Thorn Watches Wall

Rod Thorn drove across the Hudson last night following the Warriors game to take a look at the player he could be taking in June's NBA Draft...Kentucky's John Wall. Under league rules, Thorn couldn't comment on what he saw, but admitted the Nets would probably be picking in the lottery. Chris Douglas-Roberts, also at the game, didn't have any restrictions. He saw a lot of his college teammate, Derrick Rose, in Wall.
- Wall, No. 4 Kentucky beat No. 14 UConn - Adam Zagoria - SNY
- UK's Wall head and shoulders above rest of nation - Jeff Goodman - FOX Sports

He probably felt more hope watching that game than if he’d watched the Nets.

J.Wall is the real deal along with being a high character guy.
Rod will do the right thing next year if this guy comes out.
But please remember our team needs are Starting PF, Back up Center and Rotating SF.
If they come out next year their are guys that fit our needs with high character also.
G.Monroe/Georgetown, W.Johnson/Syracuse, C.Aldrich/Kansas and also adfd D.Favors/Georgia Tech.
By picking from this group you cannot go wrong with the future of the Brooklyn Nets.
Instead of going after overpriced free agents. The team should look into getting two more top picks in the 2010 draft by taking money to buy some picks. Their are teams hurting financially along with taking some of our bench players with low contracts. Example: J.BOONE, S.WILLIAMS even throw in Yi if we can. Just ask the question isn’t the four players mentioned for 2010 draft better then what we have? You better believe it.
GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS!

Watching these games this year has been about as much fun as staring at a wall.

@eddy
Davis is sooooo overrated.
Derrick Favors = stud.
Greg Monroe would be a great pick up too if we’re looking for a big man.

Wait unit the “Wall” comes tumbling down on Thorn’s head, that is if Rod is still here, come draft pick day. We probably will end up getting the second pick and then somehow draft another “Williams” type player.

If we are lucky enough to win the top pick taking Wall is a no brainer. We suddenly would have one of the best backcourts in the league (Wall could play as either a PG or SG) and he becomes a big piece in the free agent recruitment. A young team of Brook, CDR, John Wall, Courtney lee and Devin is very enticing to a guy like Chris Bosh.

We need big men. Unless we trade Devin, I’d go after Monroe or Favors. I think Monroe is going to be a star because he’s so versatile.

LOL Andres… you think Davis is overrated while thinking Monroe is not. If there’s someone overrated in this coming draft, it’s Monroe. You can tell just by watching if somebody is legit or not. He looks soft and his skills… i dont like. At least he’s better than Cousins though.

If we draft Wall, we’ll either trade him or Harris on draft day. I don’t see these two playing on the same team together. Imagine D. Rose and Devin Harris on the same team. I thought I was watching mirror images of the same player down the stretch of the Chicago game.

Everybody assumes we are going to draft Wall. What happens if we don’t. Everybody is assuming that we are going to get a great FA. What happens if this does not pan out. The Nets management team are dreamers, dreaming their lives away. Bring in a realist, who lives in the real world, not in Nets fantasyland, where the future is always wonderful, but the present always stinks.

Mike it’s the glass half empty/ glass half full mentality. Today’s reality doesn’t have to all ways be. Even if it’s not Wall, it’ll be a top pick. And if the Nets have the money and cap space they should be able to get a good free agent. Maybe not Lebron or DWade but they can go after Joe Johnson , Bosh or Amare. So if they don’t it’ll be more of the same. But since I see the glass half full. I think it will work out for the best. But being a realist, if I thought things were going to stay like this, I’d find something better to do with my time..

Great news fellow Nets fans. Minnesota’s Rodney Williams might be available for us to draft next summer. Another “wing” type player plus another Williams. How lucky can one team and it’s fans get!

If we draft wall then Harris would probably be traded. I mean the guy doesn’t really lead us to a lot of victories. If Rose was our pg we would have more then 2 wins
by ben on Dec 10, 2009 1:00 PM EST reply actions
We have to draft Wall. He’s a sure thing. That would be like passing on MJ because you already have Drexler like Portland did. We’ll find a way to make it work with Wall and Devin and if it doesn’t then trade Devin. Young super fast point guard with a reasonable contract, should be a piece of cake to move anytime.
But if we wanna draft Wall we better win more games. The team with the worst record and largest chance to win the lottery NEVER wins it. I think this is an established fact by now and any abberations are just that, exceptions to the rule. We wanna be the 2nd worst-5th worst team

Lets be real, it would be very unNets like to finish last and actually win the ping pong lottery. Whatever we should have 1-4 and we need to take best player available regardless of position (with exception of true center but it does not look like that will be an issue as there does not appear to be a lottery true center). Get the best players you can and figure it out from there.
Wall looks fast and real athletic
Monroe looks soft.
Haven’t seen Favors from GA Tech. Can he be a legit NBA 4?
Biggest question who will be making the pick??

If we don’t get the #1 pick, I hope Thorn doesn’t hesitate to package our pick and Devin Harris for this kid. he is a flat out BEAST

I would love to see Wall and Harris in the back court. That combo, along with our young supporting core can entice someone like Bosh;
PG Wall/Dooling
SG Harris/Lee
SF CDR/Hayes/Twill
PF Bosh/Boone
C Lopez/Williams/Draft pick

We need to get this kid. Hes a studddd. Even if we dont end up with the #1 pick i would still package our pick and dallas` pick ALONG with Harris. Harris is not a franchise type player. Wall is. Imagine, the Nets draft Wall we play in Newark for two seasons and then by the time we move to Brooklyn we have a franchise player, that we (the nets) can call our own. Also I think Wall is a great piece to help lure a free agent (cough bosh cough), to go along with the rest of our young core.If we dont get this guy I will be upset! haha

Wall has the additional advantage of being a big National/TV draw.
However, beyond Wall, it is way too soon to make 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th picks.
Nets will need to follow best 5 prospects since either a 20 or 25% chance to get 1st pick.
If Nets can’t get Bosh, I really would like the cheaper David Lee, since he could fill backup Center at same time.

@ netsnuts
“Haven’t seen Favors from GA Tech. Can he be a legit NBA 4?”
Chad Ford wrote this about Favors last week:
“Favors isn’t having quite as strong of a season as Wall, but he’s got two things going for him. Size and athleticism come at a premium in the NBA, and Favors has both. He has the chance to be a dominant inside presence — a cross between Amare Stoudemire and Dwight Howard. However, Favors isn’t there yet. His early numbers at Georgia Tech (13.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks in 24 minutes per game) are very good for a freshman but not quite dominant. If he really gets it going in the second half of the season, he’ll be a legit No. 1 pick.”
