TWill: "I Want Rookie of the Year"

Terrence Williams hasn't made any big announcements, but his Twitter page says it all. All summer, TWill has peppered the page with tweets of shooting practices, lap swimming, "euro-step" work, many posted early morning or late night often explaining why he's up: "I need that 'ROY'" or "ROY I needs" or "'ROY' won't come without work". Monday, he posted an image from a video game with him as "ROY".

I am such a fan of this guy. He is going to bring some swagger to the Nets – and they have not had swagger since losing KMart.

The season needs to start already, can’t wait to see this team play.

I’m not implying anything, but I know 3 players in the history of the NBA with that kind of attitude and determination.
MJ
KB
LBJ

I got transferred to London for work. I am so upset Im going to miss watching this team this year. Im in NY this week though, and all amped up to go to the open practice on Saturday.
I really just want to see what CDR and TWill do on the court. And Im excited to see Lee live as well.
I still hope that we end up with 2 lottery picks though – I think being outside of the playoffs and just developing our youngsters is the better course of action for this season then playing veterans to be a 7 or 8 seed.
I also would like to see the Nets turn Alston, Battie and Dooling into a mixture of either draft picks or young players.

Nets now have 9 picks in the next three years which is as more than any other team. (So the Nets now have more cap space and more draft picks than any other team). Only one of the picks is protected, the 2012 Warrior pick and it’s now lightly protected after the Marcus Williams trade was restructured.
I would prefer younger players now, rather than picks. YOu can have too many picks, as the Blazers now realize. They have two first round picks in Europe, both very good if not great players. They may never get here.

I prefer the draft picks. You can trade for young players, but no one is going to give up young potential stars (unless you are trading a star player like Vince). At least the draft picks, if they are first rounders, have a chance of turning into gold. A guy like Rondo was drafted in the low 20s, and the Celtics were able to trade for the Suns pick in order to grab him. You get enough chips, eventually you may be able to strike it rich. I also think you can use draft picks for more than just selecting picks. You can trade them in for cash – hopefully we wont need to be doing this if Prokhy takes over, or you can use them as incentive for other teams to take on your junk. I personally believe that if Najera is impeding our ability to sign a second big free agent next year, we will have the ability of trading him into another team’s cap space if we add a pick or two into the deal. That could come in handy for sure.

Freak athlete + crazy determination = success 95% of the time.

I’m loving this determination. He along with the improvement of Yi and Lee is goign to ensure we surprise alot of people.

I agree with Chris about trading for picks. Assume that we end up dealing Alston and Battie at the deadline this year (I do not think this is going out on a limb here) and are able to turn them each into either a low level first round pick or even second round picks.. You can now package these picks with some of our other picks to move up. Dealing a young player is more difficult than moving picks.
I would like to see us get a young guy like Daquean Cook, who is simply a good young shooter with athleticism. You can never have too many shooters in the backcourt – even if he does not become Eddie House and is more Luther Head. But I’m not sure that dealing for him is any better than using a late round pick on a similiar type player.
While the Nets have an abundance of picks and cap space over the next few years – they are putting together the right building blocks with a pg, center and young athletic wings. We are closer than many realize to being a legitimate contender.
And Chris – I work in finance. I trade fx and commodities for a proprietary trading desk and our team has always been based in London. Due to some layoffs in NY – the senior guys in London have decided to have me work there instead…Following the Nets in London means NetsDaily as they don’t get YES over there, and I doubt we have many nationally televised games this year!

trade the picks to supplement the talent we already have in the long run
And Good luck to T-Will. A ROY Campaign from this kid means that the Nets are going to be world killers by 2011

hey what game was that nba live 10 or nba2k10 ?? I wish twill becomes the next surprise in this draft and hopefully is this year´s ROY!! GO NETS!!!
by alxnj on Sep 29, 2009 3:51 PM EDT reply actions
@Ryan243 – from one Londoner to another get ready to make Nets Daily your main source for following the Nets as I don’t think there were any t
televised NBA games shown in the UK until the play off finals and those sfart in the middle of the night given the time difference with east and west coast. You might be able to catch some games at the Sports Cafe on Haymarket which is where I go to watch NFL games. Enjoy your year in London

I dont want to sound negative, cuz I think T-Will having an all around game is excellent as opposed to just being a scorer, but I’d rather he just concentrate on getting better and becoming a true NBA player as opposed to concentrating on an award. When guys get wrapped up in awards sometimes that becomes the soul focus and everyone knows ROY usually goes to scorers, so if thats all hes after we wont benefit from his all around game enough.
by TheMann on Sep 29, 2009 5:04 PM EDT reply actions
not nessecarily, jason kidd wasnt a scorer and he wonthe award, even though he shared it with grant hill. twill could average these number 12,8 and 6 and win the award.

He better work on those shooting percentages or no one will pass him the ball!

I’d be shocked if a healthy Blake Griffin didn’t win ROY, but I love the swagger on “Thriller” Williams.

As a long-time University of Louisville fan, I can tell you that Nets fans are in for a treat. This guy is amazing to watch. Definite freak athlete. Occassionally made some bonehead plays, but generally was the best player on the floor.
