TWill Tweeting Unhappiness

Terrence Williams stopped tweeting when the Nets were losing. He's making up for lost time. In a series of tweets Monday, the rookie wonders what it would have been like if he'd been drafted by Milwaukee or Charlotte, professes to love practice "because NOW practice is my games...Welp that's life" but of course, adds "I thank GOD everyday for where I'am and I love it." Those who don't understand? "Fake fans".

terrence williams doesnt do anything for the team anyways, he shoots hurried shots, makes soft, lazy passes, cant play defense. if he wants to switch teams ill happily take brandon jennings over him.

This guy shouldn’t be talking. With the way he’s been playing lately he doesn’t belong on an nba court at all. Furthermore, I don’t like the fact that he’s best buds with Nate Robinson.

Also, I think its time we deal our Dallas 1st rounder. The knicks can surely use it. How about Dallas 1st rounder and maybe a smaller piece for Wilson Chandler.

This is an instance where twitter hurts a player. He gets benched and puts his emotions out there for all to see. A chip on his shoulder isn’t all bad. He can work on his game like CDR did.

by supreme on Dec 7, 2009 6:22 PM EST reply actions

The only thing you are guilty of is being human. No worries! You will get that Mojo back! :-)

by Suzy on Dec 7, 2009 6:29 PM EST reply actions

The league should institute a policy: every player with a twitter account should be required to check with his agent before tweeting.

CDR is offering advice to jealous women today. It’s his take on one of the pressing issues of the day: Tiger Woods’ love life. Better than TWill’s offerings, I guess. One reason I like Lee is that he had to ask what twitter was last May.

by Net Income on Dec 7, 2009 6:32 PM EST reply actions

Ok, one more from me……many of us have had ‘twitter moments’. I came home toasted the other night and lord only knows what I twittered….. :P

by Suzy on Dec 7, 2009 6:37 PM EST reply actions

Maybe someone who has a twitter account should tell T-Will to stop shooting those horrible jump shots, and drive to the basket instead. He needs to have better shot selection, and learns to play better with his athleticism.

by LetsGoNets on Dec 7, 2009 6:47 PM EST reply actions

Fake fan? Give me a break. This dudes a fake ball player. Make a jump shot. You’re getting paid millions of dollars.

I was off him the instance he said “I can’t guarantee that I won’t be a bust”. & any college student who needs 300 pairs of kicks & has describes himself as a materialistic person comes across to me as a bitch. What 6’6 Swingman shoots floaters from 5ft out?. Nevermind him, I wanted Henderson more anyway.

by MP3 on Dec 7, 2009 6:51 PM EST reply actions

you guys need to stop crying. TWill is a player..has good upside. Its normal for any player struggling in a situation to think WHAT IF..we all do that from time to time. He’s no different. He is still thankful to be in the NBA as he should be. He would of sat behind Wallace on the Bobcats and would of probably played more if he were on Milwaukee but so what..he’s here. The only thing im worried about is him becoming kind of immature like Nate Robinson who is his buddy but for now i dont think he’s done anything wrong

@sean
Hasnt done anything worng??? i can understand if hes playing hard, hustling, andat least semi good decisons. His decision making and shot selection is absolutely horendous, he MUST start attacking the basket and making free throws. Otherwise, he’s as big a liabilty as josh boone

by the 13yearold diehard nets fan on Dec 7, 2009 7:14 PM EST reply actions

I’d be happy with T-Will and Josh Boone to CHA for Derrick Brown and Gerald Henderson.

by Dirt on Dec 7, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

Another prime example of why twitter should be screened for these young athletes. The immaturity is unbelievable, and I like T Will and also feel he has tremendous upside. But as a fan, this does piss me off.

What if??? are you kidding me man? Take your million dollar contract and keep your mouth shut er… tweeting. Play the game, improve, and before you know it this team will be better because of it because your 7 straight missed shot attempts will begin to fade away.

by NetBren on Dec 7, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

Perhaps CDR should have a conversation with Terrence. Tell him, if u wanna talk, u HAVE to give the effort to improve your game. If im Kiki right now im benching this kid until he proves he can IMprove. Otherwise, hes looking wors than boone right now.

by the 13yearold diehard nets fan on Dec 7, 2009 7:19 PM EST reply actions

If I got drafted to a team and all this happened, I’d be daydreaming too… In his first month as a pro:

played 3 different positions in a system that made absolutely no sense.
forced to be one of the top 3 scoring options, even though everyone knows he was never an emphatic scorer.
half the team injured.
“coach” fired.
GM with no coaching experience takes over and implements a system of microball that makes even less sense than the first system.
two shoot first point guards.
team with the lowest assists per game.

All this as a rookie. MJ couldn’t have made sense of this situation. We’re a month into the KID’S career and he’s having a hard time adjusting.

by JB on Dec 7, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

Not to mention Josh Boone and Sean Williams are our longest tenured players. This team has horrible chemistry, it’s gonna rub off on the players. Give it time!

Way to endear yourselves to Nets fans…

I do have a problem with what he said. I can’t believe he would say that in a public forum. And frankly, I’m a little offended he would call fans like me “fake”.

Thanks TWill, you can go now…

by NJMetsHero on Dec 7, 2009 8:10 PM EST reply actions

He can feel anyway he wants but to write this is immature and also is very disrespectful to the fans and to be quite frank to his teammates and coaches. These are times of great adversity and uncertainty for the franchise and the team. You don’t abandon the team in times like these if you want to considered a leader.

by Net Income on Dec 7, 2009 8:13 PM EST reply actions

I have no problem with CDR twittering because he is focused on the court and he loves the game. I question Twills focus because he seems more into making money and he seems to be playing basketball more for the glory. I even remember him posting his nba 2k9 stats saying he was going to be rookie of the year. Like who cares. His play is atrocious, I have not seen his play making passing rather just a lot of turnovers and bad shots and he just keeps chucking them. He learned well from Rafer Alston

by matt t on Dec 7, 2009 8:16 PM EST reply actions

if you are playing well you can get away with some of the things you say but Twill right now has no right to talk about anything especially us fans, #1 hes a rookie and #2 hes playing like the worst player in the nba. he should be wonderin how he wasn’t a second round pick or undrafted let alone being pick #9 or #11.
It seems like he is satisfied with his play and part of the reason is the team may be 1-19 but still this guy for whatever reason thinks hes a superstar. if you asked him i bet he would say hes playing well. hes getting worse every game and why was he dancing at the end of their first victory it was 1 win. o yea he cant act like hes been there be. He is a low class player imo until he shows otherwise

i said it past summer and i’ll say it again: Terence Williams is borderline uncoachable. i don’t question his god-given talents, but he’s too much of a free-willed individual, he doesn’t care at all what anyone else thinks (teammates & coach), he follows his own game plan. he does what he wants. i don’t think he’s immature or selfish, he just marches to the beat of his own drummer, and he’s borderline uncoachable.

Should have taken Earl Clark. Why does Thorn always draft knuckleheads named Williams. Marcus Sean Terrance. He is 1-7 from the field and still chucking, does he really consider himself a shooter? The fact that he can’t make freethrows proves he has no shooting touch. At his age, he will not get much better. He should be a tightend for the Giants. Proky needs to kick Thorn to the curb next for all these idiotic picks.

by Tom F on Dec 7, 2009 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Here’s another troubling quote from TWill. This came from Dave D’s article:

“It’s worrying about what will happen if I do miss two or three shots,” he said. “My senior year was different because I got to make mistakes that I am making now, and I’d just continue to play. I’m a rookie, so there’s nothing I can really do about it but not miss shots. But if my game is predicated on making or missing shots, I’m going to have a tough year.”

I thought this guy was supposed to have a high Bball IQ. Doesn’t he realize we need him to play D, and bring energy, and make passes and Rebound. I’m really scratching my head with this guy..

by pawley on Dec 7, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

Twill, Twill shut your big mouth. Stop being defensive ‘cause you know it. You’re the reason the Nets had this losing streak. The Nets got cursed drafting you. Blair was so available but for some reason the Nets got you.

Him saying that he is already happy to be in the NBA bothers me a bit because it might mean that he is happy about where he is so might not be inspired to become better. I know T-Will is reading this so I want him to prove everyone wrong about what people are saying right now. I read the comments from last year’s draft and a lot of people were saying that Brook Lopez was such a bad pick, but then he proved everyone wrong. I hope that Terrence Williams isn’t satisfied with this and that he will work hard to become better and prove all you haters wrong.

i meant he hasnt done anything wrong by his statements..I mean maybe he should of just kept it to himself but ppl think out loud on twitter and he’s a person first, professional 2nd. but on the court there are some things he can do better tho. he should be more agressive and get to the rim instead of shooting contested jumpshots. My response was to the ones who said TWill sucks..he is a top 10 rookie and as shown that he can play but in spurts..has to learn to play smart for the whole game

AND Kiki needs to understand that we are not going to make the playoffs. He needs to give Twill the 25+ min a night so he can find his confidence out there. The longer TWill has to sit around doubting his game the the more damaged his confidence gets. If this guy is allowed to blossom on another team and we miss his potential I’m gonna be pissed.

by molskin on Dec 8, 2009 12:45 AM EST reply actions

@molksin

TWill shouldn’t have the time to be sitting around doubting his game. He should be in the gym working on his jump shot instead of posting dumb comments on twitter. Right now the guy is a bum in my eyes. Talking about what if I was drafted by this team or what if I was drafted by that team. Guy doesn’t seem like he wants to be here. You didn’t see CDR bitching and moaning about a lack of playing time. He took his licks and look at where he is now! He’s a true professional. TWill, right now, is just a head case with talent. Until he learns how to grow up and be a professional this will not change.

by Nets in 2010 on Dec 8, 2009 1:04 AM EST reply actions

This and the losing will hopefully force a leader to step up. My guess is that is CDR. But to think that these guys are not frustrated is impossible. Hopefully the core bonds and these guys realize that the future is much brighter than it seems now.

And if I were an agent – I would ban my players from using twitter or make every twitter post be run past someone in my staff first. How many guys in the NFL this year have gotten suspended or fined for something dumb they posted. The constant interaction/scrutiny that the internet affords is not necessarily a good thing.

by Ryan243 on Dec 8, 2009 1:22 AM EST reply actions

@ Nets in 2010

-I agree his twitter comments were immature.
-He is a rookie and I am sure the NBA rookie training isn’t as thorough as it could be in regards to professionalism using twitter etc. People mature at different ages and I am sure he is learning a valuable lesson right now with this twitter situation.
-Wasn’t CDR complaining publicly about the Nets being soft. Though his statement was true and wasn’t egregious – it was unprofessional. So I won’t make him the shining beacon of professionalism.

by molskin on Dec 8, 2009 2:41 AM EST reply actions

Hopefully this kid matures…BIG TIME. He is 22 so maybe this whole situation will make him a better person. Sometimes Twill is too honest. You can’t tell the whole world everything your feeling. He seems to worry too much about his stats then the wins/losses. I thought this guy was a pass first kind of guy, but it doesn’t seem that way to me. I am a loyal fan and it kind of hurts when a guy want’s to talk about what if because we are the worst team in the league. Obviously he isn’t getting Kiki’s message that this is a learning process. Next year we will have a much better team so shut up and play hard.

TWill will be fine.

The ONLY guy I think we could regret passing on is Clark… he’s not getting PT in Phoenix ‘cause they’re a winning team that has some vets like Grant Hill. Anyways, I like TWill, he’s only a rookie, lets give him some time.

by Andrés on Dec 8, 2009 5:14 AM EST reply actions

I didn’t hear anyone complaining when TWILL got 20 and 10.
Yes Twill needs to drive to the basket
He’s being left open when another player is getting double teamed.
TWill needs to keep moving especially when his man goes to double team.Twill needs to play off of Brook better.
Most important Twill needs to learn to play without the ball in his hand OR be used as the back up PG
Its not fair to blame this kid when he’s played 4 positions for the team, and played too many minutes this early in the season.
KiKi drafted twill so you know KiKi will put him in a position to succeed.
Although the Nets have too many wing players
Some will be traded closer to the deadline

I’m not aware of any team member ever admitting he reads NetsDaily. If they do, it would be no surprise if the young players let it affect their game – epecially someone like a sensitive Josh Boone or a soft Yi Jianlian.

Maybe TWill will be the first to admit it, since he doesn’t think first.

Coach Frank used to say that TWill has a high basketball IQ and was taking in everything they asked of him.
Frank never said that about SWat, so apparently Frank thinks that TWill IS coachable.

I have seen plenty of great passes from TWill and enough good play inside to know that he has the ability.
Maybe the Nets staff should make a tape of all his good plays to demonstrate what they expect from him.

Does TWill know that even DWade hardly took 3 pointers in his first year? TWill should follow the early DWade model.

Kiki should set some requirement that he has to make at least 2 dunks or tap-ins and make at least two clean shots in the paint each game, or he gets reduced PT in the next game.

A.) He responds to fans by telling him you are “fake fans” and “fake coaches”. Is he out of his mind? The fans technically pay this fool’s salary

B.) He can’t take constructive criticism. The fans are correct in telling him to attack the rim, heck even Marv Albert is losing patience with him. Every time he touches the ball he takes an ill-times out of his range jumper. That’s not your game buddy

C.) He has yet to impact a single game. Either play good defence, or do something. He comes in wearing a headband as if he is going to break sweat, but does nothing.

D.) He has the talent, the altheticism, but his career will be very short lived in 3 years flaming out to Europe if he continues with those nasty looking jumpers

L.Frank made a horrible mistake sitting C.D-Roberts all year last season.
He was frustrated and kept quiet and came back this year hungry and ready.
Well maybe T.Williams can learn from C.D-Roberts a thing or two.
It is my opinion T.Williams will be a asset for the team @1-2 or 3 spot once he grows up. A little improvement in his game decisions would also help his cause.
he seems like a nice guy whom only believes in himself right now.

Fake fans. That pisses me off so much.

The fans who care enough to even know who he IS are the fans still showing up and tuning in when the team he plays for [and underachieves] is 1-19.

Boo this man!

other rookies aren’t getting any PT…since t-will is in a bad team he’ll get all the PT he wants but he ain’t showing anything…dejuan blair gets only 15mins/game but makes every second count.

by jirohkanzaki on Dec 8, 2009 12:45 PM EST reply actions

Dejuan Blair is like the [somehow] black love child of Brett Favre, Chuck Norris and Tim Tebow.

by Dirt on Dec 8, 2009 12:48 PM EST reply actions

When I see Twill taking a shot, I feel like he is forcing them. He wants his shots to hit but he looks so uncomfortable taking them. Kiki is going to have to work with him.

by SIC on Dec 8, 2009 12:48 PM EST reply actions

He puts a little sparkle and glitter on his cute little floaters in the paint too.

by Dirt on Dec 8, 2009 12:56 PM EST reply actions

We should start calling him Diana Taurasi until he plays with some force.

by Dirt on Dec 8, 2009 12:57 PM EST reply actions

if t-will has his head on right, he’ll hang 20pts/10rebs/5asts/2stls/1blk/1TO on 50% shooting on the bulls plus shutdown his defensive assignment to shut all the “fake fans” up instead of saying we’re “fake fans” on twitter. Heck, 10 ppg on 50% shooting and 100% effort on defense will make “real fans” of us… :)

by jirohkanzaki on Dec 8, 2009 1:00 PM EST reply actions

DeJuan Blair is a good basketball player. Which is not something we can say about T-Will.

“If you can take it to the basket, you take it to the basket,” Vandeweghe said.

Williams said he is not yet willing to change his style since it is what got him drafted in the first place. He noted that he shot a lot of jumpers last season at Louisville and made a career-best 43% of them.

“This is what I did at college,” said Williams, who is shooting 34% overall. “I feel like what I did in college got me drafted.”

What got you drafted was for your defense and versatility, not your CAREER-BEST 43% shooting in COLLEGE! Where did he get that? His shooting was a CONCERN for the teams drafting!

by jirohkanzaki on Dec 8, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions

Fake fans? We’re NETS fans and BASKETBALL fans first and foremost.

Don’t come in here, throw up a hundred bricks, drop 1 good dunk, a couple limp-wristed dance moves after the teams first win and act like you’re bigger than this team. How dare you. Your attitude is an insult to the hundreds of classy individuals that have played the game before you and have fought so hard to get this league to where it’s at today. Show a little GD respect, son.

You should have stayed in Louisville for another 4 years.

by Dirt on Dec 8, 2009 1:12 PM EST reply actions

The difference between CDR calling the team soft and what T-Will did yesterday is that CDR was telling the truth and was trying to use it as motivation, and T-Will was being disrespectful to the team and the fans who cheer him on. He lost me with that stunt because I always root for T-Will but he came off as a complete moron

TWill is the second coming of Antoine Wright, another over rated “versatile defender” brick layer, only this time he’s cocky too.

by johnny on Dec 8, 2009 1:48 PM EST reply actions

What is this, pick on the rookie day? Can I pile on, too? Nets fans are harsh! I thought misery loved company. TWill is miserable, just like the rest of us.

by John at the Jersey Shore on Dec 8, 2009 2:08 PM EST reply actions

So this is our BPA (best player available) lottery pick. Another reason why that strategy stinks. I wonder if an IQ test is part of the interview process.

by Mr. Big on Dec 8, 2009 2:43 PM EST reply actions

I think one of T-Will’s biggest problems is that he seems to shoot from his feet. When he takes a shot he bends way down and then comes up, maybe Kiki can show him actual shooting form. I dont think he shouldve been twittering(tweeting, whatever) the things he was, esp about the bucks because had he been selected instead of Jennings they’d be 0-19, but i’m not down on him yet. I’d bet it has more to do with the frustration of so much losing more than anything else. With his skill set, he’ll be fine in the NBA as long as he works hard.

@Mr. Big

The test they use is who knows the most Jay-Z songs by heart….

Who is the last great shooter the Nets drafted? Have they ever drafted a great shooter? Will we ever draft a great shooter?

Please shoot me!!!

by Mike on Dec 8, 2009 3:16 PM EST reply actions

@ Kris M and Mr. Big – Have you ever been inside the Nets’ draft room?

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 8, 2009 3:23 PM EST reply actions

We drafted Ryan Anderson… he was a pretty good shooter at the beginning of the year. He was leading the league in 3pt %.

by LetsGoNets on Dec 8, 2009 3:32 PM EST reply actions

I guess this is why teams dont expect much from rookies. If he smart or if he pays close attention to his buddy across the river, he will straighten up.

by SIC on Dec 8, 2009 3:42 PM EST reply actions

Him and his little buddy across the river need to go to freaking Europe.

by Dirt on Dec 8, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions

It doesn’t matter what he says or tweets, what matters is how he plays; Stating the obvious (to everybody except Twill ) he needs to take it to the rack, however as he is rookie he gets some slack. Even Swat never said anything like this when he was getting tossed from Dleague and tossing computers. Please don’t mention Antoine and Twill in same sentence, that just brings back horrible memories.

by netsnuts on Dec 8, 2009 3:58 PM EST reply actions

@Mike Says:

Watch Syracuse play and look at W.Johnson/SF a junior.
If he comes out the NETS should draft him with one of their first round picks.
He is already a great shooter and better then anybody on current Nets team.
He would be agreat fit with J.Hayes at the three for next year.

GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS! GO BROOKLYN NETS!

by Dziedzic on Dec 8, 2009 4:24 PM EST reply actions

@Dziedzic;
I hope he is not taller then 6’5" or the Nets won’t draft him. Maybe he can kneel down a little bit when they go measure him.
