Remembering (Trying to Forget?) John Calipari

Speaking of coaches who run up and down the sideline shouting instructions...John Calipari, formerly of the Nets, took over the troubled Kentucky hoops program Wednesday. It's been a decade since the Nets fired him (in the back of Lewis Katz's limo, we recall). Chris Broussard provides a recap of the turbulent "Coach Cal" Era in East Rutherford, all the good, the bad and the ugly.

Great article. I remember the 1998 playoffs when we faced the Bulls. I had just started getting into basketball then and when the Nets almost took Game 1 I remember loving the way they played (and being from NJ). It wasn’t till the year they drafted K-Mart I really started becoming a fan and watching the games. But that playoff series got me on the road to the Psycho-Nets-Fan that I am today.

Also, I don’t know if any of you guys remember this. But back when Calipari first became coach I remember seeing billboard signs for him in NYC by the Port Authority saying how he would change the Nets franchise. That was the first time then and now that I can remember a coach getting public promotion like that.

Coach Cal had the Nets on the RIGHT TRACK. If the the players are spoiled babies and don’t like their feelings hurt, TOO BAD! The man knows how to coach basketball plain and simple. it’s a crime that Cal didn’t even get 3 full seasons while this complete joke Larry Frank has been here for 5 + years!!!
Best coaches in Nets history: 1. Daly (due to past success) 2. Byron (2 Finals is 2 Finals with or without J5) 3. Stan Albeck 4. John Calipari 5. Bill Fitch – THE REST HAVE ALL BEEN COMPLETE UTTER JOKES
