Nets Have Chance To Do It On Their Own

Of the six teams struggling to make that eighth and final playoff spot, the Nets may have the toughest schedule, but they also have a couple of distinct advantages. They play more games against the other five than any of their rivals and they have the two best players in Vince Carter and Devin Harris. The Nets start off the day a half game behind the Bucks, but a game ahead of them in the loss column.

I say we draft the best small forward available with our lottery pick

ealr clark baby!!!!

by Andy on Mar 13, 2009 10:13 AM EDT reply actions

this team sucks.

by JohnY on Mar 13, 2009 10:35 AM EDT reply actions

Frank is still here. Nothing will change.

We will miss the playoffs, and even if we barely get in, we’ll be swept right out of the first round.

Such an awesome leader we have. It’s too bad nobody else can come take him off our hands.

by eLone on Mar 13, 2009 10:43 AM EDT reply actions

Earl Clark is THE MAN.

by Andrés on Mar 13, 2009 10:57 AM EDT reply actions

my prediction is that frank will be fire at the end of the season.

by Andy on Mar 13, 2009 11:06 AM EDT reply actions

Frank won’t be fired, nor should he be.

OMG the team isnt 66-0, it must be the coach. Give me a break. You people blame everything on the coach solely because if you blame the players there is no way you can look your posters on your wall in the face anymore.

If the nets had better players Frank’s rotation would not matter. The bench isn’t deep. You got Simmons, Anderson, Hayes and Swat. Thats it. Then you have Boone and Ager just taking up space and one empty roster space. And then to top if off you have Yi starting. He should be in Boone’s company.

Now lets hear it: “Come on, Yi has only been playing for 2 years, give him time…bob loblaw”

I don’t get how people who say, :“who cares about the playoffs, we’d just get swept.” well why did you watch at all this season, the nets werent expected to go far, or win the trophy. You should take this season and next off until your golden boy (whoever he may be) shows up in 2010 in the fanciful Atlantic Yards.

This is on ESPN today:
Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams has decided not to have surgery on his ailing back, opting for a more conservative treatment program.

Williams is back in Atlanta after meeting with a specialist in Durham, N.C. The fourth-year player, averaging 14.0 points and 6.4 rebounds, has missed two straight games with lower back pain.

The Hawks said Thursday Williams is out indefinitely but will try to resolve his problem with rest and treatment. Atlanta is undefeated without Williams in the lineup, winning all five games he’s missed this season.
I think this could a) make Atlanta even less likely to look to match an offer for him and b) could drive his price down even lower

Also with Atlanta going undefeated without him in the lineup and the fact that most likely they are getting Childress back from Greece – I really think Williams will be someplace other than Atlanta next year for an inexpensive deal by NBA standards

We overachieved this season.

by kevin on Mar 13, 2009 11:44 AM EDT reply actions

unless 32-yr old vc has saved enough in his tank to be vintage vc these last games of the regular season, with our tough schedule it looks like we’ll miss it…a 7-game win streak should do the trick. we’ll also need a 20/10 yi jianlian (the yi jianlian who appeared just before he got injured) though to make noise in the playoffs or the nets will be fishing after 4 games…the next draft is weak so nets should aim to get to the playoffs…we’ll get dallas’ high pick the following year anyway after the mavs crash and burn next season… ;)

by jirohkanzaki on Mar 13, 2009 12:29 PM EDT reply actions

This whole notion of people getting tired and not having anything left in the tank is a total mirage. They are all super athletes specifically trained to last an entire year of running up and down the court. Vince will be fine.

by Tim on Mar 13, 2009 1:29 PM EDT reply actions

this draft is not going to be as horrible as people think – and missing the playoffs gives you an early Round 2 pick where there should be some true value – Ty Lawson will fall due to his being hurt. Wayne Ellington is probably a late 1st rounder, more likely 2nd round pick. Jack McClinton from Miami same story. Getting swept in 4 games is not worth it. Would prefer to see us get a couple more young guys to add to this young mix and you are really building for the future

by Ryan243 on Mar 13, 2009 1:53 PM EDT reply actions

i like that vazquez kid from maryland…and i hope victor claver declares i think he is going to be good…

we should really aim for earl clark…

by Andy on Mar 13, 2009 2:11 PM EDT reply actions

Clark is definitely a player with upside, but has certain immaturity that I may not want to see on this team.

by Sami on Mar 13, 2009 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

with a young team (that could get younger if they deal VC) you need to focus on character – actually if you are looking to build a team with a strong core for teh future – character should be one of the most important attributes

by Ryan243 on Mar 13, 2009 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

One distinct disadvantage, the Nets play with no heart. A coasting team, only if the other teams suck worse will the Nets get into the playoffs. It won’t be for effort, intensity, consistency or defense.

by Bill on Mar 13, 2009 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

vince carter sucks

by mills on Mar 13, 2009 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

Still believe we’ll make the playoffs.

by R.M. on Mar 13, 2009 3:02 PM EDT reply actions

Dare I dream that CDR plays 15-20 minutes to help with scoring? How long do we have to WAIT???

by Memphis Slim on Mar 13, 2009 3:25 PM EDT reply actions

kevin is right we overachieved this season…it’s not like we’re the raptors making a blockbuster deal for jermaine o’ neal to go deep in the playoffs and chris bosh making mvp overtures early in the season only to scrape the bottom of the standings…either way this season is a success for the nets what with devin and brook having a fantastic season…

by jirohkanzaki on Mar 13, 2009 3:42 PM EDT reply actions

Trenton, you sound like one of those guys who wonders why his kid is so bad and take no blame.Frank is doing a god awfull job.he does some things right but the bad outweights the good. For me to blame the player i would have to say that V.C suck,Harris is a bum,Lopez and Anderson are unproductive rookies that cant help, signing Dooling was a big mistake that Yi really has no skills,Simmons cant shoot….I can go on but i hope you guys get the point.

i’ll tuff it out this season but if the team cant swallow Franks contract then i cant deal with it. How do you let a guy get swept out the playoff then go consecutive seasons without a post-season birth?

by Zartan on Mar 13, 2009 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

We aren’t gonna make the playoffs guys…don’t get your hopes up…

by pringshia on Mar 13, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

i like the players that are projected in the lottery this year…so i dont mind if we miss the playoffs anymore…

by Andy on Mar 13, 2009 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

Look on the bright side from last night. At least the Bulls and Bucks lost their games last night, so it could have been worse. I do agree that they cannot come up cold in either the third or fourth quarter, which has been found to be costly for them. I doubt that the Bulls could beat the Hornets tonight. The Nets can get out of that tie with the Knicks with a win tomorrow night against the Clippers with a Knicks loss to the Cavs, which could be likely. Even though I hate the Yankees (I am a Mets fan) as Yogi Berra would say it, “It’s not over until it’s over.”
