Harris Hints Injuries Hurt Him in Most Improved Vote

In his player's blog, Devin Harris writes he hasn't let his loss to Danny Granger in the MIP vote "build up on me too much" but suggests his various injuries may have hurt his chances. So, he notes, "Working at being out there every day and preventing injuries will help me most improve as a player." Harris also writes about trips to the Caymans and China and how he appreciated the time he spent with Brook Lopez.

i agree the injuries killed him. 3 games he didn’t even get to play the whole game. That celtics game where he was benched, the kings game when he left at halftime, and the clippers game. That hurt his average a lot.

Injuries played a key role, but his outright refusal to play defense and turnovers late in games also played a factor. I think getting benched also had something to do with it.
He shouldn’t be so consumed with these stupid awards. It would have been nice if he had won, but he needs to start thinking about playing to win instead of playing to get individual accolades, this is one thing that bothers me about Harris’ attitude. The accolades come when you are making everyone else around you better and winning games, not when your team is getting torched 3 out of every 5 nights and playing garbage defense.

I agree with Dollar BIlls!
These awards mean very little in comparison to team’s success. I hope “preventing injuries” doesn’t mean “less effort on defense”.

Harris said he cares more about the team. If harris didn’t step up this year we would of been much worse. Give him some credit

Devon does need to stay on the court which means he needs to refine his game so he isn’t getting fouled hard when he drives to the by creating with a set offense or by kicking the ball out sooner on his drives as to not get put on the ground.
Gotta love that Devin and brook are building a relationship

Glad Devin and Brook are spending alot of time together this summer. They need to think as one, and work very closely together on and off the court next year. PICK & ROLL!!!
Devin being injured and playing hurt for ten or more games last year did not cost us too many wins, as Dooling played very very well in his absence. If anything, Dooling subbing so well forced LFrank to play him even more, after Devin returned. I would like to see Devin playing off the ball sometimes, with Dooling playing the point. I hope Devin has time this summer to work on his mid-range game. GO NETS!

Actually, Paul! That’s not entirely correct.
You shouldn’t evaluate the possibility of a win simply based on Dooling’s production while replacing Harris as a starter. Dooling did successfully fill in for Harris, but who took up Dooling’s production as the sixth man in those 10 games? NOt to mention we’re extremely vulnerable in the ball-handling aspect when either Harris, Carter, or Dooling is out.

@bark
i agree with you. The NBA is about marketing now. Do you think David Stern want to see a orlando/Denver series? Ratings will be off the charts if its Cavs/Lakers.
by jes on May 29, 2009 11:55 PM EDT reply actions
How upset must Stern be to see Orlando winning. If the game is close they don’t stand a chance beating Lebron and the refs. Look for Howard to be in early foul troble.

Injuries are going to be an issue with DH. He is slight by NBA standards and much of his game consists of attacking the basket. That combination exposes him to a high risk of injury. I don’t believe he has the body to stand up to that for 82 games and then, were the Nets to make the playoffs, I find it hard to believe he could withstand the physicality you see in the playoffs for multiple series.

Hey just to throw this out there. I think Brook Lopez would have been even more effective this year if he had Kidd running the point instead Harris.

Yup, I remember when Harris was the starting point guard on a finals team. He played in crutches, as I recall.

That trade wasnt made for this past season…and Kidd’s antics and trade led to more losses and a higher pick. Kidd helped us get Lopez.

Excellent point Netincome, but i think as far a player devlopment he would’ve been better of with Kidd then Harris.
