Lopez: "I Think We Can Go Somewhere"

Brook Lopez said it again. Despite punditry that the Nets are headed for a long season, the Nets' 21- year-old center talked to Hoopshype about his "attainable goal" for 2009-10: "To be a very good playoff team. We have really good young talent, but also a little bit of experience. So it’s a good combination and I think we can go somewhere." He also talk about his pal Ryan Anderson.

Young teams dont really win in the NBA, look at the thunder and all the young talent they had.

I view the Nets as a Thunder/Blazers hybrid. I think we can do good.
BTW, watch out for the Thunder this year…

If he can be 70% of Tim Duncan next season, then we can go somewhere.

Having a brother that competes with you as you grew up, is something that I acknowledge to be a blessing. It gives you a healthier personality as far as your talent. Really when they drafted Brook I already see a player who will be great. Patrick Ewing was great because he is big and very athletic, but unfortunately did not get a ring. Brook is not great but he improves tremendously as the league goes on. But I know in the past 30 years you must have a great center or at least very competetive to be in the championship. You have Watson, Olajowoun, Shaq, Parish, Wallace, Catwright, Kareem, Moses Malone, Duncan, Lambeer. Most likely Brook will reach Laimbeer and Catwright ability.
So the question who is close enough to reach the level of both Shaq and Duncan have reached. One player is Howard but who else, it looks like Brook is in the mix now.

It’s not about Lopez or Harris…as long as theyre healthy. It’s about Yi and Lee and to a lesser extent TWill and CDR…some key veterans, particularly Hayes, Alston and Battie.
Say what you want about the Thunder (who have yet to win), but they still do not have a center or point guard as good as Lopez or Harris. Theyre talking about Green at the PF.
Westbrook is a combo guard with turnover issues. Krstic, who I hope returns to his Nets level, isn’t as good. Ibaka and Mullens?

“A good playoff team?”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Ok now that I got that out… You gotta love Brook’s confidence. I hope the team follows his lead and puts out the effort to at least TRY to make the playoffs. Easier to say it in August than in the middle of January about to embark on a 4 game west coast trip on a 2-game losing streak.

We have anchors locked in for the next few years at the two most important positions – PG and Center. Not only solid players, but good people. How many teams would not trade their PG for Devin today – maybe five. How many teams would not trade their Center for Brook today – maybe five. Surround them with athletic talent (CDR, TWill, Lee, Yi) and let them grow.
The Nets will be better on defense this year if for no other reason then they know they have to be. The only thing standing between the Nets and a good year is someone to score besides Devin and Brook. Has to be Lee or Yi.

The ^ post by Net Income hit the nail on the head from my perpsective. Big spotlights on Yi especally, and Lee to a lesser extent. Not as much is expected from CDR or TWill than those two from what I can tell. Not that contributions from CDR and TWll, and even dare I say Sean Willimans and Boone, wouldn’t be welcome.

The players on the thunder don’t have playoff expierence like the nets players do

This is reality check. A second-year who says stuff out of passion, setting up the team for failure.
I like Lopez as much as the next guy, but he was no more than an average NBA player in the frontline. He was not "dominant’ so to speak, and I do not believe one summer will make him better than 80% of the frontline players in the league. He needs to just work on his game, and take his time to develop his skills and maturity.
You couldn’t even be a playoff team with a shooting guard who’s better than 95% of the shooting guards in the league. How could you say you can be a playoff team? Besides Harris, I do not know if there is one player on the Net team who’d be considered as an “above average” player.

Why are all you Nets “fans” so sinical? I get enough anti Nets crap everywhere else, so when I come to a fan website like this and see the worst of the worst, I just don’t get it. If you don’t like the Nets why do you come here?

@ JuliusIrving
Brook grew up playing with a 7 foot twin brother.
Also Brook has to older brother that are both over 6’ 5"
Theres a reason Brook played in all 82 games
His body is used to the banging.
He is used to finishing over someone his size.
I’m not saying Brook will go for 20 10 every night
but he is definetly capable on any night to do that
Brook is very athletic and graceful for a 7 footer
vs
DHoward still looks clumsy and it looks like he’s thinking on offense.
Brook will take a step this year and Yi probably will too.
Just imagine if our young guys play well.
Twill can rebound, pass, and defend 3 positions
Lee will score and defend
CDR score,pass,defend 3 positions
Brook, DHarris, Rafer,KDooling are solid
With so many young players and players on the last year of a contract, Everyone on this team has something to prove.
LFrank
Rod Thorn
KiKi
Lebron James in a Nets uniform is a reality.
Rumor is Nike will give hime extra $ for playing in NY
True or not
Lebron can make more $ playin in NYC than Cleveland (no matter which team gets him).
But i would be embarrased to play on the Knicks.
The Nets look good NOW.
Imagine a Top 5 and a Top 15 draft pick in 2010 draft
and 2 more 1st rounders in 2011
Hey Jigga,Hova,or whatever Jay Z is calling himself
get on your job! start recruiting.
gives us room to move a DHarris…..

Brook is the man! Love his confidence. Can’t wait to see him dunk on people left and right this year…especially getting some revenge on Dwayne Wade.

who’s to say we can’t be like the 76ers a few years ago when they made some noise by making the playoffs

I think if the Nets continue to build around a guy like Lopez, we don’t need LeBron James. that may sound like an outlandish statement, but I’d MUCH rather build a good team around a class act like Lopez than someone as selfish, immature, and spoiled as LeBron as. I’m a fan of the NETS, and if we get LeBron, it won’t be the Nets anymore, it’ll be LeBron James (oh and the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets) vs. whatever team they’re playing. and I couldn’t follow a team like that.
So here’s to Rod Thorn/Bruce letting Rod/or ideally a new owner letting Rod do the right thing and build a championship team around Lopez and Harris. Obviously we still need more pieces and another go-to scorer, but in no way are the Nets the worst team in basketball as all the critics just LOVE to say, to be able to put down Jersey again.

The only place this team is going is making a left at the corner, through the bathroom door and face to face with the toilet bowl like someone who had a bad combination of dark and clear liquor.

Lopez will break some ankles this season.
15 ppg, 10 rpg, 2.5 blkpg
I wonder how far Brook, Harris, Lee and Yi will go!!!
I hope to see them in playoffs; even if they are the 8th seed.
but at the same time i want them to be top 3 in the coming Draft. I`ve Heard that there will be some good guys.
Go Nets Go!!!

Idc what people say. They say the nets will be the worst team in the east/nba, i don’t listen to that crap let them say whatever they want. Those analysts don’t know how good our players We will better than the knicks, we have a better lineup than them. Brook is a beast and he will be a beast next season
by Steven on Aug 10, 2009 12:39 AM EDT reply actions
Fans seem to favor our own young players, which I do not despise. But the reality is that every team has fans like that, and being better than the Knicks will bring nothing even close to a playoff spot. Would you just check exactly what kind of stats (i.e. actual productions) our young core put up last year?
Lopez was not a beast outside of his comparison with other rookies. He wasn’t even better than Troy Murphy for God’s sake. HIs improvement will mean a lot to the team, but let’s not get carried away. Without the space and attention Carter draws from other teams, he will have a lot less open dunks and layups. He’ll not have to make most of his shots and create some for himself, rather than simply “finishing”. Lee is (at best) an average shooting guard in the league. Yi is still very much under average, so is CDR. None of them are dominant in any ways.
I could name a few nice-looking young talents in every single team that struggled last season. It is us that should take a look at the talent-level around the league.

those are some good points, and yes perhaps it may be too early to tell with Brook, but he was the second best rookie behind Derrick Rose, and there’s no reason to not be optimistic about his growth, considering how much seems he cares about getting better and improving every game. Of course fans usually overrate the coming season, every year of the Kidd/Carter era for me was “this year I think they have the pieces to get to the Finals” and was pretty optimistic about certain guys getting better that never happened, ie Boone, Marcus Williams, even others I’ve completely forgotten. But as someone as said, every one else puts down the Nets so much, some one has to be optimistic, right?

again, people act like they are being the voice of reason, while pointing out the obvious. we’re not going to be a great team next season? wow, how did you figure that out? doesn’t mean you can’t be optimistic and look for positives. I guess you can look forward to your moral victory when the Nets have a bad season and you get to be right.
