Nets-Sixers Drop Another One in Orlando

The Nets have now lost their last seven summer league games after the Turnpikers fell to the Thunder, 83-62, in Orlando Thursday afternoon. OKC shot 60 percent from the field, and were led by Russell Westbrook and Byron Mullens, who combined for 37 points. Terrence Williams led the 'Pikers with 14 points on 6-13 shootings, adding five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block, but Chris Douglas-Roberts struggled for the second straight day, missing all four shots he took from the field.

What a horrible day for me Nets lose again thanks to the turn overs by T-will and also I was insulted by the commentators on live steam. Yet another game 0-4 thanks to t-will very selfish with the ball you can tell he is a ball hog and not a team player.

Randy the commentators know you? But again no one cares about summer league, so don’t look into this like its the future.

by Netsfan on Jul 9, 2009 5:46 PM EDT reply actions

How is he a ball hog? Your negative mood against Terrence Williams and the Nets is the reason why you were insulted. He had 5 assists and almost averages the most assists out of the Pikers. He was told by LFrank to be aggressive on offense anyways. I believe Twill was great all around once again.

@RG , I’m sorry dude you feel some frustration. If you have a season ticket you’ll be seeing most likely this guy playing. Better ask NETS if they can make Yi mimic MJ Moonwalk, maybe that will be more entertaining. Beat It.

Guys if we have T-BILL a guy that looks for a BILL a BUCK he will just hog the ball and probably give us a good 15 turn overs alone. I hope Frank makes the right move.

Again I was impressed by T-Will. He handles the ball like a pt guard and has the ability to get to the rim. He’s all over the place on d and plays with a ton of energy. GREAT pick Rod. CDR is going to have to pick up his D as well as find a way to get involved even if he’s not scoring. Summer camp may not mean much to most.. but it does to these guys that have to play…

This from his twitter:

The insufferable Dante and Galante were reading viewers’ emails aloud, and the general gist of Randy’s was that he feels disliked by the various commenters on this blog.

I’ll admit I chuckled, but about thirty seconds later they informed the listeners that Sixer fans were in for a treat this season watching Speights and T-Will play together(!), and I went back to wanting to throttle them.

Take it easy, gang. I always enjoy the discourse here.

I wonder if the NBA is aware how bad the announcers are, you’d they want to at least try to put some quality into it. I wonder how Randy’s brother is doing though, haven’t heard from him in a while.

I basically wanted to prove a point I know that I am not very liked on here, but I got this website out to the world and the mods should be very happy with me. Look at Bill Oreily he makes points that are TRUE and he gets picked on, joked on, and just yelled at. I am just like Bill I am making right points about the Nets I would say I am a pretty good critic.

I’ve been keeping up with the Summer League games, and I just can’t wait to see how bad our team really is this upcoming season. I can give props to T-Williams defense, but his turnover ratio is really bad. I still haven’t seen anything really impressing or anyone that standout more than others on the sixers/nets team. The games are unwatchable, it’s really that bad.

I was hoping to watch Courtney Lee play this summer, it might’ve given us a chance to see how he plays. I didn’t keep up with his progress during the regular season, except for the games he played during the playoffs. From what I saw from those games, he was a decent player, but seems to be overhyped in my opinion. I still remember when he missed that ally-oop that could’ve help them win that game.

I have also been keeping up with Ryan Andersons progress. He seems to be the only one that stands out, like a true NBA player. He seems more confident in his shots, and seemed to be playing at a higher level compare to last year.

Does anyone know whether Courtney Lee will be in any of the summer games this year?

by LetsGoNets on Jul 9, 2009 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

So much for you folks who were having CDR start instead of LEE…It’s summer league: nobody is as good as they look and nobody is as bad as they look. But the play by play is as awful as it sounds. What a couple of idiots. If the video were better, and I could tell who the players are, I would have muted the sound at the beginning and not waited till halftime.
I am surprised that Westbrook is playing summer league, he is a starter and a real NBA talent, no questions about him that need to be answered by summer league.

by Paul Erstein on Jul 9, 2009 7:24 PM EDT reply actions

@LetsGoNets
You do realize that lay-up by Lee was missed as Gasol touched the rim? It should have been goal-tending but instead the refs didnt call it (gee wonder why), watch the replay if you didnt see it. Gasol’s hand goes inside the net and touches the rim making it shake.

I wouldnt worry too much about T-Will’s turnover ratio as Devin will control the ball the most in the Nets offense, T-Will wont have as much pressure on him to make plays during the regular season. After a few games, he should naturally get it down anyway.

by TheMann on Jul 9, 2009 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

just like i said before, nets 15-67 and top 3 on next draft

just by seing some of their key players battling against poor shooting, low confidence and no trust on their skills i can see the Nets will not reach 20 wins.

by Net Income on Jul 9, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

Randy Oreens: You’re not being disliked. It’s your comments that made no sense. You tried to criticize players at times, but you couldn’t even get your facts striaght to support your argument.
So, do not compare yourself to those who make legitimate arguments but get picked on. You’re not even on the same league.
TWILL DID not have 15 turnovers. HE had three today.
Holiday had 4, Speights had 6, and Westrbook had 7.
THerefore, logically, it makes no sense to pick on TWIll’s turnovers today. He shot and defended well. There are more positives one can see from his performance today than the likes of Holiday, SPeights, and even CDR.
Therefore, your repeated attempts to rip TWill can only lead to one conclusion about your: HATER!

I dislike you Randy. I have no problem saying it…..

It’s one thing to be negative and provide some perspective, like, “T-Will won’t start until he learns to hit open shots.”

Fine.

But you come on here with all this negativity and say things like “he’s a ball hog, and he’ll have 15 turnovers and be worse than anyone EVER….”

It makes you sound dumb…..there’s no nicer way to say it. It is RIDICULOUS to say T-Will is ball-hog, because he’s just the opposite, and it’s a serious shortcoming of yours if you don’t see that….

So spare us the doom and gloom. No one thinks you OR Bill O’Reilly is right about ANYTHING, and it’s obnoxious that you feel the need to have this attention-grabbing persona.

I thought when they called you a jerk it was the funniest thing I’ve heard all week…..

Why is everyone here so obsessed with RA? I just don’t get it. Sure, he has his strengths, but he has some serious weaknesses that will prevent him from ever being more than a good role player. Why do people get crazy about summer league performances? Its probably more often than not that the players that perform well in the summer league actually underperform during the real season? Think about how many players light up the summer league and then suck during the regular season? The summer league fits RA’s game perfectly, so its not a surprise he’s doing well…put him up against NBA talent and it will be a completely different result.

Did you guys actually watch him play last year? He’s a very streaky shooter and has absoutely NO post up game, defense, mid-range game, or finishing ability around the rim…he is Brian Scalabrini with a little better jumper and a little worse post up game – that all!!!!!!!!!!

Twill’s game, by contrast, doesn’t translate as well to the summer league, but will make him a star in the NBA.

I guess this is how it has to be I make a very good comment on here its my PERSONAL opinion. I would consider myself a very fair critic because I give credit where credit is due. I respect your opinion on me and Bill but you have to admit I do make very good points. How can you defend T-Will when we are 0-4 with him? If he is a defense machine how do we keep getting beat by massive points? I thought we hit the jackpot when we said our goodbyes to VC and recieved Courtney Lee, Tony Battie, and Rafer Alston guys that actually made it to the playoffs and wanted to be there. Its my opinions Kidshizzle…George Bush was hated on a lot I compare myself to him we are both sucessful and are right.

@Randy,

You do bing entertainment value to the board even though I give your opinions little credibility. I don’t know you personally so you may be a nice guy. But your hoops opinions don’t seem to be accurate. Why would a rookie who has yet to play in a single game be able to affect a game that is split up between 2 squads with a bunch of players that may never see an NBA roster?

We’re not talking about the number one pick in the draft. We’re talking 11 and he is playing pretty well. The team in general sucks and the play of most of the players is bad. But I think you’ll be eating your words during the season. T Will will be a fan favorite…

Ofcourse T-Will will be a fan favorite because he will be stuck down our throats on TV. We will watch him along with the Nets try to get 15 wins this season. I remember Josh Boone and Sean Williams all the posters loved them and now they cant stand them. T-Will when you watch him he is a turn over machine. I dont know if he has butter fingers or what but he cant hold onto that ball.
I dont care how much D he played we still lost all 4 games, it makes me sick how CDR played his mind out all season and only played a few minutes this season and Twill who has played bad will be getting serious minutes.
No force of Nature and no act of god can save the team if Twill starts.

by Randy Oreens on Jul 9, 2009 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah. We’re going to make a new combined Summer League team with the LA Sparks and David Benoit.

by Joshua on Jul 9, 2009 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

Randy I like you dude. Keep posting comments – at least it creates dialogue. I probably post a ton of stuff that you guys read and are like “What is this guy talking about? Does he know anything? He is an idiot”. Think that is just the nature of the internet and the fact that this board is pretty evenly split between win now/rebuild over a 1-2 yr period/or just hating on the Nets (probably disgruntled Knicks fans – hey I would probably kill myself if we had drafted Gallinari over Lopez!)

Anyway – I do think you are getting too carried away with summer league stats, records, etc. First off the team is split between 2 coaching staffs, 4 NBA players and a bunch of guys hoping to make the leap (Dionte Christmas and Gary Forbes probably the most likely – Dionte definitely). So you have 2 systems, each coach is trying to get their guys some shine, and its pretty disjointed. Also summer league games are not necessarily a good representation of an NBA game – just like you can’t take preseason stats and project them to the regular season. Totally different animals. Also, I only watched about 5 minutes of 1 game as the video was so crappy and seemed on a major delay – so I think you are not seeing the full flow of the game. But from looking at box scores and reading reports – I get the sense that our team is more dysfunctional than the others, with the Nets looking to play off each other, and the Sixers doing the same. And as for turnovers – its summer league – think of how in preseason JKidd used to have 8 turnovers in a game. Even early in the regular season is a bit sloppy. So I wouldn’t stress too much.

by Ryan243 on Jul 9, 2009 9:57 PM EDT reply actions

who would say that you need to be a scorer to be sucessful in the league. look at all those top defensive players lik big ben ok he’s a big guy. i would say wade but no1 can compare to him twill plays lik wade only without offense he gets defenders tired by making them chase him around the court and he can pressure any baller out there. that is y he is a great player cause he does his part. he plays his game and doesn’t care what pplz say about him. he is the real deal.

And Randy, for the record – I am still a big fan of Boone and Swat. Boone is actually my favorite player.

I think that both of these guys are more naturally PFs than centers and that they are not used correctly. I also think that Josh could be one of the most dominant back up centers in the game (when playing center) if he could keep his confidence. When he gets in a rhythm he is really good. Same with Sean. They both just need to be used correctly (hopefully this year) and get their minds right.

I still think Sean could become the next Chris Birdman Anderson and i think Josh is as good as Marcin Gortat. I guarantee you he will be the 2nd center in 2 yrs the Mavs foolishly overpaid to sign.

Randy,
We had a terrible summer league record last year too, and then our three rookies all had successful rookie seasons, some HIGHLY successful. And thats all that matters cause most of those guys will not be playing on our team or even in the league. No one was calling Brook, RA, or CDR all stars after those games last year. Summer league is not a good judge of things.

Also, lets keep politics off this board, unless its appropriate, like Brooklyn issues.

That is all.

by Chris2 on Jul 9, 2009 10:26 PM EDT reply actions

Randy we have 2 players on the summer league team. Everyone else is a Sixer or a guy that will not be on our roster.

by Shawn G on Jul 9, 2009 10:29 PM EDT reply actions

Amen Chris to the politics issue, I have to disagree though with your thoughts on summer league. Summer league is rookies playing against rookies not rookies playing against EXPERIENCED PLAYERS. How will Twill be defending top players or even average players and how will he be scoring on top guys. I dont see all star potential in Brook, Ryan or CDR but I do see Brook becoming a young Kritic.

by Randy Oreens on Jul 9, 2009 10:35 PM EDT reply actions

summer league is not about winning randy…lol its summer league. Its about getting an early look at the rookies.

i rather have twill/cdr over jrue/speights any day. Jrue cant even play pg and speights doesnt play defense and only chucks shots. they could get better but twill/cdr are better right now.

i cant believe ur angry for losing summer league, it doesnt count. netxers are going to be 0-5, who cares!

by Andy on Jul 9, 2009 10:36 PM EDT reply actions

I think this Summer League does merit scrutiny for Nets fans. It is symptomatic of the team’s general trend. This summer team is particularly bad because the Nets have a special relationship with Philadelphia’s GM, but, more importantly, because Ratner wants to save money. We also have the regular roster we do because Ratner wants to save money.

Truly, Ratner doesn’t care about the team being good. I denied it at the time, but this was true when Kenyon Martin was let go. And to be honest, despite how much I like Vince Carter, Kenyon was the most popular player the Nets have had through its run of success in this decade.

This Summer League team is a mess because the owner wants to save money. The regular team isn’t going to be very good because the owner wants to save money. I’ve defended Ratner in the past, but it’s clear to me now that the Nets will not be about competitive basketball until he sells the team. This Summer league is a real indication of what type of product the Nets will be for the foreseeable future.

by Joshua on Jul 9, 2009 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

Brook is going to be the next Kristic? Oh yeah, because Brook can’t post up and he doesn’t know how to play defense or block shots or anything, right? Only thing in common that Nenad and Brook have in common is that they have a nice mid-range jumpshot.

by Jason on Jul 9, 2009 10:48 PM EDT reply actions

Good post Joshua I agree Ratner is ruining the team I was suprised we landed Carter in the first place.

Jason, face facts Brook is no Tim Duncan, Amare, Ben Wallace, Jermaine, Dwight, Shaq or not even Perkins. He is an above average center that got the job done because of our below average team. Robin was better then Brook in college and Brook started Center because of our lack of team. On any other team Brook would be a back up, but I do love his will to win I think he is exacly what the team needs. Devin Harris is really good and our point guards are set. I think what we needed was a backup Center in this draft, Boone just doesnt do well for the team right now and Twill was a waste of a pick.

by Randy Oreens on Jul 9, 2009 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

Joshua and Randy team up

by Andy on Jul 9, 2009 11:03 PM EDT reply actions

Let’s see. Nobody will ever match up with Tim Duncan. Amare has a poor attitude and hates to play defense. Big Ben had ZERO offense. Jermaine spent most of his career on the bench with all his injuries. Dwight is the most athletic bigman in a long time. Shaq is huge and is the most dominant center to play this game. Kendrick Perkins…really?

I hate comparing players, because Brook Lopez is not Tim Duncan, or Shaq, or even Jason Collins for that matter. He is Brook Lopez- a young center (he’s only 20, not like he’s 22 or 23) that plays good defense and blocks shots (Top 5 in the league last year) that has very good rebounding numbers and can effectively score in the paint and outside, and can hit free throws (highest FT percentage of any rookie center).

13 ppg 8.1 rpg 1 apg .5 spg 1.8 bpg 53.1 fg% 79.3 ft% 30.5 mpg

12 ppg 10 rpg .9 apg .9 spg 1.7 bpg 52 fg% 67.1 ft% 32.6 mpg

These are 2 stat lines above of rookie centers above. Without checking who it is, tell me which stat line is better just from these numbers

No one can judge me because I dont let anyone ever tell me im wrong. I make points based off of myself if I belive something and someone kept yelling and screaming at me with 30 other people disagreeing with me I will still keep my thoughts of what I belive out there.
I dont like when people are sheep and just because you all say Vince Carter is good I dont belive it. And just because a ton of people call Lebron James king and he hasnt won a ring yet doesnt make me call him king. I dont think Lebron is that good he is a selfish man who storms off the court if he loses.

by Randy Oreens on Jul 9, 2009 11:18 PM EDT reply actions

And btw, if you’re guessing who those stats belong to, I’ll tell you: The top line is Brook Lopez, while the bottom line is Dwight Howard, yes Dwight Howard, as a rookie. Other than rpg (and he did play for mpg so had more chances for rebounds) and mpg, Brook was a better rookie Dwight Howard, the most dominant bigman in the league right now.

Any response Randy?

by Net Income on Jul 9, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions

Jason you cannot compare Dwight Howard an all star to Brook Lopez. Brook Lopez has yet to develop and I dont belive Brook will change at all I think what he is doing right now is what he will be finishing his career with. I dont think he will get better but I do think that he has a bright future as a Nenad. Devin Harris stepped up his game as a Net and has improved but I just dont see Brook getting better I just see him maintaining the average stats he does. Brook got more blocked shots and such because there is a lot less Defense on the nets. Brook was the only Net playing Defense and thats a fact. Twill is a disastor so far and you can agree with me on that fact. He has shown against Rookies and D League players that he is a turn over machine and cannot get the job done. Thorn shouldnt have waited till the last minute to pick Twill because we lost Ryan Anderson. I am just very very upset that our pick was wasted, I didnt even hear about Twill till we picked him, Twill should of went second round.

Listen Randy I have nothing against you you’re prolly a nice guy and all and I don’t wanna get u pissed off or anything, but you don’t even know what you’re saying. I disagree with you on Twill. I am simply comparing Dwight to Brook in their rookie years, nothing more, to prove that Brook’s potential is not a Nenad Kristic, rather it goes on to be a top 3 center. Remember, I said potential. If you don’t know what potential means, it means his ceiling that he can reach if everything goes right and he continues to work hard to improve his game. As for Twill, I’ll make a decision when I see him in the regular season. Listen Randy, again I say, I have nothing against you and I am sure you are a smart person and I respect your opinions, but um… how do i say this without being tooo mean? I am not asking your posts to be deleted, if they actually contain points. SOme of yours do have a point, whether or not others agree. But many as I have seen today are really bordering on spamming, the same kind of things we see haters do on Youtube and other forums.
If, for example, on a night where VC had a tripple-double but only scored 10 pts, I kept making comments like “VC was a disaster and he should sit on bench” over and over again, without making references to actual statistics and fair comparisons, then I would be guilty of nothing but hater’s spamming. Biggie I dont mean to insult you in any way. None of my posts have been for spam I watch every nets game that I can even Summer League. You dont see any flaws in Twill is what you are saying? VC is gone from the team lets not dwell and what we have lost but what we have now. Biggie I respect your opinions alot I agree with a lot of them, I just like the fun of argueing points that other nets fans dont agree on isnt that what this is all about?

I advise that if you really do enjoy making arguments and debating with others, you should actually respond to others when they’re throwing back at you some really valid points with concrete facts and statistics.
Hater’s bashing without reference to real facts is considered as spamming (example: “Harris is a turnover machine” “Carter is a friggin bum” on every single game regardless of the actual statistics).
Of cuz there are flaws in TWill. There are flaws in all summer league players, including the 7-turnover Westrbook.
However, as I said, your comments seem like you’re focusing exclusively on Twill’s mistakes and blowing them up 100times. Because of the way your presented your comments, you seem to have something against him, and we didn’t see nearly the same aggression against other summer-leauge/rookie players. It’s only logical that people including myself think of you as a hater. Fair critics only enjoy debating with other fair critics. But I can say with certainty that you haven’t established yourself as one. If you really are just enjoying a debate, then suppress your hating and actually discuss the observables in the game.

Is it me or after two wonderful games by CDR, 6-12 and 20pts, 8-14 and 27pts was he completly froze out these two past games. I haven’t seen a play ran for him. I’ve seen him be looked off and had passes skipped over him and I’ve seen his teammates bring their defenders to him when he’s had the ball. It looks like they have decided that he’s shined enough and the WHOLE team hasn’t passed him the ball. Against Orlando he shot 1-1, and yesterday 0-4. That’s five shots in two games for the best player we have out there and the guy who was averaging 24ppg the first two games. When Twill had the ball on a 1 on 3 wit CDR on the right wing wide open and he tried to force it to the left and got the ball stole, I was sold that it was planned to not pass him the ball. Is it me or am I just seeing things?

Biggie thats how I get my mind across and my point across its the kind of guy I am. I think I am a very good guy and a loving guy to be around maybe the way that I say my points might get you angry thats fine its the way I am and I dont change for no one.

Just saying…u said you enjoy debating , but your signature “TWill sucks and that’s a fact” kind of statements are not exactly an invitation for an open debate.
It feels more like venting, wouldn’t you say?

To all regarding Randy Oreens: No one is actually ignorant enough to have opinions like his. It seems to me he’s just arguing illogical points and bashing well-liked nets to illicit reactions for his own amusement. With Vince Carter gone, T-Will is the new “everything is his fault no matter what actually happened” player, a wise choice since being a rookie, he will have his fair share of bad games, and will probably be here for a while. Keep that in mind when reading and possibly responding to such comments.

DZ I am afriad we havent met. The only this amuseing to me is the fact that some people actually defend players if they go 1 and like 30 this year for a game Carter had. People defended him, DZ I am a grown man with a job I dont look to bash people for no reason. Have you watched the summer league games yet? With Twill we are 0-4 and he has had over 20 turn overs in 4 games…but yeah I just make up ideas in my mind to get a laugh? I am stating what is being displayed on the court DZ. I am friends with many of the guys on here and even the mods respect my opinions I am helping out this website brining more people to it but yeah thats me getting a laugh right? I am told my brother about this site he was on here for a while I told some of my friends and I even told everyone that was watching SUMMER LEAGUE about Netsdaily.com in an email to the commentators!!! Dont assume stuff when you dont know me

UR opinion are just really weird…but its ok, i respect that becayse we’re all nets fans.

“With Twill we are 0-4 and he has had over 20 turn overs in 4 games”

but dont blame the losses on twill not fair…the big man dont play defense that is why bj mullens, ryan anderson, roy hibbert, and tyler hansbrough had big numbers against that.

I twill is going to be fine…he does many things well all he needs to do if work on his jumper.

This site has gotten really bizarre. I think Randy should start a site and a tweeter page the antitwill.com

I’m going to be honest here. I usually don’t read anything posted by Randy, mainly because every convo he starts swirls back around and will be about him at some point or another, and how he’s such a victim. I’m not going to be an enabler…or i’ll stop as soon as I’m done typing this. THEN I’m done enabling. I swear.

Generally, I skip around to see what Ryan, Chris, biggie, Net Income, Trenton, Andy, tu vieja, kidshizzle, Paul Erstein, even lilbigman have to say about the Nets. I enjoy their posts because they never make it about themselves, unless Paul is talking about Billy Joel or that poolboy again. I enjoy their posts, feedback and thoughts on the Nets, even if I don’t agree with them.

Your instinct was right on the money. Please read todays NetsDaily article (Policing Himself" CDR Changes Game) that links you to Fred Kerber’s article on why CDR’s play changed so drastically from the first two games. Seems he was responding to (new) coaching instruction. Wow…

Glad to see that article about Serge Ibaka. I think he’s one of the most exciting prospects out there. I’ve been scouring the globe looking for the next Shawn Kemp for a few years now and always find myself coming back to his sparse, not-yet-too-impressive Youtube clips wanting more.

This Nets/Sixers team was not formed to be competetive. It’s a lousy set up with no goals to accomplish but just to expose of what we can expect from certain player specially the rookies. Of course what they want to see are the good side and what needs to develope.
The NETS took T Will knowing that he is a good defender and rebounder but also with poor shooting. So this summer games have shown that but I think the NETS are not disappointed to see that but maybe glad to see that he has some defense. This game criteria of T Will was already pick up during by NETS scouting report. I believe that the NETS are optimistic that T Will down the line will improve in shooting and turnovers. And I too believe that coz once he play with real NETS team it will improve. So let us enjoy our summer and not fret about this. For NETS to survive they have to take chance and develope young players to minimize cost. It’s all about money right now but I do believe by 2010 NETS have big plans but this plan could be affected also if they underperform next season, like a lot of FAns anticipate to be around 15 wins. If that is so then the only hope is to get a young star power forward on the next draft coz a lot of free agents will be looking for championship team. That’s why 2010 is really doubtful for NETS to get James or Wades specially when he indeed express title contender teams. To have a chance with these guys the NETS should reach the playoff.
