Nets Get Warriors' 2nd Rounder in 2011, Less Protection on 1st Rounder

Fred Kerber has new details on the deal the Nets have struck with the Warriors on the pick that was originally sent west for Marcus Williams. The pick's been pushed back from 2011 to 2012. In return, the Nets get the Warriors' second rounder in 2011. Also the protection on the first rounder is reduced. It's now top-7 protected in 2012 and 2013, and top-6 protected in 2014. If the Warriors are so bad that the Nets still don't get the pick in 2014, they'll get second rounders in 2014 and 2016 instead.

Would all these future draft picks we can have two teams. One for Brooklyn and one for N.J.

This is lame. I demand immediate satisfaction! Or at least 1 year off. But 2016!?? Eeesh.

Nice trade for the Nets since GS could likely be in the #5 to #12 draft spot for a while.

2016!!! The player the Nets draft in 2016 might be in 5th grade right now. Maybe he should take Russian as a second language when he gets into high school.

I don’t like it. It gives the Warriors plenty time to become a non-lottery team.

This is just very comical. Golden State got nothing from Marcus, and got nothing for him. AND like 5 years from now, maybe we get a #1. Boy, they must feel stupid.
I’d make the SAME DEAL for Sean or Boone right now! In fact, I’d take a straight #2 for either of them, or both of them, just to get them off the roster. Suits for them to wear on the sidelines, while they are inactive will cost each of them a pretty penny this season. That is, unless they wear the same suit every game. You can’t just buy suits in their sizes at Men’s Wearhouse! I can just imagine what dress shoes must cost them, in size 18!!!!

OK, so if the Warriors draft 1-7 in 2011-13 and 1-6 in 2014, then we just end up with two second rounders? Seems unlikely that they can draft that low four years in a row, but it would stink if we only ended up in the second round.

that is correct, but I have always thought this is more of a trade asset than anything else, and it’s now more valuable.

Are we getting their 2011 second rounder as part of this trade? It seems like it in the Kerber article….

The Nets are on a roll accumulating draft picks. It may be valuable in future trades. Go Nets!!!

@Sam
Thanks, Sam. Kerber updated his post and we didn’t notice. All changed. This is now the third explanation of this deal.

I think both of them will have a good chance this season. I hope Boone and Sean back up Yi and Brook this year, instead of done vets like Battie and Eddie, who are NOT part of our future. Josh and Sean could still make strides.
Josh used to be a double-double machine when he started for us a couple of seasons ago. And Sean could be a very valuable defensive big, he was helping us a lot before he was arrested in Colorado. Devin said it best, he really need SWAT.
I don’t think Battie’s bloated contract has any value, so I think we won’t be able to move him and he’ll be bought out after the deadline. I don’t think there’s a team out there that would take Najera’s contract of our hands either.

Those second round draft picks sometimes can be very usefull/valuable. You can swing for the fences with a second round pick.
