And my years of being a Nets fan might be over by the end of the night as well.
What’s the point anymore? At this time next year we can all but assume Devin or Brook will be traded on draft night too.

The right move at the right time. Go into the 2010 offseason with enough cap space to sign two max players, and have a young core of lopez, harris, lee, and whomever we draft.

@Trenton – I agree.
I can see Brett’s marketing mind now… The Yi And Lee Connection… Bricks served up all day. Youth movement time and so is #1 pick in the draft next year! Yes!

I have a bad feeling this is going to happen.
Time to cancel the TiVo subscription and think about other uses for the money blocked out for tickets. Wake me in 2010 and let me know if any top player want to come to a 15 win team.

Lee is good. I like this one. Battie also has toughness inside which we lack. Good deal Thorn. Now, who do you draft? a 3 would be perfect! Nice team: Lopez, Battie, Williams, Lee, Harris.

I think this is a good deal for us. We want to be playing serious playoff ball in three-five years. VC doesn’t fit in to that. Maybe Courtney Lee does, I think he had a hell of a rookie year for a late 2nd first round pick. AND WE save 16 million for 2010-2011. Move makes sense for the Magic, who had trouble scoring at times. VC does not have trouble scoring.
As the 3rd or 4th best player on the Magic, VC is going to be at least into the eastern conference finals next year. GOOD FOR HIM. SHAQ vs Howard in the conference finals, UNLESS the Celtics make a BIG MOVE. Good Work THORN & KIKI, one step closer to signing DWADE next year, my dream!

I would ask Orlando for their 1st round pick in 2010 to sweeten the pot.
It was either this or the Package of Outlaw/Frye/Rodriguez that Portland was offering. I’m not happy either way. With 2010 becoming more & more of a pipe dream, i think NJ are giving up on the season before it starts. I would feel a little better if Orlando took on Trenton Hassell & 4.5 Million expiring contract, but if this goes down the Nets are sure to pick Williams or Henderson in the draft tonight.
by Drew on Jun 25, 2009 4:35 PM EDT reply actions
If we do that we’ll have 32 million in cap space in 2010. That’s nasty. That’s a max guy and a really good guy. Add that to a young core of Harris, Lee, Lopez, Twill (hopefully, Yi could figure it out, and our 2 2010 1st round guys.

If Ryan Anderson is included in the deal, we need to have a pick or something.
I find it interesting that each time Shaq is traded, one of our marquee players gets booted out.
Kidd was traded to the Mavs after Phoenix traded for Shaq. Now after Shaq was traded to the Cavs, the Nets trade VC to the Magic.

i feel sick. i hope we just tank it next summer and then draft #1 prospect SG John Wall in next year’s draft. as decent as Lee was as a rookie, he is not a quality starter.

Yeah, you guys will be fans again when we sign Dwayne Wade or LeBron next summer. This move makes so much sense to me, and I’ve been waiting for this day for about a 7 months now. Lets face the facts the team has declined steadily every year he’s been on the team, and as much I like watching the human highlight reel he needs to go. Courtney Lee will certainly help us, and Rafer and Battie are contracts that we can shed that will make it possible to begin a new era in NJ/Brooklyn basketball…

I wish they just trade either boone/yi/sean rather than anderson.
For me, anderson > lee.
Magic should definitely include 1st rd. picks in that trade or the Nets will definitely be fleeced.

I dont get the anger here. WHy does it make sense to hang on to vince? Are we somewhere close to competing for a championship? Why watch him age, chew up cap space and lose value (or more than he has)? We are not just getting garbage back this time and the deal could still change to include… anything. I am a Carter fan. He is a good player and person but i dont see the logic of hanging on to him. We needed a desperate team with whom we can trade, and here it is.

I tried to post several times in the last few minutes, I guess we crashed. I like this deal, EVEN with throwing Anderson in.
The right deal, at the right time. I think Courtney Lee is a starter in this league. He played alot for a very very good team. He may not be a “featured” player, but in 2011, maybe DWADE starts for US at the 2! HOWEVER, and this is a BIG however, what makes you think Ratner will spend any money to sign any big free agent? Where will the money come from? Unless Brooklyn is partially built and FULLY FUNDED, in 2010-2011, Ratner doesn’t spend a dime that he doesn’t have to.
by "Pau" Erstein on Jun 25, 2009 4:47 PM EDT reply actions
Funny, I wanted them to draft Courtney Lee last year at the spot where Ryan was selected.
VC, you’ve been great. I hope you win a championship there.
The arms race is on, boy – Shaq to the Cavs one day, VC to the Magic next. What’s Ainge got up his sleeve?
by mt57 on Jun 25, 2009 4:50 PM EDT reply actions
Not only is this deal better than the Spurs or Cavs offer but sending VC to the city where he keeps his home is a classy move for a true professional who really added a lot to this team. Once again, Rod and Kiki probably made the best of a bad situation.

The anger is this team’s management has no loyalty anymore to its fans. Everything is up for grabs, including the away jerseys!!
Sorry if we have grown to liking VC and would prefer to see him in a Nets uniform, rather than Battie, Lee and Alston. He put up great numbers last year and this season would have been watchable with DH, VC, Brook and some more growth from the other players.
Now our veteran is bobby simmons and every player has a pricetag. Its pathetic, absolutely pathetic.
by Trenton on Jun 25, 2009 4:56 PM EDT reply actions
Alston and Battie are just expiring contracts, so basically it’d be Lee for VC and Anderson. The Nets have to be asking for something more, a draft pick would basically be worthless though so I dunno what else they can try and get from the Magic. There’s no way the Nets get 2 top free agents in 2010, they’d be lucky…EXTREMELY lucky to get 1. You can have all the money in the world, doesnt mean someone will come take it. Like Ive said many times 2010 is just a pipe-dream. If the Nets dont make moves to win this season, then its pretty much over.

Given the friendship of Anderson and Lopez this seems like a stupid move to include Anderson in this ….lord knows we have a number of other players on the margin like Simmons, and Hassell….get rid of those guys not a promising smart player like RA.
As far trading Vince….this seems like a good spot for him with his connections there and to a true contender. If this goes thru then I wish him well. He has done a great job for the Nets.

by bk nets on Jun 25, 2009 5:12 PM EDT reply actions
The fans on this site are unrealistic. What is the point of keeping Carter? Hes gone after 2011-12. Why keep him just to win an extra 10 games? The nets are doing what the knicks have failed to do over the last 6 year, which is rebuild properly.
They are bleeding money, and just like any other business, when that happens, you cut costs. In the process they added a good young piece with an eye on the future. Carter, as talented as he is plays with little heart and doesnt care whether he wins or loses.
I am a nets fan and i want the team to win now but I also am realistic. The nba is the hardest sport to rebuild in, especially when your the new jersey nets. The summer of 2010 is being billed as the biggest summer the sport has season and the nets have stocked up on cap space and assets. Good day for the new jersey nets even if it means bad things for the 2009-2010.

The reason why there are a lot of Net fans left is because of Vince Carter. Once he’s gone, the fan base is going to dwindle. Here it is…
The New Jersey Nets are in serious talks with the Magic about a deal that will send Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson to Orlando for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee, two league sources told ESPN.com.
The talks have reached a point that a deal could be done by the end of the day Thursday, according to sources.
The trade would give the Magic even more star power on their quest to win an NBA championship. The addition of Carter to a lineup that already consists of All-Star players Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson would make Orlando the favorite to win the Eastern Conference title next year if the franchise also finds a way to bring back Hedo Turkoglu, who will opt out of his contract this summer.
As for the Nets, the move is a cost-cutting measure. Both Alston and Battie are in the last year of their contracts, and trading for them would shave $16.5 million off New Jersey’s roster in the summer of 2010 and put the Nets well below the salary cap.
Over the life of the contracts, the Nets would save $40 million by making the deal.
The deal, if completed, would also give the Nets a young, promising shooting guard in Lee.

So will it be Derrick Favors + Brook Lopez in 2010, or will it be John Wall + Devin Harris? Good luck VC.
by Will on Jun 25, 2009 5:29 PM EDT reply actions
I like this deal a lot. If you saw Courtney Lee play defense on Kobe during the finals, you saw the fire this kid has.
I love Vince…in fact I went to Carolina when he was dunking over Duncan, but he is aging, plays very little defense, and is taking up cap space…..
To get an actual prospect like Lee, who really impressed me towards the end of the season and playoffs is another feather in Thorn’s trading cap.
I am sad to see Anderson go, I thought he had potential, but he is basically an undersized power forward who is likely to get posted up for the rest of his career…..while I was not liking the idea of drafting Hansbrough, despite my Carolina connection, I now think he would be a great addition, adding real fire to our team, especially in practices, making everybody better on the team. I think we eliminated the need for Henderson, although either Hill or TWill remain possibilities that I would not argue with.
Go Nets!!!! Especially in 2010!!
by Leo on Jun 25, 2009 5:30 PM EDT reply actions
What is sad about this? This isnt like when the nets traded kenyon martin and they broke up a good team. They are breaking down a shit team so that they can build up a good one.
This is an easy decision for the nets. Look around at the other trades made in the nba. They have been straight salary dumps. The nets were able to bring in a young promising player in return.
Any business that is losing money is going to cut costs, the nets are no different. They just saved about 40 million dollars and gave themselves a chance to sign two max FA’s in the summer of 2010 along with the two first round picks they have that summer. They will be major players.
They are rebuilding the right way. The day they traded kidd they made a decision to go in a different direction and they have done so in the right way. They are doign what the New York Knicks have failed to do since they traded Patrick Ewing. To take a step forward, you often have to take a step back.
Great day for the nets organization and their future. For those of you who wanted to keep VC for the chance to be an 8th seed, get a CLUE.

Absolutely terrific trade. The Anderson part of the deal doesnt make much sense. However, I equate this to when the blazers traded Rasheed away a couple years ago.
Now, the blazers have young studs all over their roster and plenty of cap space.
Hopefully we’ll become the blazers version in the east.

As others have said before me, we weren’t going to win a championship this year or even make the playoffs, so who cares about losing Vince? Now we can really rebuild.
As for who starts at the 2, I vote for CDR.

and now it looks like Hanbrough will be the draft pick
Alston and Lee are good pick ups and quality players tho of course not in the VC league. All of the sudden they have plenty of guards tho who is going to play small forward in a productive way.
Still lots of marginal weight on the team….Boone, Hassell, Simmons
It is going to be a looooooong season and expect Devin to get taciturn at best.

The thing about this trade for me is that The Nets and Magic are my two favorite teams, so I actually like Carter going to the Magic with the chance to win a ring after all his years of leading the Nets. I can’t say that I would’nt prefer him to win a ring with the Nets, but, either way I want him to win.
As for the look of the Nets after this trade goes through, I could almost 75% guarantee Hansbrough in the draft if this deal falls through, with Anderson gone. But I do like Lee; he made alot of great plays during the post season for the Magic. I was thinking about a possible line-up?
PG-Alston,Dooling
SG-Harris,CD-R,Lee
SF-Hayes (or TWill),Simmons
PF-Yi (or Hansbrough), SWAT
C-Lopez, Boone, Battie
What if Alston and Harris were in the backcourt? Think it could work? And anyways even if the team sucks really bad this year, hopefully we can get a #1 pick next year with enough money to get some star players to go with Harris, Lopez, CD-R, Lee, (and Hansbrough or TWill)

Devin and Brook are. i know the Nets are going to have a bad season next year but i am excited for their future. i feel this is all part of Rod Thorn’s future plan to turn the Nets into the Blazers of the East.

I’m not too upset about this deal. Yea it’s sad to see VC go, and sure it will be a very long season next year, but we got a player back that I think will be a solid NBA starter/role player for years, and some more cap space for 2010.
Lee really reminds me of Kittles. He fits our defensive needs, can shoot decently, and runs the floor very well. I’ve never been an Alston fan but at least him and Battie come off the books next year.
That being said, I really like a core of DH, Lee, and Lopez. Obviously it is still missing a major piece of the puzzle, but those three surrounded by a major 2010 FA could be scary. Let’s just hope we can land said free agent…

And why would they draft ANOTHER 2 guard in Terrence Williams? We would already have CDR, Lee, and KD to play the 2 guard position (since KD will not play the point with Rafer here).

What are the rules on turning around those players we just acquired? Do we have to keep them a certain period of time or can we use their own expiring contracts in a new trade?
Good luck to Vince near his home. I wish he had had more of a killer instinct but he seems to be too nice of a guy.
Of course, wish we could have parted with Josh or Sean, and kept Ryan. I also wonder how Ryan’s loss will impact his buddy Brook.

I’d rather see us take twill at 11 and keep him. Full rebuild. But I bet we trade 11 to chicago for 16 and 26. Tyler at 16 and then maybe caspi or toney douglas at 26.

I just have a feeling that this year carter will explode and will make atriumphant return too bad it isn’t with the nets anymore. I will continue to be a net fan but i will be watching orlando very closely. now all we need is some depth at the 3’s and 4’s and back up for brooke. saying so we need some more fire power. bosh or amare will help no boozer we don’t need another 30 year old who’ll take up cap space and just be injured half the saeason. we need young guns.so long vince and i wish you best for the rest of your career.

They weren’t going to do better. Got a tough pf and a young sg. I like Alston too. VC was great for the Nets. But better to let him go a year before rather than a year after. Plus a lot of fans wanted him to go to a contender. It’s the best of both worlds. Nets got salary cap room and a good young player and VC went home to a contender…

Apparently Dick Vitale reporting Nets to take Hansbrough at 11. That would be stupid.
Take TWill at 11 – and let him play the 3. Chad Ford latest mock draft reporting we take TWill
We all know we are going to have 1 lottery pick (probably top 3) our own pick – plus Dallas’ pick – which I think will be lottery too as I bet JKidd is long gone.
What would make this season not a total disaster would be if we could turn Simmons (expiring contract), Yi (expiring contract or cheap to resign) and Hassel (expiring contract) to Toronto for Bosh. Bosh has said he is not resigning their. Then we have his bird rights.
And I think Kiki prefers Carmelo to Lebron.

Just gotta chime in here.
First off: See ya later VC fans, good luck rooting for your man-crush in orlando.
For those of you who are still nets fans and angry- we won 34 goddamn games last year with Carter. Feel free to spew the normal litany of excuses like it was Frank’s fault or blah blah, but I for one am happy about the trade and excited for this coming season.
Can’t wait to see Lopez as the focus of the offense this year.

I love the Nets…and to hear this trade is certainly difficult to swallow – but Nets were not going to go anywhere with VC and whoever we drafted at #11 even if it was Griffin. 2009-10 will be a chit season and hopefully next year this time, we will be able to turn it around just like the Celtics did 2 years ago.

I knew all along Carter would go this summer. Orlando is great for him and I’m happy he’ll be close to home and on a possible winner. I have to admit though, there were many times when I was so angry with VC, but over the last year really got to like him. He was great with the young guys. As for the trade, I like Courtney Lee, but don’t know how Rafer Alston will fit in. Will miss Ryan. Looking forward to 2010 and the draft tonight. Excited about the new season!

Over/under for wins in 2009/10: 15. I still probably take the under.
Courtney Lee was bad last year – much worse than Ryan Anderson. 8 PPG, 2 RPG, 1 APG? That’s horrible, especially considering he’s replacing a guy who was 20/5/5.
Ryan Anderson was 7/5/1, in about 5 less minutes per game.
A straight up Anderson for Lee trade would have been a bad trade. So now we are DOWNgrading our young talent in order to get rid of Vince. Awful.

Rod Thorn said:
"The trade we made today provides our franchise with numerous options in the long-term development of our team," said Nets boss Rod Thorn. "We believe that in Courtney Lee, we have acquired a young, dynamic player who will be a very good player in this league for a number of years. Rafer Alston has proven to be a quality player in this league for a number of years, and Tony Battie will provide a strong veteran presence off the bench."

The management is sickening.
Reading their prepared made me dry heave a little.
They are feeding the “fans” so much garbage in all their moves and deals.
Fact of the matter is: You once again traded a team favorite for a bunch or garbage players. All three combined will not match what VC brought to the team. You do not care about this season and that really sucks because you have fans in NJ who still wanted to watch their team compete.
The starting 5 scares no one else in the league. Regardless of who you add in the draft, this team will be pathetic. And even if they do win more than 12 games, why should we grow attached? Its all going to change ONCE AGAIN next offseason.
You are a bunch of snakes, Thorn, Kiki, Ratner and Yormark.
I wish you nothing but terrible things…

Great trade by the Nets! We did not make the playoffs the last 2 years. I like Vince but if we are not making the playoffs, I’d rather rebuild with young players.
Additionally, the Bucks got garbage for RJ, we got some solid players for VC and now we have some cap room to use in the future.

Glad our site seems to be back up. Again, I like this deal for the players. AND I know it clears 2010 cap space, but having the space is NO GUARANTEE that we USE the money to sign a bigtime free agent. Good Luck to VC and Anderson. I hope they win a ring. VC was a good citizen while he was here. Good Job

i was a pro-trade vince because to me it did not make sense to pay and old guy that much money when we are a lottery team. with devin and brook we need to build around these two.
i like Lee and i think adding Lee brings a lot to this team. we get younger in this trade and obviously with rafer and battie we get money coming off the books or 2 contracts, along with simmons who we can package together at the end on the year for an established player, doubt we choose that path.
i wish vince the best. he was good for certain years. he was fun to watch at times, but it was also equally hard to watch him at times. yes he made great plays, but too many times i felt he never brought his A game like big time players should. unfortunately we have to give up anderson, but it is what it is. i didnt like the money we resigned vince for, but it was a PR move and now it seems we have to pay for it by moving ryan instead of just any piece to make it work.
anyways, it could be worse or better. just like the RJ trade, you have to wait until 2010 to really judge it. hopefully these pain years (short compared to nets history) will pay off when 2010 rolls around, but with no shovels in the ground in brooklyn i really have no faith that we will spend our cash on big prizes.
if we add TWill i wouldnt mind how the day turned out. Courtney Lee and TWill would add athletic young players to our team where we can run more and we add two guys who play on the defensive end. we saw brook play good D last year and devin was great in dallas, if he can get back to playing D and you add Lee/TWill then we have 4 young players to build with who play good D and we know D was our weak point last year
thanks vc, best of luck. ryan too

To all you haters on Rod Thorn, Ratner, Kiki, etc., are crazy. Do you expect this team to go to the finals every year. Do you honestly believe that Ratner and Kiki and Thorn are on a mission to add misery in our lives for no reason? Do you think we’re the only team that has ever faced with the fact that we’re rebuilding? Portland, a team that probably everybody on this site has high praise and respect for, has not always been this good. They had to go through a phase of rebuilding by trading stars (Randolph, Rasheed Wallace) and making good picks in the draft to create a young and exciting team.
Essentially what the Nets did with this trade was fast forward a couple of years. If the Nets had kept VC, they would undergo the same situation that they are in now, perhaps even worse, in about 2 years when VC’s deal expired. Until then, we would have a few seasons of low-30 win seasons. And did we have the pieces to get a trade that would put us in contention with the likes of Cleveland, Boston, Orlando, etc. even with VC?
I say one more time, FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE UPSET OVER THE TRADE, REALIZE THE SITUATION THE NETS WOULD BE WITH VC

The Nets have been rebuilding for 40 years, then Kidd came and we were on a roll, then Ratner came and its been a decension ever since.
I REALIZE THE SITUATION I’D BE IN WITH VC. THE TEAM WOULD BE COMPETITIVE THIS SEASON AND I WOULD STILL BUY TICKETS TO GAMES, REGARDLESS IF THORN WANTED ME IN THE ARENA OR NOT!!!!

what a great surprise!! we actually got a non garbage deal for carter.
as a guy who watched all of orlandos playoff games this year, courtney lee is a stud. hes not gonna be an allstar but he is gonna play solid D and fit in the flow of the offense. i like skip too. he can start when needed and allows dooling to move to his natural position at the 2.

As for us…this was a great trade, we didn’t get any picks, 1 prospect, and we got cap space. I’m sure the IZOD will be jammed packed this season for all 6 wins that we’re going to get.
I hope Bruce Ratner goes bankrupt. I’m not spending a dime on this TRASH unless Thorn turns this move quickly into something that puts this roster back on track.
NOT ONE DRAFT PICK. NOT A SINGLE ONE. Thorn must have had the barrel of a shotgun pressed against his temple by Ratner while he was on the phone getting raped by Otis. Without Carter to take that pressure off of Harris this kid’s ribs will be cracked by December. This will be fun….to POOP ON.

Would you also like to see the 10 win team we would have 2 years from now when Vince Carter retires, and we have no young players because they spent the previous 2 years having the 12th pick in the lottery and missing the playoffs. I’ve been a die hard Nets fan for a LONG time, but the difference between you and me is that you’re a short visioned fan that wants to win right now (which is only about 35 games to begin with, nothing special) while unable to see the consequences of the future. Fellas, you need to take a chill pill. I don’t think this is over. Rod Thorn is extremely capable, and I don’t think he does these things without reason. My concern is Ratner and his unwillingness to spend money. Hopefully the rumors by A. Wojnarowski are going to come to pass; that is the team being sold, hopefully to an NJ based ownership group. If that’s the case, we would need to be patient just a little longer. Again, Ratner’s our problem, not Thorn.

This is a great deal.
I am a BIG Carter fan. But let’s face it Nets fans, with Carter and Harris in NJ last year we won 34 games WHILE losing money.
Lee is a promising talent. We saw him VS Kobe. Gotta love that. Those feeling bad about Anderson being gone, c’mon, you gotta give something back to the Magic. NO ONE will get SWAT or BOONE. Absolutely NO ONE.
Look, people were complaining on this site why Brook was not the center of the offense last year. This is the chance! CDR can finally get meaningful minutes. Aren’t these the same gripes we had last year? With Carter gone we can finally truly rebuild. Add to that the two 1st round picks next year. That after Harris and Lopez develop for another year. Who knows, if they over achieve again, MAYBE they can attract a 2010 FA? I hope they get Chris Bosh IMO.
Like i said, I’m a BIG Carter fan. But as a NJNETS fan, I really like this deal. That was real classy by Kiki and Rod to trade Carter to a contender, which is his hometown. (*ouch RJ).
My main concern here actually is how this will affect Brook emotionally. Him and Anderson were inseperable last season. I mean, he’s young and not exactly the mature type so i can only hope this fast tracks his maturity a bit.

Trenton,
You have to keep in mind that having VC on the team was not gonna make this team a playoff contender. Also, he’s 32 and has a huge contract. Thorn was correct in getting rid of that onerous salary for something in return. I do agree that the move today doesn’t make us any better, but I think it’s a stepping stone toward something larger. He a great player, but let’s face it; we were NEVER able to win with him. I wish him all the best in Orlando, but he had to go. He should do very well with the Magic.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – we were spoiled in the Kidd-Jefferson-Martin era with the back-to-back Finals appearances. We thought we were on the threshold of something really special after being long-suffering fans. Then the team gets sold to this real estate developer who didn’t give a Sh%! about our team and look what happens. The problem here is ownership, not management. That’s why I hope Woj’s rumor about a sale is accurate, so we can finally move forward.

Its missing a draft pick tho…
I won’t miss vc… I live in tampa!!!!
Thee nets need to trade some of these expiring contracts for young talent or a different star
Watch minnesota trade flynn!!! I bet u a dollar!!!
Makes no sense to have 2 starting PG s that need the ball……
I hope CDR has been eatin his wheaties cuz he could start at SF
I think the nets will draft tyler
I think the nets are not done dealing

TWill baby! Def liked him and Louisville all season… Next year will suck, but we have plenty of cap space and a couple of 1st rounders next summer. Not to mention D Harris, Brooke Lopez, and Courtney Lee is a fine player…
Bring on DWADE or LeBron!!!

Crap. Tyler to Indiana. I wonder if this was a surprise to Thorn?
Now who do Nets have for PF???
Will TWill play SF?
Alston is bad for team chemistry when he doesn’t get playing time. He can’t be traded easily due to his salary and so many PG around this year.
by jerry25 on Jun 25, 2009 8:53 PM EDT reply actions
relac jarkid.this team doesnt suck.
1.harris27
2.lee23
3.t will21
4.yi21
5.brook21
rotation of dooling29,cdr22,boone24,seanwilliams22
plus you can add vets like alston najera and simons for this year to teach.
we going to make the playoffs this year prob not but we going to have alot of cap room next year with really good young talent?yes!
keep it up thorn that avg fan doesnt it get it but i do

This was the perfect time to trade VC. We were going No Where with him. maybe he will be able to close and finish in Orlando. Down there they wont be counting on him to be the #1 guy. I am so glad his acting and wining is gone.
by BigEd on Jun 25, 2009 9:10 PM EDT reply actions
Anyone think Thorn will trade for Blair?
Alternative is to go for Boozer in S&T, but I doubt that could happen tonight?
Wait for #18 and #20 if there is going to be any action.
Without a real PF, Nets will Suck. I can’t believe Thorn is done. I wonder if there was a plan to get Hansbrough that was thwarted by Indiana/
I don’t understand how anyone could be talking about trading Harris. He’s Nets most reliable scorer with Vince.

but still don’t the Carter move

I am sorry to see VC go but was resolved to it. It was bad enough to see VC go but I wish we could have kept Ryan and given them a choice of Sean, Boone or even Yi. I think Ryan is a sleeper and will have a good career.
I am trying to look at the bright side of this but it’s hard. I don’t know where they replace the offense that VC brought. I guess Frank gets another pass with all the changes which will also drive me crazy.
This trade is better than the other crap we were offered which is the only good thing I can say. VC, Godspeed. Thanks for the memories. I hope you come back and posterize Yi.
by Peter on Jun 25, 2009 9:17 PM EDT reply actions
unless the magic are losing Hedo, what is the reason for VC? THere are not enough shots on that team! He is not as good a defender as Lee.
For the Nets: a good deal in this environment. We got a good young player and two good role players. We got cap relief. We will be way under and can even justify a signing now. We got better defensively. Lee has more playoff experience than any Net! With him and Williams and Battie we have some solid defenders. But why not ship out YI? I can’t believe he will start again for this team! Any chance we can get Boozer or something resembling a real PF now? Lopez needs to grow fast.
And for the VC whiners: this is what a team is; this is what being a real fan is. Watch us grow. Enjoy. THere is no pressure to win. Watch Lee, Yi, Lopez, Harris, Williams (T that is) and CDR develop and see if any can be stars.
by chris paul on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions
The nets arent done yet in this draft and i know it i have a feeling that something else is about to happen plus they have enough money for Boozer so we’ll see.
by Dezhaun24 on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions
Nets have to develop some kind of plan to find a PF. Maybe throw a 1 yr deal at Ike Diogu…I can’t see them signing anyone long term.
by Chris2 on Jun 25, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions
the only bad thing now is you traded Brook lopez’s close friend Ryan so we might have a problem

Wheew! I’m just glad to get all of those psycho Vince Carter fans off our shoulders, who really thought Vince was going to incredulously morph into a superstar/team leader.
I regret losing his veteran leadership and his calm but Vince can’t do much more for us than some young and upcoming players can. Besides, he was swallowing up too much cap space.
I’m actually now excited for the season to begin because we have some promise and we opted for change, not this constant whining and making excuses for losing. Good moves. You have to take some chances, nomatter what the consequences.

Ok, so I said I did not want us to gift wrap Vince to the Cavs, so instead we gift wrap him for the Magic. We can probably book a Finals between Orlando and San Antonio now. With two of our players. As for the trade, we did get a nice young player back in Courtney Lee, however, why did we have to include another nice young player in Ryan Anderson? I hope this does not devastate Brook’s mental state. Please, tell me why we could not have kept Ryan and unloaded Yi? Another year with Yi starting at the PF position is grueling to fathom. Maybe this leads us to another trade soon. The drafting of Terrence Williams intrigues me and maybe he can become a very good player for us.
Nonetheless, a very sad day. RIP Michael Jackson. Thanks for the memories Vince. My girlfriend is crushed! A final send off; HE IS VINCE CARTER……..ITS A VC 33333333….DID YOU SEE VC?

I never cared much for Vince. Jason Kidd accomplished more with this team in one month than Vince did in 4 years but that’s not the point right now. Ownership has just told fans of the New Jersey Nets once and for all to go away. I’m tired of being spit on, i’m tired of being treated like a piece of garbage. Ratner and Yormark are the real pieces of garbage and deserve to be treated as such. Anyone who financially supports this team as long as they are here is pitiful. This team is an utter, complete laughingstock thanks entirely to them.

I think this trade finally secures a ring for him.
Best wishes to Vince Carter. You will be missed.

I’ll miss you, Vince Carter. Nets aren’t getting Lebron or Wade. They don’t want to come to a bottom team. Duh.

It’s sad to see VC go, but at least he went to a team with a chance to win it all. I love all the things he did for the Nets, and made the game more exciting then the Kidd/Martin era. I was hoping that he retired as a Net, but this is how the business goes.
I can’t see us winning more than half of the games that we won this year, next year. I say if we are lucky we get 17 wins.
I don’t know where our offense is going to come from, and don’t even talk about our defense, because it’s non-existent. I wonder who is going to be the team captain?
I don’t think Harris has earned the captain spot nor any of our other players on the roster. Next year, Brook will have to be the center of our offense, I really hope so.
With all these cap space for next year, we better sign a superstar, otherwise we will be in the sh*t hole for the next 5 years. I would be really upset if we don’t sign a lebron, wade, or bosh.
Once again, to Vince for all he had done. I wish him the best of luck in Orlando, and hope he win it all next year.

by spartan on Jun 26, 2009 1:29 AM EDT reply actions
What people need to realize is 1 or 2 players change a franchise.
No FA will care that we won 20 games next year, they will see Harris and Lopez and solid role players and know its a good situation. We have a better supporting cast for a superstar than anyone in the league, we just dont have the superstar yet.
by Kevin on Jun 26, 2009 1:50 AM EDT reply actions
I am a huge Vince Carter fan and therefore I am happy to see my man on a real contender. But at the same time I like the nets. This franchise rejuvinated Vince and made him the superstar again he is supposed to be. I will never forget that…….I wish this franchise all the best!
speaking of the magic it is obvious that they are the team to beat. With a core of Nelson, Carter, Lewis and Howard (Hedo will test the FA-market), they are pretty unbeatable. Carter is the missing link, by providing the scoring and shot-making ability, the magic desperately needed int he finals.
I really hope Carter will get standing ovations when returing to the izod, since he gave everything he had, to make this franchise better
cheers
by dadi on Jun 26, 2009 2:43 AM EDT reply actions
Kevin, what you and everyone else looking to 2010 should know is that there are other teams, in the East, who have freed up cap for 2010….and they are all better than us!!!
FAs WILL care if we are still gutter dwellers by next summer. Chicago is a good market, as is Miami, as is NY (Knicks)—-those are all solid setups. Don’t let a new stadium fool you, the team actually does matter if these big named FAs are going to spend their prime years on your team.

Funny that VC, who never wanted out of NJ, now has a better chance at winning a championship than Kidd who publicly wanted out to win one.

Lets establish a couple of things. VC lives in Orlando. Hopefully he will do better for them than he did for us. Or will they expose the fact that he doesnt have the fire to win a ring. Only the fire to get paid. Good bye and thans for the memories. heres a coyple of things you can be sure of.
#1. Skip to my Loo will play his tail off being back home.
#2, Courtney lee will show last year is no fluke and that we have just begun to show us what hes capable of.
#3. Devin Harris will be better. Brook will be better. CDR will be better.
#4. The Nets will play better defense. Because VC played NONE!!!
#5. No one will sabatage wins like VC dopes because he really doesznt want to make the playoffs.
#6. TWill plays defense and has insane desire. We havent seen that since KMart.

What do you expect the Nets to do? Hold on to Vince and watch him take shots away from a promising center in Brook Lopez?
Yeah, He’s not 40, but if you were running the team you’d try to deal him when he’s got absolutely nothing left.
And don’t try to take your frustration out on me with insults, because i’ll be working in the business in a couple years. You won’t.

We didn’t get anything mind-blowing in the deal, i think we would have gotten the same if the move was made later this year or even next offseason.

It’s a disgrace that there are punk Nets fans who can’t say something nice about VC as he leaves. He did a lot for this team and your comments are shameful.
The Anderson for Lee trade is a marginally good one for us. Lee established himself as a good player in his rookie year. Anderson did to a lesser degree, then hit the wall at the end of the season. He will be great in Orlando’s scheme that shoots lots of 3s.
Alston and Battie are two of my least favorite players in the league. I realize that their contract are expiring, but Alston can’t shoot or defend, and Battie is a no-skill hack. I sincerely hope that we can package them to a team that is even more broke than we are. The team as is will be worse than last year’s and much less watchable.
This is a straight salary dump and we are kidding ourselves if we think that we will make a play in the 2010 FA market. Even if we had the resources to sign a major star, nobody will want to come to an unstable, cash strapped team in New Jersey. We are just cutting costs. Period. I blame the NIMBY’s for killing Ratner’s business plan with nuisance lawsuits. We had a chance to be a financially solid franchise in Brooklyn. Now we are holding fire sales and discussing savior oligarchs.
Thanks Vince and I’m happy for you in that you are going back home to a contender. But it is a sad day for me and for this franchise. It is becoming increasingly clear that even if we are able to develop a good young team, we won’t be able to afford to keep them together long enough to contend for a title.
