result of lack of basketball experience. Give him another year or two (on this team he is a great fit) and the Nets could get real talent on their hands.

Darko also makes sense as a remainder of the season try out. He was a #2 pick in the draft. He would be a great backup to Brook as a true center and could probably be resigned next season relatively cheaply.

by Ryan243 on Jan 11, 2010 6:37 PM EST reply actions

As mentioned above, I really like Travis Outlaw. I don’t know what it would take, but, that would be a great pick up.

by JustinNJ on Jan 11, 2010 6:53 PM EST reply actions

I have to admit the Nets are doing the right thing. Sean Williams, Josh Boone, altson are really players that I will waive.

@JustinNJ

The only person that we can trade for Outlaw is Lopez or Harris. I don’t even think Portland will take Yi for Outlaw.

by Seeker on Jan 11, 2010 6:58 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t mind Yi and our Dallas pick for Outlaw. We would, however, need to find another PF.

by JustinNJ on Jan 11, 2010 7:26 PM EST reply actions

seriously? people on here want boone to stay? seriously?

by HLC on Jan 11, 2010 7:47 PM EST reply actions

I say, after Boone it’s Devin Harris!!!

by Panareal on Jan 11, 2010 10:47 PM EST reply actions

I used to think that Devin is a shoot first PG and does not fit with the team The problem is we do not have enough people thay can shoot now. And those can shoot a little better cannot play defense like Brook, Yi, and CDR. Don’t know when Lee will get out of his slump. T Will can’t shoot, period…. Forget about trading for need. Wait till summer and do it thru draft and FA. Oh, by the way, can we trade coaches?

by bill on Jan 11, 2010 11:45 PM EST reply actions

@Paul B

“I will be sad to see Boone go. A personal favorite of mine.”

+1

Keep Josh!

by AndrĂ©s on Jan 12, 2010 5:17 AM EST reply actions

Wizards need a PG. Caron Butler or Mike Miller and Audray Blatche or JaVale McGee would fit the description of an All Star (loosely defined)and a young asset.
