Hayes Expected to Return Saturday

After missing 31 games, Jarvis Hayes has been cleared to play Saturday vs. the Cavs. Hayes went down with a hamstring tear on opening night. With only Eduard Najera (back) still hurting, the Nets should have 14 players ready to play. Meanwhile, most of the discussion Friday was about a report that Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittendon pulled guns on each other in the Wizards' locker room on Christmas Eve.

Hayes and Yi are too BIG components to this team. I said once Hayes went down in game 1 it would be huge and we ended up losing that game. When Yi went down I went back to the game last year against the Bucks when he got hurt. I believe we were 19-19 and then lost like 5 of 6 or something like that when he went down. I am looking for the Nets to play the Cavaliers very very hard on Saturday.
I really hope we bring Hayes back on next season and for a couple seasons to come, hes still got a lot left in the tank and can be great coming off the bench.

Someone said in another thread that this bench sucks and if it wasnt for dooling we would have 0 bench scoring. we’ll he’s right. dooling and hayes did most of the scoring off the bench last year…both big components of this team.

Imagine we win against Cavs
I mean its possible Yi, Brook, Dooling, Harris, and Hayes will carry the team

Jarvis gives us a much needed shooter off of the bench.

@ Andy
Yup 100% correct. In my opinion minus the starters, Hayes, Dooling, Twill, and Boone everyone else can hit the road next year.

I know Arenas is considered a great shooter but this is ridiculous…

Jarvis gives us a much needed shooter off the bench.
Arenas gives the Wiz a shooter in the locker room!
Dooling and Hayes were our 4th and 5th best players last year.
(VC, Harris, Lopez, Dooling, Hayes)

I guess Arenas and teammate are just being good citizens “exercising” their 2nd amendment rights.
I’m just glad nobody blocked the shot.
Suspension city here we come…

I guess they will be changing the teams name back to the Washington Bullets.

Gambling and Guns, a great combination.
I think I have a new favorite team.
The Nets seem dull and boring compared to these clowns.
Hey maybe we can trade for Arenas and bring some veteran leadership to the Nets. He makes are guys look like a bunch of choir boys in comparison.

If the story is true Stern could not come down hard enough on these guys. With Jarvis back we have our best shooter without a gun.

Obvious lack of communication. Coach told them to get ready to play the Heat……….

I’d like to beat the Cavs to make a statement to Lebron that we have a very young and talented team….

Najera should almost retire.
Yeah, Hayes.
Now our rotation
Lopez / Boone
Yi / Hassell
CDR / Hayes
Lee / T-Will
Harris / Dooling

According to our local experts, Hayes, Dooling and Boone will not be kept, in order to reach the $25 million cap space.
I suppose they could be picked back up at the end of the summer, but I doubt they would be available.
A lot should depend on whether Nets get #1 pick.
This free agency talk is going to hurt many teams. Other than Bosh going to Miami, I don’t even expect any other Big movement in July. I expect LeBron to stay with Cleveland for another year, unless he wins a Championship (30% chance).

Hassell’s time has come and gone at least until T-Will thinks he has a midrange game again anyway.

@ Jerry25
Here is the thing with that. If they get rid of Boone, and Hayes and say draft a PG in the draft and let Dooling walk, than we have no back up sf and no back up center/pf. I believe at Hayes and Dooling are both players that will play for decent salaries and plau above and beyond their pay grade. Boone is up in the air but I promise you won’t find 2 better back ups in the league for the prices they will want. They will be the key to a great Nets team.

Maybe Arenas could pull a gun on the Nets and threaten to shoot if they don’t win 20 games?
by supernetsfan on Jan 2, 2010 3:41 AM EST reply actions
Give Hayes a few games to get his legs and timing, and TWILL takes a seat next to Sean for the rest of the season. TWILL needs to set up home in the gym, and do shooting drills 18 hours a day, until training camp next year. I just hope with Hayes back, we don’t have to see Hassell anymore. Next year, I’d like to see Joe Johnson playing SF for us. With some other secondary roster moves, he could be our ticket to the playoffs, him and John Wall. Having the worst record at the end of the season, and the most ping pong balls, is an accomplishment, sort of….

@psychonetsfan34
I agree. This whole spectacle of maximizing cap space could backfire and the Nets could be worse come October than they would be on July 1.
LeBron is going to go through the motions of being wined and dined by various teams. However, he could be damaging those teams since he will probably stay at Cleveland for another year if he doesn’t win a Championship.
The biggest asset that Jay-Z has, is if he could tip off Proky at the end of the playoffs, as to LeBron’s intentions.
I’m not sure what the protocol (if any) would be to return Boone or Hayes at this point. Guess NI is saving that for future Blogs. We know that Dooling is under contract, if not bought out, which I hope doesn’t happen.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Boone return, but everyone agrees he wasn’t worth 3 million and I doubt anyone else will give him much more than 2 million. If Boone would be open to take free throw shooting lessons from Rick Barry then he might be worth keeping. Barry shot 90% shooting underhanded with super backspin. Noone wants to be called “a girl”.
The Celtics were fortunate to be able to decimate their team in order to get 2 Stars and then get decent “fill-ins” before the start of their season.

Arenas should be banned from the NBA for pulling that stunt

@jerry25;
Maybe Jay-Z has already “tipped off” Proky. I can’t believe LeBron would lead on his “best friend and mentor” until the final moments. Either he’s told Jay-Z no way, or he’s left the door wide open. If the door is wide open the Nets have a better chance then most teams in landing LeBron. That is good enough for me, at this point.
by Mike on Jan 2, 2010 12:04 PM EST reply actions
@Mike
I truly don’t believe LeBron knows where he will be playing next year. That’s why I wrote “at the end of the playoffs”.
All I know is that LeBron is determined to win a championship this year. I am also convinced he thinks it would be something special to be “King of Brooklyn”, but he would only do that if he won a championship first.
That is why I expect LeBron to accept a year extension to stay in Cleveland for another try at a championship (until he is convinced Nets are good enough and at the same time get closer to Brooklyn move for the 2011-2012 playoff?).

I thought Hayes was ready, so how come he didn’t play today? We could have used him instead of Hassel. No offense, Hassel has been great with all the injuries this season, but Hayes would add more of a shooting touch and helped us today when the nets went cold in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
by JJ22 on Jan 2, 2010 5:46 PM EST reply actions
Put him in at the three spot asap.
J.Hayes when healthy is a great outside shooter along with being a very good passer of the ball.
Now we can move Yi to the second unit for balance scoring from a ten man rotation.
We also can now put C.DRoberts back to the two spot and develop that 1/2 combo of Harris/Roberts for next year. Continuity has to start growing now.
Harris/Roberts
Dooling/Lee
J.Hayes we wish you good health with that serious hamstring injury.
