Nets Give Hill Permission to talk with Pistons about Assistant Job

The Nets have given Brian Hill permission to speak with Pistons coach John Kuester about the lead assistant job in Detroit. Hill is lead assistant to Lawrence Frank. He and the other Nets assistants have all taken big salary cuts this summer. If Hill takes the Pistons' job, it's likely Tom Barrise will slide over into Hill's spot. The Nets may not fill any opening this season.

This is pathetic!!! Ratner must be stopped.
Not that Hill’s presence will make this garbage roster play any better next season but he is the only one on this coaching staff that resembles NBA caliber.

why don’t Frank go to the Pistons and Hill take over Nets.

I knew that Hill would be gone this summer. He is the most marketable of all the assistants and I wrote here months ago, that the coaching staff would be reduced to save money. Frankly, I thought he would end up in either Detroit or Minnesota as Head Coach. LFrank will miss him, and he can’t do a thing to keep Hill in NJ. It is a shame. We may not agree with some of LFrank’s coaching moves, but nobody can say that he doesn’t work really really hard. With Hill gone, not to be replaced with like experience, there will be that much more pressure on LFrank, in the last year of his contract…

What other proven coaches are available that the Nets would benefit from? This would potentially be for 2010 season…
I have always liked Jeff Van Gundy, but Houston really only took off after he left. Not sure what to make of that.
Fratello seems like an excellent defense coach, plus he has the Jersey roots.
Hubie Brown, too old.
Avery Johnson, little general probably would be foaming at the mouth to have another chance to coach Harris but he is sort of nuts and Harris probably wants no part of him.
Doug Collins. I don’t like the guy as a coach, although good announcer. Seems like his time has come and gone.
Kurt Rambis seems like a hot name these days but I know nothing about him.
What was the name of that Italian coach Kiki was rumored to like? He may be a dark horse candidate.
Calipari? lol.
Byron Scott? If he somehow leaves New Orleans there is no Kidd to stop him and Thorn never wanted to fire him in the first place.
I’d give up next years first rounder for Greg Popovich, in my opinion, the best coach around.
We will have to wait and see how this year goes. I think its Franks swan song.

@Pau
“LFrank will miss him, and he can’t do a thing to keep Hill in NJ.”
We don’t have enough information to know if that is true or not. If Hill has signed a contract as an assistant coach for 2009-10, then he could only leave to be the assistant coach of another team if the Nets gave permission.

The disgrace that is the New Jersey Nets ownership continues
I’m not even a big fan of Hill but this is pathetic
It doesn’t matter anyway, we lose with him, lose w/o him.

Sly has started discussions with the Lakers. As you all know free agency for mascots cannot begin until August 1 and signings cannot take place until Aug 15. I have heard a rumor that our mascot this year will be one of the parking lot attendants (will vary and depend on which lot is empty). Brian Hill is a class act and whatever happens I wish the best to him and his family. It is indeed a shame that the assistants all took pay cuts, LF should have made it up to them by giving them part of his inflated contract

I will coach for free. I led my bitty basketball team to a championship. That is one more ring than Larry Frank.

As great as he has been, it is time to let Sly go. He deserves to be a part of a championship, so LA would be a perfect opportunity. If the Nets are committed to rebuilding, then obviously it’s time to make way for Mini-sly. Let Mini-sly show what he can do, if he fails, then the Nets can use some of that cap savings to sign a big time mascot. Of course, that would all depend on Brooklyn because all the top mascots want to come to Brooklyn.

I like JohnY’s idea but Dumars is too smart to want Frank. I’d be shocked if Hill is here given the fact that Frank is in the last year of his deal, the team’s financial condition and the pay cuts. He would be missed because I think Frank any good ideas from him.

@ Ispartan: Great post. But…Mini Sly can’t defend. How tall is he anyway?
by Ronnie the Fan on Jul 16, 2009 12:18 AM EDT reply actions
@Ronnie, I understand that Mini-sly has been working out all summer and has added 5 lbs of muscle, enough to really handle the t-shirt gun. BTW, I forgot to mention that Sly could have been retained because Ratner insists he does not mind paying two mascots. But Thorn and Kiki have determined that a second mascot really does not improve this team’s chances of getting deep into the playoffs.
