RJ on What Might Have Been: "I Probably Would Have Killed Somebody"

Richard Jefferson doesn't hold back. In talking to beat reporters, RJ admitted that if the Nets had kept him and Nenad Krstic, they might have won a few more games, but "I probably would have killed somebody by now." So the Nets had chemistry issues, you say? He didn't identify who he might have offed, but his relations with Lawrence Frank had soured. Krstic's knee injury? It was as much mental as physical, he says.

I would say it’s VC. I saw RJ give VC a look today and vice versa that was not a friendly look. RJ definitely took exception that he was the number one option scoring wise after Martin left and then VC came and stole his thunder.

i miss RJ’s tough minded attitude. yeah we all knew it was time. Kidd went and RJ was next to go. many wanted Frank out first, but it would just prolong the rebuilding phase.
i wish RJ the best and love him for the time he was here. i think we can all agree that the most attractive part about RJ is how he had NJ Nets pride. yeah he would love to be on the big stage in MSG or out in LA, but RJ didnt bash the fans or the franchise or the history here. he never wanted out and kept saying he wanted to retire a net. that is what i loved about him. despite chemistry being bad and wanting to move his contract and his D declined, he still wanted to retire a Net. i mean how many people said that?
im sure in a couple of years when his contract is up he will end up on a contender. he is the perfect 3rd option and could be a nice 2nd option depending on who the 1st is.
still a little weird seeing him in a bucks uni.

@ Psycho
Dude, they’re really good friends, in the past 3 games they’ve always been joking around with one another. And during one the past games between them, Ian Eagle commented on their relationship and how they still talk with one another about kids and tattoos. Besides, the article says that he and LF weren’t on good terms, which I think is cuz at first he was the number 1 scoring option but after some games where that didn’t work, the ball went through VC more often. If anything RJ has learned a lot from VC, his ball handling has improved, he’s developed an outside shot, honing all the aspects of his game that VC was superior in. He’s always been a team first player, hell he’s playing along Redd.

Miss RJ and his usually brutally honest comments. He was very loyal to the Nets, and wanted to stay regardless.

rj and vc are very friendly. he means coach frank. frank is out of here. after this last press conference you can see he is defeated.

“Jefferson wouldn’t elaborate, but has said he needed to hear a new voice, a remark directed at coach Lawrence Frank.”
like i have said 100X b4 the players dont like this midget. he gets no respect in the locker room or league. a mistake was made this offseason by not getting rid of him. we wasted another year!

You never know what goes on behind the scenes although some know more than others, heres my guess. RJ comes to a team that goes to the finals led by K-Mart and Kidd and sees what it takes to win. After they lose K-Mart, Thorn tries to replace him with VC but offense doesn’t replace defense. When Opie took over he didn’t have the creditbility to install his game plan right away and all the while Thorn is trying different big men to get that defensive presence back. After Krstic went down and Boone and Swat were not effective cuz they were young, Opie had his chance to go small. Kidd blew up, RJ probably rebeled quietly cuz of his loyalty and VC was laughing all the way to the bank. I’d even bet that Swat and Opie had words. I don’t think its a coincendence that Swat played the 4 last year and has not seen a minute there this year even after nothing else has worked. It also has contributed to his acting out. You know how stubborn Opie can be. Maybe his assistants could help him bury the hatched and go with a different style. For his own sake, he better change before he is the change.

Great post by xcalibur, I completely agree. RJ’s loyalty to the Nets was truly something special. So many other players would want out in that situation but he wanted to stick with it. We can only hope to have players half as dedicated to the Nets in the future.
While I agree that this article is mainly directed towards Frank, I definitely think there was an underlying tension between Vince and RJ, regardless of if they’re friendly or cool now. I feel like everyone wants to be “the man” deep down, and when you have to share the spotlight with someone it can be frustrating. I know that I’ve had teammates that I’ve been really good friends with and gotten along with but at the end of the day you clearly want to see yourself as the number one piece of success on the team. Deep down there will always be some level of competition, that could glaze over into some resentment.

I am still thinking that trading JKidd was a mistake, because they need a player that can do triple doubles. However, Devin Harris isn’t all that bad, but his latest games weren’t so good. Trading RJ was probably a bad move, because most of who they have aren’t anywhere near as good as he is. Both Bobby Simmons and Yi Jianlian need to stop taking such wild threes especially if they know that they can’t make them. I really hope that VC doesn’t end up next on the trading block, because that would really cost the Nets in the long run.

RJ is a better player than vc i think because carter plays lazy.Cmnon where’s the VC that used to finish in the lane with wind mills. now he doesn’t even try to drive to the rim anymore. He just wants that paycheck das all.
