Heat Interested in Net Point Guards

The Miami Herald reports that the Nets have spoken to the Heat about New Jersey's two back-up point guards, Rafer Alston and Keyon Dooling. Pat Riley has been looking to add a veteran floor general so that he doesn't have to depend on second-year point Mario Chalmers. According to the Herald, nothing came of the talks but "the door was left open" for something in the future.

Id rather not trade either guy but if I had a choice id rather keep Keyon. His on ball defense is what we need this year. And I dont see anything id want for Alston. Unless its Dwade lol

I doubt anything happens, but if we trade a PG, I hope it’s Skip.

honestly i hope the trade doesn’t go down. each player can help in their own way to help develop this young team.

@Mike
That drug-adled reincarnation of Eddie Griffin? No thanks

Keep both unless they are looking to part with a decent piece, which I doubt they are.

@Paolo;
Everybody deserves a second chance. Especially a 20 year old kid. If the Nets could get a talented player like Beasley without giving up too much, you would have to seriously consider it.

Unless they trade Lee or Yi, Lopez the nets will never get there hands on Beasly. Lets be realistic.

@ Everyone;
Would you trade Yi + Alston for Beasley?
by Mike on Sep 2, 2009 11:49 AM EDT reply actions
I dont really think the Heat has anything we would want. Beasley is the only option worth looking at and I doubt they give him up after 1 year even if hes in rehab. Plus I dont think he’d be a good fit in the NJ/NY area. Let’s find a better trade partner.
by TheMann on Sep 2, 2009 11:52 AM EDT reply actions
@keithmoon not only do the Nets get worse with that trade, they are also taking on more salary than they are sending out. So that trade wouldn’t work

If I were a drug addled reincarnation of Mike Dolan. Sean can be our 2nd chance guy for this year.

But doesn’t it clear cap space in 2010? isn’t haslam a work horse pf, which is kind of what we need when Yi comes out?
plus we get rid of Najra who has 3 years left!
by keithmoon on Sep 2, 2009 12:26 PM EDT reply actions
@ronnie, c’mon you cannot seriously equate beasley with sean. at his best, sean can only be a shotblocker who can play some D and not get fouled out in 10 min. you can’t even give sean away – no teams wants him.
by JohnY on Sep 2, 2009 12:30 PM EDT reply actions
I agree with TheMann. The only young players they might be willing to trade are Wright and maybe Cook, and we already have Lee, TWill and CDR.

Why does everyone wrestle over these crazy trade options like YI for Beasley?
Beasley does not play defense – even says he never learned to play defense. Nets need to up the defensive intensity if they are going anywhere. “Devil Muscle” is no defender, but he is at least as good as Beasley.
Beasley is a head case – reports suggest his rehab is about more than just recreational drugs. Nets need sponsors and/or investors = Nets need money. YI brings China. Beasley brings nothing or even scares away sponsors.
Beasley needs to get shots. Nets need to develop Lee and Lopez and TWILL and CDR…. YI is less needy than Beasley and more likely to be a useful supporting player.
Nets need to attract a good free agent in 2010 to make a quick leap up the standings. Beasley will not be a free agent magnet. And Beasley costs more in terms of his full contract committment so worse in 2010 cap space and beyond.
In summary….Devil Muscle crushes Beasley with a full suplex off the top rope.

@jay
HAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAH your kidding right? you wouldnt trade yi for beasley? that has got to be a joke, reallistically we would have to give up yi and cdr or twill and pick for beasley and honestly i would dop it in a heart beat. You guys say beasleys to risky and immature. Dude if hes on the court him lopez and devin would be the scariest upcoming duo in the league, you guys complain about mediocritty well you guys and nets management seem content with it, if you wanna be great u have to take risks!!!! Not to mention lebron/wade/bosh/amare would be way more attracted if we had beasley come on now you guys cant be serious

@Alex
HOHOHOHOHOHOHO….NO….I’m serious dude.
If you are a superstar would you rather play next a ball hogging stoner or the guy who gets you millions of all-star votes every year and can walk you into endorsements deals in the land of 1.3 billion crazy basketball fans?
Beyond that, there are very few transformational players in the NBA. Individuals who take a team to championship level. Nets had Kidd in this prime. Go beyond the recent champion winners (Kobe, Wade, Duncan, KG) and you get a very short list – even Dirk is not transformational as Dallas refuses to learn. Beyond the list above you have Lebron, Durant, CP3, Howard and maybe Roy and Carmelo who you would truly say can lead a team to a championship one day.
If you can not get one of those guys than you are better to try and develop the talent and build a “team” – and we are ideally positioned with our young team full of potential and our cap space to give it a shot. Trading mediocrity for another type of mediocrity is what keeps teams stuck in the middle for decades.
Beasley will be an average quality starter on an average quality team his entire career…..which might be shorter than he thinks if he does not get his head out of his…

@Vinsanity
that would actually be a pretty good trade. the financials match up, and they would both save some money this year as well as get rid of najera’s contract
by Paolo on Sep 2, 2009 1:48 PM EDT reply actions
I don’t think anybody wants Najera now. Not one of the best FA signings for Thorn and company, to say the least. I wonder, can Najera retire if he is not able to play anymore? Maybe the Nets can make him an assistant coach.

With DH, KD & RA, we are finally properly stocked at the PG position, after years of not having enough depth there. I would not mess with that in order to make Miami better.
Yi for Beasley straight up, yeah baby! They are not giving up Beasley so quit beating that dead horse.
The only player Miami has that is both available and attractive is Haslem and that’s only after you drank a six-pack and put the bag over his head.
by John at the Jersey Shore on Sep 2, 2009 3:35 PM EDT reply actions
Beasley – he’s not going anywhere right now – particularly not for anything the Nets could offer at this time. Miami would be smart to hold him for now. You know that c’mon will ya?.
Jay, you’d be lonley in your opinion if you think teams wouldn’t rather gamble on Beasley instead of Yi. Not a knock on Yi. They both have gaping holes, haven’t doone anything, and may do nothing, but I’m just sayin that as of now, even with the issues, Beasley is more valuable. Maybe Yi can change this this upcoming year (please God Oh please!).
by Sherlock Holmes on Sep 2, 2009 6:20 PM EDT reply actions
We need to move one of them. Harris will play 40+ minutes a game, so even with just one backup they will need to play a lot of 2 guard and that will take away time for Lee, CDR, and Williams.
by Kevin on Sep 2, 2009 6:21 PM EDT reply actions
As mentioned above, we finally have great depth at the PG position. Why give that up without even starting the season with all of them? Worst case, we trade one of them before the deadline. Unless, we can get a significant player or players in return, we should stand pat. Miami, will not give up Beasley or Haslem. That does not leave many options.

Speaking of drugs, those of you even bringing up Michael Beasley’s name in any deal with the Nets might want to undo the belt strapped around your biceps and put the needle down
