Looking Forward...and Far Away

In this week's off-season report, we look at our weekly draft sleeper, of course, but also whether the Nets should consider a back-up center, not just a back-up point; the hidden value of Yi Jianlian; who the Nets hired as their new international scout; how the Nets' first international pick--in 1984--turned into one of the best scorers ever and what's up with Kansas City and Seattle...if anything.

Since there were no other comments, I would second the thought of going after Robin Lopez. He was the 15th pick in a good draft year which is easily comparable to a #11 this year.
Nets fans are dreaming of a future All Star with the 11th pick. However, as pointed out, if something were to happen to BLopez, do we really want Boone as Center? Nets fans should have more confidence in Robin, than at Phoenix. Robin has proven that he can also play alongside Brook and give him the help he has asked for.
Statistically, RLopez had a poor year, not much different from Josh Boone. Shaq just said he wants to play another 3 years. Phoenix may be using Amare more at Center and the Suns have Swift on roster. Suns may be willing to take Boone for RLopez along with something else – namely to swap the 11 with 14 draft picks so that Phoenix can improve their chances for a quality point guard (they might trade Nash later on, in a rebuilding effort).
If Thorn could pull this off, there would still be a chance to get a combo forward like James Johnson, with the 14th pick.
If however, someone like DeRozan falls to #11, then Thorn would have to find another way to get Robin.
Regarding the Stimulus money, there are more reports of the Stimulus funds not being used fast enough, nor to create enough long term jobs. AY would be a model example how to use 200 million to help generate thousands of jobs for many years. Hopefully, Damato still has enough connections.

@billy:
I assume the “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry” is for the Stimulus money!
That subject always elicits a predictable reaction.
Nets fans better realize that franchise will be in trouble if Brooklyn falls through. Also, it would be easier to sign players if Brooklyn is future of team.
Regarding Robin Lopez, I have yet to see anyone write that Robin sucks, so I would assume Nets fans would view RLopez as an upgrade over Boone. The real question to ask is whether Frank would ever give minutes to a “Center-type” to play PF?
My answer is that Lawrence would if he thought that he would be fired otherwise.
