Yi's Injuries Delaying Opportunity

This should be Yi Jianlian's time. The GM who traded for him is now his coach. The Team China coach who gave him his first chance is now his assistant coach. His personal trainer is no longer persona non grata at the PNY Center. The problem is that he's down again, recovering from a badly mangled lip. Al Iannazzone looks at Yi's potential under the new regime and his injuries...each sustained when playing hard.

Poor Yi??? He has been handed the keys to the car in both Milwaukee and NJ. What more can we do? We cleared out every power forward option. We played him insane minutes given his lack of productivity. We trade Anderson who rightfully took his starting job. Even when healthy what has he done to deserve this kind of focus? We need to move forward and I think with Kiki in this new role, he will see that Yi is not what we need. There is hope he will want a tough inside presence. If not, he is selling our team short. He would be much better off coming in as part of the second unit where he can play against less talented forward.

so much time is WASTING. very frustrating having Yi out so long. If he’d been healthy all this time he’d be in great shape for Kiki to take over. Now we’re weeks away from him even seeing the court, and more weeks away from getting into b-ball shape. you wonder how far along he’ll get before he’s hurt again.

By this time next month, Kiki will find out 1st hand that Yi’s future is as a sub.

The Nets have a top draft pick and hopefully 2 FA in their future. At least one should be a Star level and the 2 others should have potential to be starters.

Does anyone not suspect that at least one of those three future players will be at PF, clearly the Nets weakest position?

IMO, Yi will be playing the remainder of the season just to get experience so that he can be the best possible sub.

Why people still cry for Anderson and want to make it seem as if we traded him away just because he could take minutes away from Yi is beyond me.

First off, Nets traded Anderson because they wanted to get Lee. That’s it. They wanted to get a young player in that deal, someone they could sell as a building block, so they could say it wasnt a salary dump (which it obviously was). Yes, Yi made Anderson more expendable, and I understand that, but dont be ridiculous, they didnt trade Ryan away because they NEEDED to get Lee so the spin could go on and they could make excuses for making this lopsided trade.

Entering last night’s game, Anderson was averaging 6.2 pts (on .379 shooting) and 2.6 rbs in the previous 5 games. SVG even benched him the previous game, against the Warriors. He’s a young player I’d love we would have kept, but I find it simply hilarious that people bash Yi and think Anderson would be the long term answer at the 4. People say we need a tough inside presence, and that Yi is a weak PF, well I’ve news for all you the Ryan lovers: Anderson isnt a tough presence in the paint, he is WEAK, period.

You the Yi haters should wonder why did the C’s want him when we tried to make a S&T move for Davis. I guess a guy like Danny Ainge, who knows how to build a title contender, knows better than you, sorry!

Whether you guys like it or not, Yi is big part of our future. This kid is talented. But yeah, I agree he probably wont be a starter next year, as I hope we land a stud PF w/ our top 3 pick.

You are part right about Ryan Anderson for C.Lee trade. Remebr we also got rid of V.Carter and his salary cap issue.
So this was a very good trade for us the Brooklyn Nets.

The point Nets fans make is that between RA and Yi, it would have been better to keep RA since he is much younger (more upside) and has better hands as well as more determination/ court savvy.
However, not sure if Orlando would have taken Yi or if Yormark would have even allowed his marketing boy to leave the Nets.

Regarding Boston wanting Yi – it is because they didn’t value CryBaby very highly, all things considered. Baby may have a short NBA career ahead of him, although he certainly would help the Nets right now, as would about 5 other PFs with reasonable contracts.

One way or another there will be a Physical PF or two on the Nets in the next 1 – 9 months. Yi might be a 20 mpg backup depending on how much improvement he shows.

Ideal situation is a PF/backup C and a pure PF and maybe a big SF who can fill in at PF (The King of Brooklyn would do – LOL).

@Jerry25 Says:

I said this all year round Jerry.
Yi is our second unit PF.
Draft needs should be Starting PF Back-up C Rotation SF.
Start watching these college players and you tell me if they don’t fit our needs in next years draft.

W.JOHNSON/SYRACUSE SF
G.MONROE/GEORGETWON PF
D.FAVORS/GEORGIA TECH PF
C.ALDRICH/KANSAS C PF

GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS!

I think Yi is one of those ancient mystical Chinese characters. We never really see him for long, then he’s gone.
Ghost Rider type thing going on.

@Dziedzic
What about all we hear about FA’s?

Except for Boozer (who would take most of Yi’s minutes), there might not be another Class A or B FA wanting to come to present team.

Something must get done between now a trade deadline, and that would make rest of year and summer decisions easier.

We have to think like Mark Cuban now.

Proky will be asking, what will it take to get Lebron to sign with Nets? The answer he will get is Nets will need to be a much better team first.
