TWitterGate: Day 2

Yes, he loves his teammates and loves being in New Jersey, too, but Terrence Williams tells reporters he has no regrets about what he wrote Monday on Twitter. "How would it be a regret?" T-Will said of his tweet about other teammates, other places. "I don't make the decision where I go. It's not a regret at all." Now, Rod Thorn says the team may discipline Williams, who Thorn says has had a loss of confidence "for the first time in his life."

Perhaps i’m just overreacting, but I would trade him for a second round pick in a second.

I wonder if any team would be stupid enough to give up a second round pick…

@TWIlliam. Dude calm down. Don’t overreact. Did you see CDR last year. He didn’t play well as a rookie. Terrence has shown flashes, he just needs to get some confidence and used to the nba style.

by ben on Dec 8, 2009 3:41 PM EST reply actions

lets bench this kid. he shows no respect to his teammates, no respect to this franchise, and no repsect to the game. how is the WORST player on the team going to make such absurd comments, is he crzy????

ben, It’s hardly even about his game anymore.

He can call out his teammates, he can call out his coaches, but I. Will. Be. Damned. -if he’s going to call the fans out and call us “fake fans.”. Who does he think he is?

Terrence Williams is basically Gerald Green.

Stupid-punk T-Will.

Sorry, Jennings went at # 10 spot. My bad.

by einstein on Dec 8, 2009 3:57 PM EST reply actions

TWill should realize he is fortunate to be playing on a bad team and getting lots of PT. However, he needs to realize that if continues to have a bad attitude, he doesn’t deserve any PT.

LFrank says he had a high basketball IQ. Frank never said that about SWat, so there must be some truth to it.

I don’t and won’t use Twitter, but the NBA ought to do something before this gets out of out.

TWill Does have more talent than the others mentioned. However, jump shooting is at the bottom of this list.

DWade realized his strengths in his first year and did just fine. Maybe TWill should watch tapes of the early DWade and learn from them.

Has anyone considered that CDR may not care that he is giving out bad advice. Afterall, TWill would only be take away minutes from CDR. I was expecting TWill to be the starting SF by the end of the year.

Rudy Fernandez needs surgery, Oden is done for the year and the Blazers need help fast.

Could we could convince them that, TWill, Jarvis Hayes, Josh Boone and our Dallas draft pick was worth injured Batum, injured Outlaw and Bayless, who wants to be traded?

by Dirt on Dec 8, 2009 4:21 PM EST reply actions

@ Dirt. We wouldn’t do that trade since we then would have 4 point guards. Secondly why would we take on 2 injured players. Also the blazers if anything will trade Bayless for a big man. We aren’t trading Terrence has a lot of potential since he can play 3 positions and a good defender.

by ben on Dec 8, 2009 4:24 PM EST reply actions

A talented guy with limitations that he does not appear to understand or except and that have finally caught up to him at the NBA level (poor shooting and the fact that everyone in the NBA is athletic – not just him). Must be hard discovering that at 23 he has limited upside unless he is prepared to really WORK HARD to improve if he wants big minutes in any NBA rotation.

I don’t care to much that TWILL is making his life more difficult by not be disciplined in his communications to the world. I do care that he risks making it harder for the NETS to attract free agents. We need to be the big upside happy exiting young athletic team you want to join. Not the complaining egotistic losers you should avoid.

by Jay on Dec 8, 2009 4:25 PM EST reply actions

He is young and just teething like a baby.
The guy is a complete player whom can handle the rock, play defense, rebound and pass the ball. Now his shooting is were he needs to imporve and over time that will come.

Will be a asset next year as the thrid option at three positions when needed @ 1/2/3
So when we are ten deep next year and healthy. T.Williams can come in and play the main scoring option of the other team and shut him down to victory.

This is talent and luxury for a team.

Somebody has to come down hard on this clown, for his own good. I was a big T-Will supporter, but the last couple of weeks he has regressed at an alarming rate. Now off the court he is causing problems. He acts like he is doing everybody a big favor, by just showing up. The NBA does not need players like T-Will. They are poison. Try to move him if possible. Don’t make the same mistake they made with Sean Williams.

by Mike on Dec 8, 2009 4:51 PM EST reply actions

IF the nets didnt see major potential in this kid they wouldnt be giving him all this attention and extra help. look at boone and swat.

Hey, we all knew this guy was a head case and that he couldn’t shoot when we drafted him. He is not comparable to Swat because he has some real basketball skills, albeit with limitations, to go with his athleticism. So please quit overreating to his nit-twits and let the guy develop. He can fill a much-needed role as an energy guy and defensive presence off the bench, and it makes no sense to give him away now.

The Knicks have finally gotten smart and tough with T-Wills best buddy. It seems to have improved team play. Nate Robinson may be in for a rude awakening when he becomes an unrestricted FA next year. Nobody will pay him the money he thinks he going to get paid. Maybe he will have to go overseas for a few years. Nate, please take your buddy T-Will with you.

Just last year this guy was sitting where WE are right now. 2 years ago it was CDR. So lets not jump to any conclusions. He hasnt realized the difference yet. Yeah he called us Fake Fans but I call some people here that and some people here call me that. So lets relax. Yeah he is an NBA player, but when it comes to posting stuff online he isnt any different then we are. Him, CDR and a lot of PRO athletes will learn to stop using these DISTRACTIONS some will learn the hard way.

NI is right: three Williamses this decade and zero common sense among them. Somehow I don’t think Tyler Hansborough is tweeting like this. For a guy who went through all 4 years of college TWill’s tweets are pretty dumb. I would love to hear the arguments he makes to justify getting PT: “Hey, I shoot as well as Rafer and better than Boone” maybe? Never a big fan of this guy although people like Dave D were saying back in pre(tend)season that he had KMart-like intensity and had to be given as much PT as possible (funny to look back on that now) and those reports got my hopes up. Instead of running steps he should be shooting 100 3s a day.

I predict everything will be fine with TWill now that his problem has come out into the open.

Fortunately, Kiki is the new coach. He will set TWill straight.

These sort of issues couldn’t be dealt with by LFrank – just look at the insecurity Frank had with Yi’s own trainer and not allowing Kiki to teach some of the young players.

The young players including SWat will be able to relate better to Kiki. Thorn will back up Kiki.

With Frank, if he had punished players who deserved it, then everyone would be talking about it, which would have ended up costing Frank his job even sooner. They would say the players are tuning out.

Twitter is EVIL for Athletes and its about time action is taken. As you can see, I can’t Twitter, because I don’t write short stupid remarks, which is what Twitter encourages. That is what the Texting age of Cell phones has done to the younger generation.

Regarding TWill’s remark about him being a jump shooter;
How can he say that when he never took NBA 3s in college and he wasn’t a very good scorer anyway. Everyone knows he wasn’t drafted for his jump shooting.

If the Team would only put together a Video of all of TWill’s good and bad offensive shots/moves, it should be really easy to convince him what he needs to do to help the Nets.

TWill could only score 10-12 good pts. a game, but as long as he played defense and rebounds, he’ll deserve up to 30 min. a game.

BTW, Dave D. has a new story above, with remarks from Thorn himself about possible discipline.

by jerry25 on Dec 8, 2009 7:12 PM EST reply actions

I suggest the Nets in the future, when they’re gonna draft a player, please find a guy who can help the Nets immediate, but not with the most prospect and talents.

The Nets always pick the players with talents, but they are always the scrubs, because the Nets don’t know how to develop the youngsters.

by jarkid on Dec 8, 2009 7:13 PM EST reply actions

We probably could’ve stayed in most games if he only made HALF of his shots!

by rs on Dec 8, 2009 7:16 PM EST reply actions

@ rightclue – That was Utah. Your argument holds no validity as they actually have a real coach.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 8, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

so is the potential discipline because of what he said, or because of when he tweeted?

also Twill was asked if he had regrets. I think the question meant if he regretted the tweet, but Twill addressed whether or not he regretted being drafted by the Nets.

Not sure what kind of mindset he has, but I hope he can shut all this stuff out and focus on getting better, and like Thorn said, not over-thinking things on the court. Practice is when you think about things. at game-time you just play. I actually think taking a break from Twitter would do him good. It’s hard to be in the moment when you think about everything in terms of how you’re going to tweet about it later.

TWeet will be a monster by next year.

by J Tallent on Dec 8, 2009 7:41 PM EST reply actions

by JohnY on Dec 8, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply actions

@ Jerry25 – if as you say Chris Douglas-Roberts is giving Terrence Williams bad advice then one of the veteran players on the team (preferably Keyon Dooling) needs to take him aside and tell him to stop because otherwise we should trade HIM for Brandon Jennings or Anderson Varejao.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 8, 2009 8:12 PM EST reply actions

The Nets didn’t deserve to win the way they played the fourth quarter. However, this win should do wonders to get the players on track.

At least TWill won’t be able to say team couldn’t win without him. However, with TWill playing the way he should, it would have been an easy victory.

Nets just don’t have enough good bodies to go 48 minutes.
Normally, someone has to get hot, if not 2 players.
Nets won this game without any good performance except maybe CDR.

Only reason for Nets win was that Chicago was bad except Rose in the 2nd half.

Why do you say that CDR influenced Terrence’s Twitter comments? As others have said, there’s a world of difference in what CDR posted vs. TWill. Interestingly enough, many key Nets players concurred with CDR’s assessment of the team being “soft” and have said as much. Even Coach Kiki inferred this. So where is your information from?

I hope TWill has learned a lesson (the hard way) and redoubles his efforts to play better. GO NETS!! Good win tonite.

I don’t care what T-Will is doing on the court. If he’s calling out fans off the court, I don’t want him around this team. That kind of attitude will not breed a winning atmosphere.

Thankfully, these days his game on the court blows just as much as his attitude off the court. It works out very well for us.

ND: that comment is pretty harsh. First of all: saying that he has no brain is a bit odd. The guy is young, and made a dumb mistake. Plenty of young players make dumb mistakes. And saying that he doesn’t have any talent…. sigh… either you’re frustrated or you just don’t know any better. And I’m not trying to insult you, I’m not like that. But come on man, you’re insulting yourself with that post. You and I both know that Williams is talented. You don’t get drafted that high in the NBA if he wasn’t talented. The guy is athletic, can rebound, put the ball on the floor, dude.

by Gerard Himself on Dec 9, 2009 12:57 AM EST reply actions

The kid is a rookie. Cut him some slack. This has to be the most frusturating season any of these guys have ever had in their entire lives. And in fairness he has not had a defined role on this team. Sometimes he is a PG, other times he is a PF. Sometimes wing.

He is not a great shooter. He can impact the game in other ways. Before you call him a bust and demand him to be dealt lets see how the next month goes.

I can’t recall very many CDR fans last March….and I think some referred to him as a bust. Now he is looking likely to win Most Improved.

This season was always about development. So give the kid a chance to develop and see what happens.

by Ryan243 on Dec 9, 2009 1:02 AM EST reply actions

by Andrés on Dec 9, 2009 5:08 AM EST reply actions

I know you guys are right. It’s just frustrating that this guy gets so much PT over most other rookies, he’s in a situation where he could have really made a difference and then he proceeds to be ungrateful and tweet bullcrap. I didn’t mean the talent part but jury’s still out on the brain part. If you read Dave D’s article, there is a quote from Rafer that’s very telling – about how TWill was blowing his matchups against Harrington. Also, I dont know someone’s mentality when they go for a second year guy as their mentor when so many veterans are in the locker room. Unless something changes dramatically, it seems this draft is going to remind us of the Wright-Granger draft, especially when lower picks like Taj Gibson (#26 pick) put on a great show like yesterday.

by ND on Dec 9, 2009 7:35 AM EST reply actions

Have you guys seen CDR’s tweets?

“Hahaha. They don’t know this is motivation for me.LOVE it.Gotta hate me.Young, rich, very attractive w/a bunch of swagger.”

“I’m not even going to block y’all. Lames wake up & don’t know how they’re going to eat everyday, but they send hate tweets to me. Hahahahaha”

and before that he retweeted a couple of negative tweets about him. I hate how classless they are, and how they glorify being hated because they think they’re better than everyone else because they’re perfection in human form. I just hate the attitude and the immaturity.

by muwu on Dec 9, 2009 8:31 AM EST reply actions

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 9, 2009 9:41 AM EST reply actions

I’m not concerned with him developing his game. He has the talent and dedication to do something talent-wise. He seems to have no problem working out or wanting to practice. That’s not why people are upset.

My biggest concern is him learning to become a gracious teammate and professional. Spending time on the court will not remedy that issue. That can come with spending a year or two on the bench.

by Dirt on Dec 9, 2009 9:57 AM EST reply actions

…Accordingly, we should trade him for Joey Dorsey.

by Dirt on Dec 9, 2009 10:16 AM EST reply actions

Do you think we could get anything for T-Will?

I would trade him for Jordan Hill. Then T-Will could keep his buddy Nate company, at the end of the Knicks bench.

I wonder if management actually put out feelers to other teams, in this situation. I know I would.

by Mike on Dec 9, 2009 10:26 AM EST reply actions

I keep coming back to the thought of Terrence Williams and Josh Boone to Portland for Nico Batum and Jarred Bayless. Though, I know they really like Batum. Perhaps we could throw in our Dallas pick.

However, to give Bayless the playing time he needs to grow it seems this trade would have to be accompanied by a Rafer Alston trade. Alston to LA for Morrison?

Too many variables, I know.

by Dirt on Dec 9, 2009 11:24 AM EST reply actions

…I can’t put enough thought into dreaming of getting this dude off this team.

by Dirt on Dec 9, 2009 11:27 AM EST reply actions

Alston for Morrison? Morrison is just a paper weight… i think there will be at least one contender whose PG will get hurt before the playoffs… at least that’s what you can hope for to get the best value from trading him. Also, no GMs trade their picks so quickly – it proves that they picked wrong. Not likely in Kiki’s contract year. There’s no way he will trade Yi, CLee or TWill – they are the choices he made in the last year.

by ND on Dec 9, 2009 11:43 AM EST reply actions

Yeah Dirt; The more I read about his antics the more he becomes “Terror” Williams. I hate these kind of players. The Nets will probably baby him for the next three years, until they had enough. I would get rid of him in three weeks. Take the big short term loss now, don’t spread it over three years.

by Mike on Dec 9, 2009 11:45 AM EST reply actions

Hey Mr. Big, what’s up with you leaving Carrie at the alter? That was messed up man.

I think Dirt is referring to “Sex in the City”. A show I have never watched, but some how know everything about.

Ha! I’ve only seen the movie. I’m not proud. I thought it would be a funny contrast to the Godfather reference.

Hopefully T-Will gets his head screwed on right, and becomes an asset. I’m not betting on that happening, but what the heck. We are Nets fans after all, and by being Nets fans, we deserve what we get.

Lets go T-Will. Lets go Nets.

Anybody going to the game tonight? If so and you feel the same as I do, you should make signs that say “Fake Fan”.

Poor poor pitiful me
Poor poor pitiful me
All these fake fans won’t let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me

Hey Dirt; That was a really funny reply to JT. To bad it had to be cut. Me and my co-workers were LOAO.

“Dirt says: Next year Courtney Lee will be backing up Chris Douglas-Roberts at the 2 and Rudy Gay will be starting next to him at SF. We won’t even remember who Terrence Williams is.”

Next year Courtney Lee will be starting alongside Joe Johnson and Chris Douglas-Roberts will be in Cleveland backing up Mo Williams.
