Jayson Williams Hospitalized After Incident at Manhattan Hotel

Former Net Jayson Williams was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital after an incident at a Battery Park City hotel Monday morning. Williams, distraught over a series of personal issues, reportedly trashed his hotel room, was apparently suicidal and had to be stunned with a taser and handcuffed. Williams is awaiting retrial on reckless manslaughter charges and battling his wife in divorce court.

Nets could use a little toughness…sign him up…

This is just terrible. Jayson was one of the best things about this franchise for a very long time and it’s awful to see how bad he’s doing since the injury incident with Marbury. I hope he gets the help he needs and is able to live his life.

This is horrible to hear, as he was one of my favorite Nets in the 90’s. I really hope he can get the help he needs

Nets are very lucky he and Marbury went down in a heap on on April 1, 1999 or they would have been paying him big bucks forever. That contract he signed in the summer of 1998 may have been the worst ever signed by the Nets.
Age/Season/Salary
31 1998-99 – $11 million
32 1999-00 – $12.375 million
33 2000-01 – $13.75 million
34 2001-02 – $15.125 million
35 2002-03 – $16.5 million
36 2003-04 – $17.875 million
37 2004-05 – $19.25 million
-————————————-
Total $105.875 million
Let’s get real…he is a bad guy who could play basketball. He killed a man. Enough sympathy.

That’s an awfully broad stroke you’re painting with there. I’m not saying Jayson Williams is a model citizen, but he certainly hasn’t had it easy (at least until the NBA). His two half sisters died of AIDS when he was in his teens. He took care of their kids while going to SJU and legally adopted them when he turned pro. Obviously, the NBA helped provide him with the luxuries to “protect” him from the law. Nonetheless, he is obviously in trouble and needs help. Hopefully he gets the help he needs … and does the time he deserves.

As a player, Jayson Williams really was great for the Nets. He was energetic and had a great deal of pride when it came to playing in NJ. I was disappointed to learn of what happened back in 2002 and this disappoints me even further.

He killed a man while drunk, threatening the man before he killed him.

All of us who remember Jason as a Nets player remember him as a player who would take the time to meet all of the fans and sign autographs for everyone. He was the ultimate gentlemen and when he got injured we were all devistated. He made a tragic mistake and like the play Les Miz he keeps living with the tragedy every day of his life. It does seem that the court system is also out of the play as they continually and redundantly try him for the same crime over and over again. Jason deserves our prayers

This is such a shame. While the following the Nets with even moredie-hard passion in the ’90s than I do even today, Jayson was always one of my favorites. I had the pleasure of meeting him at least 4 or 5 times and even personally handed him a birthday card twice at the arena – a gesture he seemed to appreciate as he remembered me each time I saw him thereafter.
Jayson clearly has two personalities – a kind and affable one when he is sober and a totally different and destructive one when drunk. The man has a bad disease and unfortunately it has taken over his life seemingly and has caused the death of another.
A true shame – before RJ, Jayson was the only player I can remember that was proud to be a Net. He treated the fans like they were important unlike so many of today’s players. I miss watching Jayson on the court and I feel terrible about what has become of him – with all due to sympathy to the family of Gus Cristofi.
Jayson – please get help and hopefully get better.

Net Income – it’s a little late for me to research your comment about Marbury’s contract but if it were indeed signed in ‘98 like you said, it would have been done so by the Wolves not the Nets. Starbury’s sorry behind was traded to the Nets during the lockout season of ‘98-99 which didn’t start until the winter of ’99. And of course bringing in Marbury led to the greatest thing that ever happened to this franchise – the trade for Jason Kidd.

If he weren’t rich, he would be in prison.

Who said he threatened he threatened the guy? It was a drunken accident

Lots of rich athletes went to jail for murder. Jayson Williams was a good guy that did something really dumb. I can only imagine having your life hang in the ballance of the courts for years then have to go through an divource.too much for any man to handle. it was all a mistake and he should have done his ten years allready.
