Harris vs. Paul...and the Media

FOX Sports' Charley Rosen and CBS Sports' Ken Berger took in Sunday's game to watch Devin Harris and Chris Paul go one-on-one, but took different tacks in their reports. Rosen compares the players and says that "up until the last minute of play, Harris clearly outplayed his rival." Berger looks solely at Harris who, he laments, is "under hyped" in the world's media capital, "the best kept secret in the NBA."
- Harris outduels Paul, but Hornets' star silences Nets - Charley Rosen - FOX Sports
- Near world's media capital, Nets' Harris somehow best-kept secret in NBA - Ken Berger - CBS Sports

I’m not sold on that. Until he gather a pure jumper and learn to create like Paul, then I’ll pass.

if harris was as good as CP3…the nets would have a winning record right now

Runnin’ i think Devin is really close to that perrenial all-star level, this year or next, he’ll be spectacular
in his mind, he is ready to compete for a title, he’s got the finals experience, and he is just hitting his prime.

Don’t forget: Harris was the starting point guard on an NBA Finalist at age 23 and the starting point guard on an NBA team with 67 wins at age 24.

Harris is the best kept secret b/c Nets fans are nearly non existent and we think we that if Harris is a star it will diminish VC. Crazy. Harris has everything going for him to be a star – except a supporting cast that includes a player like West!

he is good however he is not in cp3 league. I hope he make it though

paul has the total pg package…court vision, quickness, a variety of dribble moves, jump shot, smarts, anticipation…the only thing devin can do is to maximize his advantage which is quickness and ability to get to the line to get a leg up on paul just like what he did the last game…with experience and better teammates he can close the gap with paul though i doubt he can overtake him as the best point guard in the nba.

devin can’t be what he is not…it is better to strive to be an allen iverson than to be a chris paul…you would not ask jason collins to play like chris bosh…they have very different skill sets…
the primary thing is to maximize your strenghts…improving on weaknesses is next…instead of the other way around.

The implication of much of what is written here is that Devin Harris believes he is better than Chris Paul or that he can Chris Paul.
There is NOTHING in these articles or anywhere else to suggest that.
I will say after watching last night that Paul has a much better team than Harris has. Also, David West may be the most “under hyped” player in the NBA.

the next two things devin needs to do to elevate himself more is to get back to playing solid pg defense and improve his passing. if he can do those two things next year people will take notice.
this is his first year really being a go-to guy. he is learning a lot this year and has a lot of responsibility. so hopefully this summer and next year he can practice and expand his game like all top nba players do.
we are very lucky to have him. whether the NY/National media knows about him or not it doesnt matter because those in the nba circle know devin and sing high praise for him from day 1

Once again going small hurt us down the stretch. They had Chandler and West and we had Swat or Lopez with 4 smalls. So Swat guards West cuz he is there go-to guy and every time we tried to get Swat help we fouled cuz nobody on the court could help influence a shot other than Swat. Then were out coached. Down by 1 and our big who is guarding West is forced out high for a screen and although they miss the shot we are left with VC on Chandler down low and they get the rebound off a tip back. There were other plays that cost us but again going small hurt. At least we were able to spread the floor with our shooting bigs. It just helped in so many ways. lol. I could actually live with that game plan if the forwards could play d but they can’t even shoot. Opie starts with weak forwards and ends with small forwards. All the while he’s looking for shooters. Got to be the dumbest game plan I ever saw.

Good post, libigman. The Nets are 18 – 15 when Yi, Anderson and Najera combine for 41 minutes or more. The Nets are 8 – 18 when those three relatively conventional PFs combine to play less than 41 minutes.

The Nets lost too many winnable games, so they are so bad now. Sigh… when will be a .600 team.

frank went small because it was working recently and yi/anderson are playing like garbage …

Chris Paul creates only one turnover per game, Harris need to take care of the ball better in order to be in his league
by d M on Mar 2, 2009 12:59 PM EST reply actions
i never said that Harris thinks he is better than Paul, I said in his mind he is ready to compete for a title, like Net Income said he’s been on a finals team, he’s tasted that and wants more.
by justin on Mar 2, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions
@d M
Paul avg’s 3 to’s per game and Devin 2.9. Even though I do think he should take better care of the ball especially late in the game.
Devin will be a top 5 pg for years to come. Maybe not number 1… but top 5.
And he won’t get the respect due in part because of the media and in part because there aren’t too many knowledgeable Net fans.

i’d say devin is the 4th best pg in the league. he’s right behind cp3, d-will, and parker. after that its a toss- up between him and billups.
by jersey34 on Mar 2, 2009 1:54 PM EST reply actions
Devin is grasping how to make the adjustments and find the right guys when teams zone in on him. That’s a great sign for us.

Looking at the stats, Paul is number one and the rest are up for debate. But Devin is in the conversation for sure. Devin is very comparable to Tony Parker.
Harris, Devin – 44.2 FG% – 6.7 asts – 2.9 T.O.- 22.3 PPG
Williams, Deron – 46.5 FG% – 10.5 asts – 3.5 T.O.- 18.6 PPG
Paul, Chris – 49.5 FG% – 11.0 asts – 3.0 T.O. – 21.4 PPG
Parker, Tony – 48.1 FG% – 6.6 asts – 2.6 T.O. – 20.4 PPG
Billups, Chauncey – 42.4 FG% – 6.1 asts – 2.2 T.O.- 18.7 PPG

Until Devin learns to pass and get everyone involve at best he ever will be is a notch below Iverson.
I think Carter as a SG has more of mindset to get everyone involve then Harris.
by seeker on Mar 2, 2009 2:52 PM EST reply actions
that’s why we still need carter…if somehow we retained rj instead of vc devin and rj would be chucking shots left and right battling to be top dog…
