Boozer? Big Baby? Hype? Hope?

Fred Kerber reports that while the Nets are interested in Carlos Boozer and Glen "Big Baby" Davis, the likelihood of either joining the Nets is nil. "We like our young players, we like our core group and don't want to change it," says Kiki Vandeweghe. Translation: we're not about to trade any of them for Boozer. As for Davis, Kerber advises, "don't plan on any unreasonable financial proposals" from the Nets.

ike diogu?

I’d be happy with Diogu.

by Andrés on Jul 22, 2009 7:43 AM EDT reply actions

As I wrote yesterday, if the Nets made no attempt to get Brandon Bass for a mere 18 million/4 years, they couldn’t be serious about Big Baby, except to let Utah know that Nets have other options.

I had read on a Utah site that they were hoping for BLopez, (no mention of CDR). However, Utah has little options and would probably have to involve 3 teams to meet their difficult requirements, especially if they don’t want to take on an expensive multiyear contract.

The question remains, would Kiki part with GS pick + CDR + expiring contract(s) for Boozer if Utah lowered their expectations? Kerber doesn’t answer that question.

I’m for Ike Diogu, too, but I’m sure his price hasn’t come down, and who would Sacramento be willing to take from the Nets in a S&T?

by jerry25 on Jul 22, 2009 8:11 AM EDT reply actions

Cheap, cheap, cheap. You get what you pay for….or we get what they pay for, little. I hope something happens, if not these two…. It’s painful to watch Yi get outplayed night in and night out.

by joe on Jul 22, 2009 8:21 AM EDT reply actions

I’d be all for Diogu…I had read an article that there were like 6 teams all interested in Diogu, and I did not see the Nets listed. I think right now his price is too high, but the longer he goes unsigned the lower his asking price should be. I have a feeling he will wind up in Dallas, after they lost out on Gortat and let Bass go, they need another scorer and rebounder up front. Maybe the Nets will look into him later in the summer. Hakim Warrick is still out there too as a restricted. I also would not mind Shelden Williams. I have not heard anything about him. Powe is still recovering from the knee injury but it may be worth it to try to get him for the future. He reminds me of the McDyess situation a few years ago. You don’t bet against guys with that kind of work ethic and drive from recovering. Anything we do would likely be a sign and trade because we have a full roster.

by Chris2 on Jul 22, 2009 8:33 AM EDT reply actions

Powe may be all the Nets can afford and it fits in with Nets’ fans hope of tanking season to get good draft pick and also Boston would probably do a S&T.

by jerry25 on Jul 22, 2009 8:44 AM EDT reply actions

@jerry25

I don’t get how Utah thinks they can have leverage in the Boozer saga. CB did them a favor by opting in, allowing them to get something..anything…in a trade rather than just losing him to Free Agency. Other teams remember how CB dealt with the Cavs a few years back then how he’s been hyping up his love for Chicago, then Miami this week. Can this guy be trusted? Then throw in his injury problems, and on top of that, he’d be a one year rental for most teams. So again, where’s Utah’s leverage?

by wondering_aloud on Jul 22, 2009 8:57 AM EDT reply actions

A year ago today, the Nets traded Marcus Williams to the Warriors, a trade that hadnt been rumored. Williams was in Salt Lake City with the Nets when the deal went down, having said he was happy backing up Harris.

The next day, Dooling had his introductory press conference…and Najera announced that he was going to Russia. Three days after that, Kiki said he expected the Nets to resign Krstic.

So while you never know, this is usually a week when things get done.

Gooden over Diogu. Diogu over Ely. Nikoloz Tskitishvili over everyone!!!

by Net Income on Jul 22, 2009 9:03 AM EDT reply actions

Very true. Utah has no leverage. Diogu, powe, or warrick would be better though.

I’d like to see Yi get those minutes and sink or swim. I think he’s the key to our success this year….

by so true on Jul 22, 2009 9:06 AM EDT reply actions

Maybe it’s hopeful thinking on my part but who saw the VC trade(to NJ) coming a few years ago? That came out of the blue too. So I agree with NI…you never know.

by wondering_aloud on Jul 22, 2009 9:09 AM EDT reply actions

Kiki doesn’t want to change the core group? Is he looking at the same team as everyone else.

Sure you don’t wanna break up Lopez and DH, but everyone else should be looked at if the deal is right. Although I wouldn’t be a fan of trading Hayes or Dooling.

Exactly

I wouldn’t be shocked if we go into the season with the roster as is.

Glad to see that the Nets aren’t willing to trade their young players for a one year rental

And LMAO!! @ The Utah people wanting Lopez in a trade for Boozer. GET REAL.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jul 22, 2009 9:37 AM EDT reply actions

The only one I would want on Utah would be Jerry Sloan. Trades are like dating. You can meet a lot of people and never really connect but when the right one comes along, things can happen fast and you never know when it can happen. The question is, are deals done this week a coincidence or are there factors that make it happen now?

by libigman on Jul 22, 2009 10:19 AM EDT reply actions

If they do go into the season as is, I’m OK with it. It will be a year that focuses on the young talent’s growth and development. With the possibility of a high draft pick next year. But not all of our guards/SFs are going to be able to find playing time. I worry that Frank is going to play Simmons out of seniority. Perhaps Najera plays decently and we can trade him for an expiring.

PG: Harris, Alston
SG: Lee, Dooling
SF: CDR, Hayes, TWill, Simmons, Hassell
PF: Yi, Najera, SWill
C: Lopez, Battie, Boone

by Chris2 on Jul 22, 2009 10:24 AM EDT reply actions

I just don’t think nothing like Big Baby, Boozer, Diogu, Powe, or Warrick is going to happen. I think that when it comes down to it they will simply try to do a 2-1 trade and bring the roster to 14. Maybe a minor deal will be in the works but i don’t see anything big happening…

by Chuck D on Jul 22, 2009 10:44 AM EDT reply actions

How about a 3 way trade with NJ, Boston & Utah…

Jazz would get:
Bobby Simmons
Glen Davis

Nets would get:
Carlos Boozer

Celtics would get:
CJ Miles
Kyrylo Fesenko
Josh Boone

Your PF position is hurtin’ there.

by Trenton on Jul 22, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions

Yea, the PF position could be a black hole on this roster. I am hoping Yi steps up and plays to his natural abilities, but I have my doubts. I think either way the Nets intend on giving Yi run this year to see what he is made of. I’d like to see someone capable behind him to produce at an NBA level.

by Chris2 on Jul 22, 2009 11:54 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t really seeing this roster change
Yeah we could make trades but why
Getting a PF ruins Yis development plus swill and najera battie
We have enough swing players hayes, twill, simmons
We got pgs and sgs too dh, kd, skip, lee, hassell, twill
Why bring in someone else
Let the team find an identity before trading

by djheavyduty on Jul 22, 2009 12:10 PM EDT reply actions

the nets aren’t going to bother getting any of these players b/c they still believe in yi and i wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t make any moves the rest of the offseason

by Netsfan2010 on Jul 22, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

Boozer wants to go to Miami now.
Pg Mario Chalmers
Sg Dwyane Wade
Sf Daequan Cook
Pf Michael Beasley
C Carlos Boozer
Wouldn’t that be a good lineup?

by NJD on Jul 22, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t mind giving Yi another chance but I pray we don’t go till March before we decide he hasn’t improved, like last year. However, based on the roster now and the coach’s style, who else will they play there, Najera?

by libigman on Jul 22, 2009 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

Boozer is still interested in NJ.
Pg Devin Harris
Sg Courtney Lee
Sf Chris Douglas-Roberts
Pf Carlos Boozer
C Brook Lopez
Does anyone think that this lineup would be better than Miami’s?

by NJD on Jul 22, 2009 1:18 PM EDT reply actions

Please get Boozer!!! The guy is legit – and better than any power forward we have had in the Rod Thorn era.
Get him at the expense of ANYONE not named Brook or Devin. If you add Boozer to those 2, we are a legit playoff contender and could win in the neighborhood of 43 -45 games and possibly get back to the Conf. Semis if able to avoid the 7th or 8th seed.

by Isaac on Jul 22, 2009 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

I have a feeling nobody is willing to give up much for Mr. Boozer. (I.E. Pat Riley) If Boozer was that special something would have happened by now. Nobody wants to rent a player for one year unless it won’t cost much. Who knows what Boozer and his agent want in a long term deal… My suggestion, give up the Booze…

by Mike on Jul 22, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Nicely stated Mike.
That is why the jazz are going to try really hard to trade him. Even if that means trading him for bobby simmons and a young player like sean williams, or most likely josh boone.
If you think about it, would you rather keep an injury prone starter for a year and then lose him in the offseason, or would you rather trade for a 1 year expiring contract and a promising young player who could make an impact as a starter or as a player coming off the bench?

by NJD on Jul 22, 2009 4:03 PM EDT reply actions

Hmmmm..…So like a few have said, other teams appear to have better young-ins to trade for Boozer. Highly unlikely Utah would even take CDR if offered (as the chip in lieu of a draft pick) and we know there was quite a fan backlash to including CDR in a trade for an All-Star like Boozer – which wouldn’t resign with the Nets, and who kill the Nets chances of sucking so bad that they have a better chance of getting a high pick who might work out, or by small chance ever be as good as Boozer anyway (where was he drafted again?)

Kiki didn’t really ID the core – I would bet that he really means Harris and Lopez for the most part (only actual or potential All-stars), and probably Lee and T-will due to there just getting here to some extent, and Yi due to the Nets $$ interest (unfortunately). I really don’t think CDR is necessarily included in the core by management at this point. Maybe that will change – the guy barely played, but he played OK. I know fanatical posters over value CDR right now. These kids form irrational attachments to players – it’s like a crush. I like CDR too, but if he was the piece to get an All-Star caliber player back to improve the chances of resigning said All Star caliber player next year, due to not having a real chance to sign any other big-time player, (I know it’s not realistic anyway) well then in that case see ya CDR. But we know that ain’t happening so its cool. No hate for CDR – he’s just not an All Star caliber player like Boozer. He has potential to be good. He hasn’t done it yet. He has to earn his chance though. Hopefully he’ll earn it this year.

I see Chris 2 has CDR him penciled as the hypothetical starting 3. If CDR could pull that off in all facets of the game – it would be awesome. I hope some combo of him, Twill and Hayes will do good things (yes I mean winning games – oh no!!). I think Hayes ends up getting the bulk of minutes at the 3 though unless the other 2 step up after Simmons who will start, and Hassell (L Frank’s new Twin) both kill the Nets. I think as of now its high hopes for CDR though – just like Yi. Neither of these guys has done much so we’ll see. They both have holes in their games.

For the roster it’d be good to move the $$$ of Alston, Simmons, Hassell, Swat and Boone (no one’s taking Najera) or combinations of such for a vet back PG who knows his role (and plays D), an actual NBA player at the 3 to start and eventually get beat out by CDR or Twill if they can hang at the 3, an actual NBA payer at the 4 to start (and not get beat out by Yi LOL), and some beef at 5 for the bench (hack-a-Shack/Howard). I now it’s not happening because the Nets ‘plan’ to suck and get that first pick who will be awesome etc….. (psst… this ain’t happening either). I’d rather have them compete – it’s just me that’s what I find fun about competitive sports LOL. Sipping my wine…..

Harris/Dooling/vet PG
Lee/CDR/T.Will
NBA starting caliber SF/Hayes
NBA starting caliber PF/Yi/Najera
Lopez/Battie/beef

@ You better you better you bet, Your Life; What are you talking about? Boozer is a Loser. who are you competing with, the Knicks? Wait for the right deal. If it don’t come, wait some more. We ain’t going no where this season. The Nets have not won a NBA championship, ever. The reason is impatience, mostly. Build within and then grab the missing link at the right time. These stop gap measures always end up being just that. Davis, Boozer, Wade, bosh etc. are just pipe dreams. Build your own team not everybody’s rejects.

by Mike on Jul 22, 2009 5:55 PM EDT reply actions

@You Better You Better

Again, I have to believe that most NBA teams know that Utah has no real leverage in any trade talks involving Boozer. He’s on the last year of a contract and doesn’t want to be there. On top of that, he’s injury prone and he seems to be all about the money at the root based on his actions when he had a verbal agreement with the Cavs a few years back. Utah is probably better off holding on to him until the trade deadline and hope some contender gets desperate and trades expiring contracts, a good young piece and a future draft pick. With that said, it’s been reported in so many places that Utah ownership does not want to pay out of the arse any luxury tax money if they keep Boozer. So they, in my opinion, will probably be more desperate than any of the team trying to acquire Boozer right now. Teams like Miami, Chicago, NY and the Nets are trying to get the guy at a bargain price. It’ll be a surprise if Utah gets anything significant if they do trade Boozer during the summer. We’ll see.

why wuld u want to just win 43 games and get knocked out in playoffs wit a 7/8 seed…..

thats just stupid

if you dont win it all or be an elite contender…….. there is no point
