It's Not Just the Tweeting

It turns out that Terrence Williams wasn't benched for tweeting his displeasure about where he plays and how often. He was benched because he was out late Monday night and then missed the team bus Tuesday, an automatic fine and benching. "So they decided to put him on ice," a team official said. "Now let’s see if he gets the message." The Nets have yet to decide if he'll be fined for his tweeting.
- Nets benched Williams for missing bus, staying out late - Dave D'Alessandro - Star-Ledger
- Williams sits for 2nd game - Fred Kerber - New York Post

So he gets benched for 2 games?
He could have been very useful tonight in the up and down game.

the nets should have drafted tyler hansborough or amri casspi, given the fact that they are very weak at the SF and PF position. casspi looks like a steal for the kings. he plays all out all the time. the kind of player who gives you 200 percent everytime he is out on the floor.

the nets could have also tried to pick up hakkim warrick or brandon bass

Man, we need to start drafting character guys. And tardiness or no tardiness with his horrible shot selection, he deserves to be benched

Worst season ever for the Nets
One of the worst rookies ever picked by us, along with SWat, why we couldnt have landed on budinger? you know how many times i said: Land on budinger, land on budinger, land on budinger
Chase Budinger (Rockets guard by the way)
No we had to land in someone who cant score, shoots worst than my grandma, turns the ball over like 100 times every game……..
not to mention he doesnt like the Nets team.
trade him or waive plz, we cant depend on someone who doesnt like us.

TWill has a better shooting% from 3 than CLee. What has CLee done to deserve all his minutes. He stinks.
by Tom F on Dec 10, 2009 8:19 AM EST reply actions
Maybe the problem is not just T-Will. Maybe the real problem is Thorn, Kiki and Co.
This player should of been suspended, immediately.
It’s time for Proky to come in and clean house, starting with management.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 8:50 AM EST reply actions
yeah Brook Lopez and Ryan Anderson were real bad character guys.
Nobody is mentioning that those 2 as well as CDR are 3 of the top rookies from last years draft class

Wow, this just feeds the fire inside of me.
ANGER!
by Dirt on Dec 10, 2009 9:53 AM EST reply actions
Hey Dirt;
I got a funny feeling that this is just the start of T-Will’s antics. The guy just doesn’t get it and never will.
We will probably be seeing his mug shot in the NY Post, any day now.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 10:05 AM EST reply actions
Alvin Gentry was just recently talking about Robin Lopez’ anger management issue. Hoopsworld reports that Gentry said Lopez will be fined and pay for a door he broke during a fit of rage. They go on to say, “Lopez, 21, has shown moments of frustrated rage during practice and even foot rehabilitation, screaming at himself for missed shots.”
Sounds to me like being around his brother wouldn’t be a bad thing for him.
Reuniting Lopez brothers as well as Louisville rookie products Earl Clark and Terrence Williams wouldn’t be too bad of an idea for either team.

@Tom F I AGREE 100% coming into This season C Lee AND T Will were 2 of the Most HYPED and OVERRATED players on our Team! Look at them NOW!
by The GM on Dec 10, 2009 10:16 AM EST reply actions
@Dirt;
If it makes sense, the Nets won’t do it. This franchise will probably sign Nate Robinson next year, to keep Terror-Will happy.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 10:19 AM EST reply actions
@Nets in 2010 where is this “Defense” U and Everybody CLAIMS C Lee has?? He got embarrassed by G States Guards! Speakin of Defense, the “MOST UNDERRATED” defender on our team (CDR) did a GR8 job on Anthony Morrow….and we STILL LOST
by The GM on Dec 10, 2009 10:20 AM EST reply actions
@GM;
I’m starting to think maybe it’s not the players.
If you brought LeBron James to the Nets, he probably would stink.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 10:21 AM EST reply actions
The Nets have this history of taking risks on players with emotional/maturity issues while declining to take similar risks on players with physical issues.
Marcus Williams and Sean Williams had arrest records when they were drafted. They had character issues. Terrence Williams had no arrests, but there were reports on ESPN and elsewhere of “red flags” on character issues. It appears those “red flags” shouldn’t have been ignored.
Jeff McInnis’ locker room problems were well known when the Nets signed him in 2005. His contract ultimately created all sorts of cap space issues. The Nets had declined to pay Keyon Dooling what he wanted that same summer.
The Nets declined to take a risk on Danny Granger because he had a swollen knee. Obviously, he is a great character guy. The Nets declined to take a risk on Dejan Blair as well.
by Net Income on Dec 10, 2009 10:22 AM EST reply actions
I have a great idea! Why not draft players with no character issues or physical issues.
You can take a chance on a character issue player, if you have strong coaches and veterans who take no crap, from these young punks. Of course the Nets don’t have these coaches or players, to keep these “youngsters” in line.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 10:31 AM EST reply actions
@Mike Hahahaha so Your saying there’s a “Curse of The Nets”? I must admit, they look like the Bad News Bears.. I Don’t Know How we’ll attract Free Agents..
by The GM on Dec 10, 2009 10:32 AM EST reply actions
I would love to see T-Will pull this crap with a Kevin Garnett
LeBron James, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan type of player on his team.
He would be scared to show up to practice and get his butt kicked.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 10:54 AM EST reply actions
Everyone getting so down on TWill. Relax. He was out late and missed a team bus. Were none of you 22 before and went out late one night before work and showed up late and hungover? At some point, you have to realize a kid is 22 years old, just out of college, playing in a bad situation where he is frusturated and has far too much money for a 22 year old…..
I don’t know him personally, and I am sure none of you do either. Perhaps he is a bad seed and will be another poor draft choice by this team. But all preseason when him and CDR were in the gym working hard all summer long, nobody was complaining about him. He definitely seems to have a big time work ethic and being best friends on the team with CDR is a good thing. CDR will guide him through his rookie season.
Kiki and Del benching him for 2 straight games hopefully sent a clear message to TWill what is expected of him. I have a feeling that by the end of the year a lot of people here are in the TWill fan club once again. He is a great athlete and looks to have a pretty decent basketball IQ. And his stats for a rookie really are not that bad. Especially considering that he played minutes at the 1-4 this season already. Playing 1 position is difficult as a rookie, playing 4 is almost unfair…

Dont tell me the other Williams is a headcase too….
by Justin on Dec 10, 2009 11:46 AM EST reply actions
@Ryan 243 Says:
Your correct again Ryan about T.Williams. He is just teething a little. If you remember a couple of weeks ago. The NYTimes did a solid story on showing him as a high character guy and not just a character.
He lives in Edgewater just in walking distance of J.Boone’s
place.
The guy is a perfect fit for the team as we move forward in the next couple of years.
Being able to play three positions is a luxury and he has it. Tell me whom other then T.Williams on this team can watch K.Bryant? The rest of the team needs to concentrate on what they do well while T.Williams does his thing.
Are you watching the following players for next years draft?
J.WALL/D.FAVORS/G.MONROE/C.ALDRICH/W.JOHNSON
GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS!
by Dziedzic on Dec 10, 2009 11:58 AM EST reply actions
There aren’t any Williams in the 2010 draft we have to worry about are there?
At least NJ never had an all-Williams team.
Marcus Williams
Terrance Williams
Eric Williams
Sean Williams
Jayson Williams / Aaron Williams
Who am I missing?
by Jack Handy on Dec 10, 2009 12:07 PM EST reply actions
Great news fellow Nets fans. Minnesota’s Rodney Williams might be available for us to draft next summer. Another "wing" type player plus another Williams. How lucky can one team and it’s fans get!

Thank you Ryan243. I like how people automatically start labeling people. A few years ago I went to a party in Midtown and guess who was there. Boone, Hassan Adams, and someone else. OH NO!!! They party too much. RELAX People!!! The kid needed to learn this lesson.
@Dirt, why would you want another over-hyped player with anger and frustration issues because they are not as good as they were advertised to be?
by SIC on Dec 10, 2009 1:10 PM EST reply actions
@Ryan243 I was Very AWARE of CDR being in the Gym In NJ as well as his hometown DEtroit…And his Hard Work is SHOWING and WILL be PAYING OFF via Free Agency…But I’ve NEVA heard or Read ANYTHING that said T Will spent Hour after Hour In The Gym…Judging His Shot so Far, I DONT THINK he spent 3mins in The GYM…Face it, he’s a Knucklehead wit average Talent..(Athleticism) so Do me and everybody a Favor, STOP mentioning T Will and CDR in the same sentence..They’re NOTHING alike
by The GM on Dec 10, 2009 1:43 PM EST reply actions
How come they hang out together and both love to shoot their mouths/tweeters off. Birds of a feather flock together.
Can’t wait until CDR demands a trade, 3 weeks from now.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 2:10 PM EST reply actions
@Mike
Interesting that no one thought it odd when Ryan and Brook became fast friends, lived near each other, hung out together, shared interests.. I’m not even sure that TWill and CDR are close buddies like Ryan and Brook, but even if they were, so what?
by Jeff on Dec 10, 2009 2:24 PM EST reply actions
I can’t remember Ryan or Brook mouthing off every 5 minutes about how unhappy they were. These guys sound like a bunch of old ladies, complaining about anything and everything.
CDR is one weird dude in interviews and T-Will is from
another planet.
Now we got Alston crying.
This complaining epedemic is worse then the Swine Flu, and more contagious.
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 2:38 PM EST reply actions
I don’t think we have epidemic complaining from the players. Just from certain posters on this board who “sound like a bunch of old ladies, complaining about anything and everything” and who refer to our players as “weird” “young punks” “from another planet”.

@ SIC -
This is one of the reasons I like CDR. I read somewhere (maybe his Twitter?) that he’s a good kid, who likes to stay in his hotel room & not go out on game nights.
I think Brook is like that, too.
I don’t much about the other Nets players outside of the games, though, so I can’t really comment on them….but generally, I like players who don’t get into a partying lifestyle during the season.
This is your job. You wouldn’t go out partying before a huge project at work, would you? (general question)
by ppoppa on Dec 10, 2009 3:16 PM EST reply actions
@ppoppa – I usually dont party the day before work, but I have done it before. It happens often in society. Pilots drinking. Train Conductors having a few drinks. Doctors on drugs. Pitchers drinking. Players taking steroids. We can go on and on.
The difference here is that this kid is only 21.
by SIC on Dec 10, 2009 4:15 PM EST reply actions
Yeah, I get my first job with an elite firm, with so many eyes and ears, watching and listening. So after one month I go out partying and miss the important team meeting, insult the firms clients and tell them I would rather work somewhere else. That sounds like the thing to do. Please….
by Mike on Dec 10, 2009 4:35 PM EST reply actions
I love how people are always quick to put CDR, one of our best guys, in the same sentence as T-Will, who is quickly exposing himself to be an immature brat that needs lessons in professionalism.
“Mike Says:

^^This. He should have been suspended that same day because doing something that stupid, and then immediately afterwards being late, shows how much this guy’s head is into it. It’s a shame, I have high hopes for him but they are fading QUICK.
by Mr. Dollar Bills on Dec 10, 2009 4:48 PM EST reply actions
I am more worried by the fact that his unhappiness affects his on court play. You can teach someone to shut up, but actual maturity to come in everyday and work will take a long time. It’s like the kind of transformation someone goes through after getting cut.
So watch for T-Will, 2012 comeback player of the year… with the Hornets.

Every thread Tom F posts on he has to take a shot at Courtney Lee. I literally have seen no post from him where he does not have something negative to say about C.Lee. This topic doesnt even have anything to do with Lee. I am beginning to think C.Lee did something personally to Tom F.
by Chris2 on Dec 10, 2009 5:41 PM EST reply actions
@Jackhandy
You missed Buck Williams.
Terrence should have played against GSW and would have matched perfect against Maggette. Terrence on some team will be instrumental. The NETS needs a good PG. Dooling is fine but Alston , he is very error prone, not the thing you want from a PG. CDR is alright, but he has a lot to learn and some of them are stupid amateur mistakes. I like what Boone is doing and this is the best adjustment since Kiki handled the team. If Yi comes back that would only work if he will contribute offensively to offset weakness on defense. C Lee is still young and I would see him improve on his offense once we can get a good PG who can feed them at the right spot. Right now NETS are not yet ready but I am seeing improvements specially CDR & Brooks. Harris and Alston is a bad combination on offense. They don’t seem to a good teamwork. Harris really needs to improve his defense. If we can get antoher Williams , Derone Williams we will have a better team. Add a PF like Bosh or Stoudemire then the NETS will be back in contention.

Wow…still bad mouthing people without any facts or details, and now you guys are labeling players with the Williams moniker. Never seen such avid koolaid drinkers in my life!
How do you guys know whether ANY of them have character, maturity or any other issues when YOU DON"T EVEN KNOW THEM!
In the sports and entertainment world the media, owners, coaches, beat writers etc. spin stories about people to meet their needs and agendas and you guys still believe the hype.
Because you are human (i.e., not perfect either), you should understand that no one is as good or as bad as spin doctors would have you believe based on whatever agenda they are trying to push.
I think TWill’s tweeting is just plain stupid and immature, but my goodness, does it make him a criminal or warrant calling every former Nets player named Williams a criminal or bad seed?
Would you stand up under the same scrutiny, especially at the ripe age of 19 -22 years old? I know I wouldn’t even though I’ve never been arrested.
You need to let it go and stop blaming young players who have no power in any of these situations…your team (management, players, coaches, on and on ) is just sorry…period.

@Dirt
Great trade suggestion. Gives NETS the athletic energy bench big we need. Less concerned about losing TWILL with Dooling clearly OK after off season surgery. TWILL fits Phoenix style. I know it is to early to give up on TWILL (and I have not) but this would be a nice trade assuming Brook was OK.
