Hill Departs for Detroit

After having to take a reported 50 per cent pay cut with the Nets, Brian Hill decided the smarter move would be to sign a multi-year deal with the Pistons. Rod Thorn announced that Hill is leaving the first assistant's job with Lawrence Frank for the same job with Detroit's new coach, John Kuester. The Jersey native has been an NBA head coach three times, once with the Grizzlies and twice with the Magic.

Good luck Hill. We are losing a good coach as well as stand up guy. I met him a couple of times and he was always up to talk about the team and the game.

Seriously, go where the money is. Good for him.

Do what you have to do B. Hill.

I hope he’ll be next in line if the Pistons fire their HD for any reason.

Peace out!

No surprise. It will be interesting to see what LFrank does without a presence like Hill on the bench. best of luck Brian.

Well, he can’t possibly get any worse

I’m really starting to get concerned. Ladies and gents, this is starting to look really bad! Ratner has to go, NOW!!!

I think L.Frank has already done one stint without Hill. Hill left and came back once on Frank’s watch. Yea, 50% pay cuts is an omnious sign though. Lets hope new ownership takes over soon.

Maybe we can ask Frank to take a pay cut so we can hire some at minimum wage…

by A.S. on Jul 24, 2009 3:33 PM EDT reply actions

Chris2,

Frank was without Hill for one or two years. I think that is the year we won like close to 50 games.

Kerry Kittles and Howard Eisley worked as unpaid interns in the past, maybe Frank can fill his staff with unpaid assistants. Or maybe we will see Rod and Kiki on the Nets bench. Hehe

Gee I am so surprised! We all knew this was coming. If the Nets had assistants take a 50% pay cut, I dont get how any of you can still believe the 2010 pipe-dream. Only way this team does anything financially is with a new owner at the helm. Hopefully a non-Ratner owner.

Bare witness to the breakdown of a team once thought of as to be a franchise of the present and the future.

Now Tom Barrise is the Lead assistant. That guy is weird and can’t keep his composure during games. He like curses and stuff on the bench hahaha

Is Lawrence Frank next? The Nets are doing the right thing, finally. Get rid of all the bums who get over paided for doing nothing. The Nets are getting lean and mean. Good for them. Sell the team and let the next owner have free reign. No more over paid assistant coaches and medicore FA signings. All successful businesses are run this way. I think the team will finally be sold and hopefully the new owner is serious about winning. At least it will light a fire under Thorns and Kiki’s butt. If you noticed the teams that do well don’t screw around. The Nets have been happy living off their 2 Final apperances years ago. Time to clean house and not collect more junk, I.E. Boozer, Davis, Gooden etc.

Its funny to see that the Ratner apologists and the 2010 smoke blowers have been silenced.

Everything that the anti ratner crowd has been saying is coming true. Our only saving grace is the kids on this team and their morale might be in the toilet.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jul 24, 2009 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

These Kids + coaches are making big money for all their “bad” misfortune. Fans and media have to grow up. Earn your living honestly! Ratner is not good or bad, he’s just looking to make money. Who knows where the Nets would be playing if he didn’t buy the team. (Mostly likely not in Tri-State area.) Net fans will only be happy when the team moves to North Carolina, Seattle etc. Wish for the worst and don’t be surprised if you get it.

by Mike on Jul 24, 2009 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

No, they would have been playing in Newark where they belong.

by MrT on Jul 24, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t get it, we can cut down the pay roll from players, but how can we cut down the cost from the coaches?

Gees, this young players really need good coaching to be a great player, how can your youngsters be great under LFrank only???

He won a couple games for us, when frank got ejected I think. They listened to him better
